HELP! ran out of petrol. wont start again!!
if you just have the mechanical pump, you may need to continue cranking over to get the pump to actually pull fuel from the tank. Ive gotten stuck a couple times and had to crank over a long while before actually getting fuel.

n42 headgasket on f54 block
at idle its in the middle... its a smige over what i normally had on the p79 head... this sucks because its the same bull that i experienced a couple months back. I even had the head reconditioned to make sure the casting of the head was okay...

n42 headgasket on f54 block
Hey guys, i just put on my n42 head on my f54 block and im a lil worried that im not getting oil to the valvetrain. This happened to me before back in march when i installed this head. Since then i had the head checked out and repaired. Now i have installed one of the older type head gaskets 77-78... i didnt see any significant differences between this and the newer ones (F54 81-83). My head has both internal and external oiling, but when i started the car (without valvecover) i could not see oil flaring up like i would with my p79 head. To those who are running bother oiling systems, at idle are you getting any visible oil when running at idle?

Civic beats a 350Z?
i can believe it... i own an 02 civic si and have driven a CTR as well, they are pretty quick. civic = close to 180-190 whp 2750 lbs chassis 350z = about 240 whp 3400 lbs chassis

Sputtering Problems on Top End
i just recently replaced my 280zx distributor with the e12-80 module for a remanufactured unit. I still have my e12-80 but im running the new distributor with the module it came with. Now, ever since i reinstalled the new dizzy, i have been having problems similar to a revlimiter. It wont rev past 4.5-5K... i have already replaced the distributor cap, rotor, wires, and plugs and am still geting the same results. Static timing is at 18 degrees and 35 degrees total timing. My question is, is the new module on my new dizzy a remanufactured e12-80? Would something like this cause my sputter on top end?

Dyno Base Runs @JDMC
Hey guys, i took my Z over to JDM concepts here in Oside. Gabe and Omar hooked it up big time for me, especially with whats to come ....Well this is basically a stock 280zx motor in a 240z. My other motor is in the works and so this is my Daily driver motor for now . -1972 Datsun 240z -280zx 2.8L OHC "stock" -34 total degrees timing after 2500 -MSA Header 6-1, Fidanza Aluminum flywheel, Spec stage 2 clutch, SU carbs "stock", R200 4:11 126hp @ 4800 153tq @ 3700 I plan to use one of my spare cams to get a regrind for this stock head to mirror off my power band. A .460 lift / 270/280 cam should move my powerband a bit higher and make it more useful. I do realize this is an "okay " cam, i plan to use my ISKY cam on my N42 head or sell it and have a .515/300 cam ground.

gas mileage way down
i get about the same mileage on stop and go driving. Freeway driving i get slightly better mileage, but i believe i could definitely do better. Perhaps my heavy foot has a small part in my mileage as well...:sleepy:

Nerves about timing chain
i took a screwdriver and wrapped it with ducktape to the point where its nice and snug. It worked out great and will continue with this technique.

N42 head Converted P79 towers
Hey guys, recently my N42 cam and camtowers took a dump. The cam is now trashed, same with the cam towers. I have a spare P79 head lying around and i plan on installing the rockers, cam, and camtowers onto the N42 head. My question is, will the stock (F) cam from the P79 create a problem with running the N42 head on an F54 block? I heard that with this high compression setup (10.5:1) i should use a performance cam to relieve cylinder pressure and prevent pinging. Would i be okay if i used the stock cam and retard the timing?

L28ET head gasket problem?

Ignition Nightmare
it is carburated...and the idle screw is backed off... im thinking it must be a fairly large leak somewhere because it shoots up dramatically... like up to 6K dramatic... luckily i was able to turn the key off in time.

Ignition Nightmare
alright i figured out my ignition problems....but now its something else. When setting my distributor, my carbs backfire...but when i advance it the engine raises in RPM but drastically... i find myself retarding it in fear or over revving the motor. This is getting rediculous and very tedious. Some ppl tell me it could be my cam timing but that still wouldnt explain the overreving. Also when it is overreving, i am not getting any backfiring problems.

Ignition Nightmare
Alright, i have the How to Rebuild your Nissan/Datsun book and im following the directions it says to properly time your oilpump/distributor. Well anyway, when i have the engine at TDC and the oil shaft at 11:25 with the offset on the face of the motor... the actual distributor arm is facing the wrong direction. Instead of facing the number one point on the distributor, its just past the #6 point going towards 2. Is there something that i may have messed up? I even tried lining the shaft so that when the engine is TDC the distributor is facing the number 1 point.
