Welcome, be sure to post some pics of your Z!

New with 71 240z
Wow! That is some incredible bodywork you've done there! Here in the US, it would have been swap out the fender, door and hood with replacements as those look to far gone for the skill level (and cost factor) of bodyshops here. Looks like your front turn signal is cracked on the inside edge -- have to get you a new one! Great work!

new to z's from Kansas
Welcome! Parting out your rusted ZX to fund goodies for you 280Z is a good plan!

Finally hit 65k, you?
My '73 has 58K now, and is documented, and my '72 has 53K, however the documentation for the car was lost while it was sitting at Nissan's warehouse for 10 years when it was supposed to be part of the Vintage Z Program, so the miles may be correct.

Who Has the Most Miles?
Sorry, misstyped the miles for the 240Z, its 16000, the Black Pearl has 500 or so miles (Still has the window stickers, etc) and the 82ZX Turbo has 1400 now.

Who Has the Most Miles?
My 72 has 53K miles, and my 73 has 58K miles (I could tell you exact, but I am not at home to go look at them), so I guess I can't win for most miles. :classic: As for lowest miles I am aware of, a guy here in town with the nicest collection of Z's I have ever seen as a 240Z with something like 1500 miles, a Black Pearl with around the same, and a 82ZX Turbo with 1300 or so original, documented miles IIRC.

Nice looking 71' on Ebay
Looks like it's got some kind of twist in it that makes the front passenger side sit lower than the rest of the car. Seems to look level from the back at at the roofline, but sits low on the passenger side when looking at the front.

I'm getting the "Itch" LOL
It's too cold and rainy to drive my Z today, but tomorrow and/or Monday looks like it will be fine :classic:

I baught the car from a real IPO! Idoiot Previous Owner!
Interesting... over in classic British car forums we call them DPO's (either dipsh*t PO's or dumbarse PO's -- your choice) instead of IPO's :classic:

Finally taking time to introduce my Z - long story
IIRC, Moss has a nice conversion kit to convert from rubber to chrome bumpers. A set of chrome bumper car springs and you're all set! Of course, the Sebring kit also looks very nice! You can always keep the B for your kids or let the wife drive it, that way they won't be bugging you to drive the Z :classic:

Zinc
I am considering getting a new British Motor Heritage body shell for my MGB, and they use a zinc coating on their galvannealed steel to reduce rust: "Galvannealed steel is coated with zinc on both sides by a continuous hot-dip process. Immediately as the steel exits the coating bath, the molten zinc is subjected to an in-line heat treatment that converts the entire coating to a zinc-iron alloy. (Iron actually diffuses from the steel into the coating.) The surface typically has a matte finish that's very different from the dappled metallic appearance of a galvanized coating. At times, galvannealed coatings may appear similar to uncoated cold rolled steel. The zinc coating dramatically reduces rust in two ways: not only does it provide an additional barrier layer on the steel surface, but the zinc also functions as a sacrificial protector against galvanic corrosion. In other words, even if the zinc coating is scratched and salt water contacts the steel, the nearby zinc will tend to corrode instead of the steel. Galvannealed steel differs from galvanized steel in that the coating is thinner, harder, smoother and more even in appearance, more scratch and scuff resistant, and far preferable in terms of paint adhesion. Still, the galvannealed coating isn't a perfect solution. For one thing, the zinc coating is typically burned off around welds, the zinc coating doesn't cover die-cut panel edges, and it is subject to damage in press operations and part handling." Interesting stuff, now if we can just figure out how to use Zinc to stop our Z's from rusting...

Me and my 73 Z
Welcome to the forum -- unfortunately we're going to have to ask you to leave as we already have our quota of "Mikes" -- just kidding!! Good luck with the project, sounds like you're making good progress. I would highly recommend getting the battery tie down ASAP, you don't want that thing flying around in your engine bay. You should be able to get it from your Nissan dealer parts department, as I believe it is still available without a problem. Cost is around $10 ~ $20 IIRC. Welcome aboard!

Doug, Neat story, congrats on getting her back! You're right, some things are just meant to be! What year is your B?

Computer Rookie having fun with cars
Randy, Should be the same place, I haven't seen any flyers or web updates to confirm the place and date, but will let you know when I find out. Need more photos of the other cars! You have quite the collection going there, I have to get another car (and more space!) to catch up to you! I've got dibs on a '67 Mustang, all orignal except for tires, battery and exhaust, 58K original, documented old lady car (shockingly they do exist) -- if it turns out as good as advertised, I'll pick it up in the spring when the weather clears where it is located :classic:

I've been in an accident!
Darbji, Sorry to hear about your accident, hope you're feeling better soon!

Series I Steering Wheel Going for Record Price!
The difference between this wheel and the "new" one is night and day. After a good restoration this one may look almost as good, but it can never be original like the other one. If the starting price was not so high, I would have bid on the new one as well!

Randy, Nice 'rumphy -- where are your bumper overriders at? :classic: You going to make it to British Car Day in Rome this year? Also, didn't see any Z's there yet, otherwise it looks nice, and not too many ads either!

New guy saying Hello (79' Fairlady RH Drive)
Chad -- maybe the shop you work at will let you park the car there -- very handy if you are going to do the work on it there yourself.

Who has 14x7 Applance slots or Konig Rewinds on a 240Z?
Arne, I am pretty sure Mike W runs these wheels on his Z, I don't recall him having any problems with them and IIRC his car is lowered a little -- If I talk to him I'll ask him to check this thread and chime in! Cheers! Doug

Renewed Z Car Owner
Chris, Welcome to the site! Sounds like a great find. Lots of good info here, and if you can't find it in the archives, someone will usually be sure to have the answer. Looks like you and another board member, Randy (mally002), are in the same town! Be sure to post some pics of your new Z, we all love Z pics here! :classic:

This one is sure going to need some body work-Ebay
Its a shame the car is so far gone, it's about an hour North of me. Doesn't look like there are too may useable parts left -- I see she turned down $400, IMHO, she should have jumped all over it!

Just a quick "Hello"
Dave, Gary may have some more observations, but I can get started for you: yes, that car has definately been repainted (probably not too long ago). Someone stuck some ZX hood vents on it as well. Hard to tell the condition of the car from the photos - cars always look nice with some wax and lots of florescent lights! Definately need photos of the engine bay, hatch area, battery tray (and other rust prone areas) and better interior photos. Car looks to have a half dash cap. Seats appear to have been recovered, as there are no vent holes. Looks like the console is cracked by the choke area and there is a strange switch there as well. Looks like some rust on the rear finishing panel where the license plate goes, so likely there may be more hidden rust issues as well. That being said, all these things are not really major issues if the car is solid. Definately have someone go check this car out for rust issues, etc before parting with any $$$!

Does anyone use 'classic car auto insurance'?
Haggerty does not have a mileage limitation. I was concerned about this before I switched, and had a long chat with them about my intended use of my cars. As long as you have a "daily driver" with regular insurance, you can drive your car whenever you like for "pleasure". This includes driving it to work on occasion when its a really nice day, or you are going to a club meeting afterwards. In other words, you're driving it because you WANT to, not because you HAVE to. My suggestion is to call and talk to whatever classic car insurance company you are considering, and talking to them in detail about your intended use. Most should be fine with unlimited pleasure driving, as long as you have a regular daily driver with regular insurance.

Do you think your car had Led Zeppilin played in it?
According to the documents, a lady was the original owner of my '73, and sold it in 1996 when she couldn't drive a stick anymore. But, I figure, if she was cool enough to buy a 240Z, she would have been cool enough to have listen to Zep in the car :classic:
