  1. Woohoo! Congrats on your new wheels Jeff! Looking forward to seeing some photos posted when you get them on the car.
  2. It looks like your at the "point of no return", in that if you keep going you will have to spend whatever it takes to finish the car. To me, the answer of whether to keep going or dump it depends on what you are looking to do with the car long term. Are you looking to make $$$ on it (it's very rare to make any $$$ on a proper restoration), or do you want a factory original car to keep for a really long time? Or is there some other objective such as building a car that suits your individual tastes? If you want to stay orginal, you could, as suggested above, find another chassis in better shape for less than the cost of all the metal/welding work (unless your doing it yourself) that might allow you to finish the project off for less $$$. My vote would be to keep it orignal if your going to continue the project, as the car will retain more value that way in the long run. I think it is much easier to find a buyer for an orignal car than for a modified (changes to the body, etc) one, and the orignal one will also sell for more $$$. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!
  3. That looks like a pretty good price, when I was pricing them a few months ago, I was getting prices in the $1200 range for a set of 4! Better get them now Jeff!

I've been to this guys shop last year to look at an MGB he has had listed for sale for at least 6 years (if not longer). About every 6 months or so he lists the MGB on eBay now with a $30K reserve in order to advertise his shop, and appears to be doing the same with this 240Z. He seems to prefer the "I want it now and don't really care what it costs" crowd based on the prices he is asking for his cars, and lack of negotiation on same. But hey, if he can get someone to pay $30K for a car thats worth $12 to 15K, good for him! :stupid: I would be surprised to see this one actually hit the reserve on eBay.

I just completed my annual insurance review with my State Farm Agent, and found out some interesting info. For State Farm at least, they will pay up to your "agreed value" based on supporting documentation (like Arne describes) for any car 1969 or older. Cars 1970 and newer they don't do any type of "agreed value" policy, just "standard insurance" where you have to work very hard to prove the value of your car. My agent said that an appraisal would be helpful in making your case, but there is no guarantee for how much you will get. My agent also said she was going to look for other options to ensure my Z is covered for the value I have placed on it. I will let everyone know what I hear back!

The 2002 certianly has its following, as does the Z. It just depends on what your looking for in your car.:classic: To me, its about the overall combination of style, performance and handling. I have 3 different cars (240Z, MGB and Audi A4) that are all great at what they are intended for. My Audi A4 Quattro probably handles the best, and as has the best overall performance of the Z (and its 28 years newer than my Z, 35 years newer than my MGB), but I seem to drive it the least of all 3. I also find that the more I drive my Z, the more it becomes my favorite of the 3, to the point that I drive it almost every day! As suggested, drive the Z and then decide for yourself! :cheeky:
  10. If your clearcoat finish is rough, you might want to try hitting it again with more clearcoat. To get the smoothest finish, you should lay the clearcoat on pretty wet so it has a chance to self-level.

Another thing to note if your interested in fuel costs, is that at least with my 240Z, you need to run the high octane (93 around here) in the car for the best performance. Not sure about the ZX models.

I drive my 240Z as a daily driver (along with 2 other cars), mainly because its very enjoyable to drive. I only advice would be to buy the best Z-car you can afford.

of course, there is the standard question for something like this -- WHY!?
  22. Based on the license plate, I would say that it someone in the UK may be able to help locate the source of this thing FWIW, IIRC, the "T" in the last position means the car was first registered in 1979, making it most likely a 280Z that this air dam is fitted to.
