Anyone in Sacramento, CA have a Z in good condition?
This one on eBay may be a good one to show the insurance company: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4618181675&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

My NEW 15" Slotted Wheels
Hey! I have the same wheels (lots of pics in my gallery) :-) As far as I know, they only come in the 7" wide variety.

Original Key Blanks
Well, experience has shown that just because someone put it in a manual, code or service bulletin (in this case) doesn't mean that variations did not occur. And since several people with '73 Z's have two keys as described above, reality in this case carries more weight than print. I think there may also be some confusion on what a 'reversable key' is. Both of my keys can be put into the lock either way - so perhaps that is what 'reversable key' meant? Is so, since both my ignition key and door keys are 'reversable', the service bulletin is satisfied. Perhaps there was a special requirement for certain states (not sure if any of the other members cars that have two keys are Cali cars like mine?) that they have separate keys for the ingition and doors at the time? Maybe someone at Nissan bought too many sets of locks and they had to use them up before switching over to 1 key for everything? Maybe the lock maker made too many and offered Nissan a deal they couldn't refuse to buy up the rest of them and use them at some point after the intial switch over? In any business stranger things do indeed happen...

They are the same ones that MSA sells, however, I got them at the local tire shop for a lot less $$$. They are American Racing Sprint/AE wheels :-)

Grant Mahogany Steering Wheel
Very nice, really compliments the brown interior. Looks a lot like a Nardi. I have a spare one from my MGB I am considering putting in my Z if I can find an inexpensive adapter and center piece :-)

This Forum
I took Fun's post to mean he wanted to see more female Z-car enthusiasts to balance out the large percentage of males here. Kinda like when you walk into a popular bar and see 4000 guys and 3 women and think - 'I'm outta here - this place is a sausage fest' ;-) I didn't see his post as stating we needed more pictures of women and less of men?

Likely selling my '72 240 - Need advice
I just reread everything, and wondering where the suggestion of a respray came in? It seems we all agree that spending a little cash on getting the car "cleaned up" - whatever can be done easily -- like putting the carpet back in, getting the car buffed out and polished by a professional, etc. is worthwhile to get a better price for the car :-)

Likely selling my '72 240 - Need advice
I disagree about installing the carpet being of no value. My experience has been that the people who are willing to pay the most $$$ want a car they can get in and drive, then maybe do a few tweeks to it later on. People who are looking for a car to do a total rebuild on pay the least $$$, as they have a lot of cost coming up after the purchase to have it redone. So, if you put the carpet (new or original) back in so it looks good, then you'll still be able to appeal to those that are willing to pay more for a car they can drive as is.

Likely selling my '72 240 - Need advice
Even though your thoughts now have turned to selling the car and how much you can get for it, I would receommend that you consider spending a few bucks on the car to increase what you can get for it. Think of it like an investment :-) I would agree that you should either work on cleaning up the paint yourself, or take it to a professional to have it done. They can do amazing things to old paint these days. Even if it costs your a couple of hundred dollars, polishing up the paint and eliminating some/all of the fading will likely add a thousand or two to what you can get for the car. You may also want to have the carpet put back in (or put in the new carpet) before you sell as well as that will likely also increase what you can get for the car. You may want to try some SeaFoam to get the gunk out of your fuel system. You might want to list it in Hemmings Motor News (www.hemmings.com) as well, since they claim to be the "spot" for serious car collectors/buyers.

colours, colours, colours!
I would avoid thde graphic color for safety reasons. I had a charcoal grey car once and it got hit 5 times in one year. A friend of mine still has a charcoal grey car and it continues to get hit as well. I guess the color of the car seems to blend in with the pavement and buildings and people with their heads up their posteriors don't see it until it's too late and then they run into you. When asked, everyone who hit me claimed they did not see the car until it was too late. Now my bright silver Audi has not had the same issue, so I will have to assume its just the dark grey color that has the issue :-)

Mine seems to have the original items for a 240 mfg 10/72 -- I have a jack, two orange tire blocks, and a black toolkit with the lug wrench and the two red bars things needed to operate the jack inside it.

Need expertise of the Z vets!
Another interesting thing to note -- the latest issue of Hemming's Sports and Exotic cars lists the 240Z as one of 10 Japanese cars that they think are still a great bargin, and will most likely go up in price in the future. So buy it now before they get too expensive :-)
