In 1985 as a high school graduation gift, my dad was going to buy me my first car. He mentioned that a guy was selling his Datsun 240Z and was bringing it to our house so we could test drive it. I had no idea what a 240Z was, and for whatever reason, when I heard "Datsun" I just cringed as I thought of some car that would be a complete embarrassment. I had made up my mind that I would shoot this Datsun car idea down before even seeing it. When my dad called out to me that the guy just drove up the driveway, I peaked out the window expecting the gag reflex, and instead....I was blown away! As we were going to the door to meet the previous owner, I knew before I even drove the car that I now wanted it more than anything. Then when I drove it....pure love. I no longer have that Z, but I love my "new" 240Z just as much. I am still all grins behind the wheel.
  4. Awesome looking Z!
  5. The Z is a companion; other cars are appliances. Nothing like glancing back at the Z after a fun run and it seems like car and driver are both grinning.
  6. I bought mine in 2003 for $5,000. It is 99% rust free and has been very dependable. As for what is too much money for a Z car, that depends on what you feel it is worth - shop around, you will get a ballpark figure for the price/condition you can afford.
  7. New

    Beautiful car - enjoy!

Second the MT90 - it helped mine shift smoother.
  9. I don't think you can remove an old one without removing the dashboard. My glove box was originally in rough shape, so I just ripped it out and replaced it with a new one. The new one had to be bent slightly and coerced back in there, but it eventually went in and looks great.
  10. I know the history behind using the Datsun nameplate, and you are right - it won't happen because we are not in charge! Yes, few people identify with the Datsun name now in relation, but no one knew of "Scion" before 2003. BMW and others are producing parts for their older vehicles, I agree, Nissan needs to support their older cars and their history. It is a shame really.
  11. I think Nissan could bring back the true essence of the Z and the "Datsun" nameplate. Toyota has the Scion brand to offer an entry level product, Nissan could bring back the Datsun nameplate for its lower price product offering and use this brand to bring back a simplier, exciting sports car with true Zness. The advantage of the Datsun nameplate is that it would be a instantly recognizable brand (For those who can remember pre-1984)with a large base of customers rather than trying to get a new named brand successful.
  12. The z1 reminds me more of first gen rx7 than a Z. I also agree that Carl's recommendation would be a major hit, but I don't think it will ever happen.

Prices for very good condition 240Z's is going up. Prices for low VIN's are going up. Prices for crap, staying about the same, IMO

That price range is a little low for a car that will be a good daily driver. Most $2,500 240Z's have a nice amount of rust and other issues.
  15. The seller revised his message, before he was calling all Z owners cheap and we were keeping the prices down on the 240Z. The revised post is now less hostile.
  16. Hi Guys, Checking eBay for "deals" and came across this seller - made me laugh:laugh: Ebay Listing
  17. Hi Mat, I just cleaned it up with formula 2000, so it is very shiny! So, the 240Z has three different types of covers?
  18. Does anyone know what model Z this steering column belongs to? Thanks,
  19. Hi guys -appreciate the info and link.
  20. Does anyone have pictures showing the difference between the 70-72 steering column covers and the '73 steering column cover? I am just curious as to how they compare. Thanks!

No problem, glad you found a battery. I have switched to the Optima red top battery since I autox the car and I didn't want to have to worry about acid spilling out and rusting out the battery tray/fender with my crazy driving : )

Mike, it was nice meeting you at the event! Nice photos, but I think you are definitely missing one - I thought for sure you would have caught a picture of the model working the Vertical Door booth!! It was a great show, awesome cars and nice Z'ers.

I got mine last year at Steeringstore.com - can't remember the price, but nowhere near the prices listed above. The rack was a remanufactured - I have been happy with it.
