Classic Motorsports "top 10" Japanese Race Cars of all time!
R30 Super Silhouette in the states AND running? Gosh I think I would just fall over backwards from the sight... It was already pretty special to have the Mazda techs fire up and warm up one of the 787B at Laguna Seca Historics a couple years ago, but when later in the day Paul Frere took it out on the track for some demo laps... aaaahhhh And then last year Toyota brought an old IMSA Celica, next to a couple year old JGTC Castrol Supra, and the '99 TS020 #3 car that should have won the race was it not for a flat tire. They brought them but they didn't run them. Still though any chance to marvel at the TS020 is a great day as far as I'm concerned... Unless there's really no "car guys" or "car gals" at the head of Nissan I also don't understand what's taking them so long to get on the Historic bandwagon outside of Japan. How could a manufacturer NOT want to participate in the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Revival, or Monterey Historics if they were only going to do one event outside of their home country... Go figure... Someone copy this link and forward it to your friends that work at Nissan and let it hopefully go up the corporate chain to someone who cares too. Heck, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I heard a rumour that Honda was going to drag some of its historic racing cars out to its own booth for Monterey Historics '06... That would be pretty sweet as well. -e -e

Copper/Brass vs Aluminum rad
Impressive... While we're on the topic I thought I'd ask you all something else, we discussed about how black is established as the best colour to get rid of heat, etc... How come I've never seen anyone take an Aluminum radiator and before first use have it anodized black??? What do you all think about that? -e

skyline on ebay!!
I got a hold of the Japanese company that Brian went through for his KGC10 and they were very helpful and eager to help providing both details about their services, expected prices, and turnaround time. I was most impressed by the speed of their reply. I'll post their details tomorrow from work. -e

Copper/Brass vs Aluminum rad
jmortensen you tore up 2 radiators just with chassis flex??? geez wow... that's crazy... I never would have suspected that was even possible... Curtis240Z thanks for the arizonazcar website - I had forgot to check them and am impressed with their price - much lower than MSA... Good tip! -e

Copper/Brass vs Aluminum rad
Thanks for the quick reply guys... Given the choice I'd rather stay with a stock looking CuBr rad... The "bling-bling" look of an Al rad in the Z's otherwise period correct engine bay would I think over time kind of irk me... Then again if every website I visited said Al was hands-down better than CuBr I wouldn't think about it... Check out this one for example: http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2001/10/radiator/index.shtml Thanks for your $0.02 Alfadog... I don't THINK my Z needs special cooling needs however if going 4core over 3core is going to make a noticeable difference I'd rather get the larger radiator and never have to worry about it again... know what i mean? -e

Copper/Brass vs Aluminum rad
Hey all... So I was researching online the cooling differences between Copper/Brass and Aluminum radiators and it seemed that every other website contradicted the previous one... So I thought I'd ask you all to see if someone had done some conclusive research... I'm thinking about replacing what I believe to be my original 240 radiator with a 280 3core copper/brass unit. For starters is the stock 240 radiator a 2 core or not? And will a larger ZX rad not fit the S30, right? With that said I see huge price differences between Al and CuBr. on eBay a 75-8 3core will set you back $140+$15shipping from OK. MSA wants $199 for 1970-1974.5, $195 for 1975-1983 for OE replacement Radiator.com wants $220 delivered for a 3core MSA wants $275 for 1970-1983 4core radiators The closest universal fit Al rad from Summit is 26" wide and 19" tall so I don't think it will fit the S30. Still though it costs only $330 The closest factory fit is for the Acura Integra (24.430" wide & I think ours are 24.5" wide) and made by Fluidyne and costs $370 MSA wants $460 for a 1970-1978 Aluminum radiator - ouch! So what do you all think, any suggestions? I'd love to hear 'em... Thanks, -e

skyline on ebay!!
I wouldn't be surprised if the rumour you heard is true David... After all how many people do you know that are going to pay $96000 and change for a brand new car that retails for $50000 in another country. When the R34 was new and still for sale in japan it had a sticker price of approx 5600000yen, at the same time when Motorex finally finished their certification process I remember they were initially charging over $90K for a brand new R34... For the price of a new R34 they would sell you a used R32... I understand it couldn't have been cheap to take on DOT and EPA to get the certification but still.... that's a whole lot of money. Might as well get a used exotic for that kind of money, no? -e

Hood spring/pin length?

Hood spring/pin length?
I checked both the FSM and my Haynes... neither gave a good basic dimension to set the hood spring/pin at such that the hood shuts nicely when you close it... I spent 45min adjusting it in and then back out again with no improvements whatsoever... Can someone who's hood does close nicely give me that basic dimension? At least then I will know if I am way off or what... Thanks, -e

Z or ZX struts? Opinions please...
So I am finally just about ready to drop some $$$ on replacing what could very well be the original 33yr old struts in my 240... to tell you they are beat doesn't quite capture the sorry state they're in... hahaha I'vve hunted around on Japanese sites and seen that with respect to front brake upgrades some people are changing their strut casings out for the larger diameter ZX units... If I am going to get new struts and am thinking there's a possibility I may do a brake upgrade as well in the future which would warrant this I figure I should get the right struts now... How do you all feel about this? I've had great results with Konis in the past and at just under $300 a pair I may very well go that route again this time around... I've got an email to Ground Control right now that I'm waiting for a reply on. Jay and I came up with a fantastic setup on my last car - granted it was almost exclusively a track car which the Z isn't but their advice was priceless... We'll see what their $0.02 amount to as well... Thanks. -e

Best Motoring Vol.56?? where is it?
Dave You're up in the SF Bay area right??? Call Kinokuniya Bookstore in SF's Japantown... they can special order it for you. I think it is available in both VHS and DVD... However the DVD is going to be region encoded for Japan so as long as you will be playing this on your PC DVD-ROM drive you will be ok... If you have a US DVD player (Zone1) you may not be able to play it... It retails for like 2000yen which comes out to $15-17 but expect to pay twice that at the Japanese Bookstore... They basically double the Japanese prices to make a profit and pay for the shipping from Japan... -e

nismo 2 way LSD R180
I got the pics from the seller and it looks like it's the "short" R180 which according to my research will not fit our Zs without a lot of modifications... I guess you could try to take out the LSD and the axles and plug those into a normal "long" R180... but then you couldn't use the ring and pinion it comes with because the pinion would be too short for the longer housing... So then you'd have to find an R180 ring and pinion for a long R180 which would have the right diameter holes in the ring in order to bolt up to this LSD... Am I right or am I wrong? -e

So a friend visited the Kinokuniya Bookstore in San Francisco's Japantown over Thanksgiving weekend, spotted this mag and was nice enough to grab an extra copy for me. ARP flywheel/clutch bolts?....
Hi all, I was just looking through the online ARP catalog and found that they don't carry Datsun specific bolts for flywheel and pressure plate. They do however have a selection of these bolts for both Honda and Toyota metric applications. So does someone happen to know if our flywheel bolts are M10x1.0 or M12x1.25? Same question for the pressure plate. Thanks, -e

KNM I almost bought...
A couple years ago a 73 KNM came up for sale locally. I've told you all about it before and the short of it is the guy wouldn't sell it to me for whatever reason or price... Well after being in limbo for a while it went to another kid here in LA The car's been dormant/worked on for a while and I've only just gotten new pics of it... Website is here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/737777 But the new engine pic is attached... Not my cup of tea but still looks pretty crazy... -e
