Nostalgic Hero 115
I agree with Miles a subscription (if you are into more than just Zs and Skylines - the scope of the magazine can be far-reaching) might be worth it... The S30 book is basically a compilation of all the great Zs they've done photo shoots on from about '88 to '04. There's 12 Z432s, 6 ZGs, several classic race cars and several tuner cars, even a 2by2! Because it is a compilation I now have some overlap with some of the issues certain Zs first appeared in... so I am going to sell a couple of those copies shortly. More details (and scans) when I return. I land at LAX on Sunday. -e

Get NOS 107 as well - several replica Hakosuka racecars are featured... Get NOS S30FairladySpecial Issue (Geibun Mooks #471) - one fantastic Z after another Also got a neat 60min DVD featuring race footage from the following special events: 1969.May 3 JAF Grand Prix 1969 Oct 10 Japan Grand Prix 1970 May 3 JAF Grand Prix 1971 May 3 Japan Grand Prix 1971 Oct 10 Fuji Masters 250km and more... Found all three at Lindbergh bookstore at SuperAutobacs in Shinonome. I also recommend you get the following stand out issue (got it at Kinokuniya, but did see it at Lindbergh too): Skyline 2000 GT-R Memorial (1969-1973) PGC10 KPGC10 KPGC110 ISBN4-86144-026-2 It's pretty much JUST period racing pics and articles from that time period... More period photos I've seen of the race Hakosukas than I've come across anywhere else... I'll scan stuff when I get home on Sunday. -e

Right Hand Drive Z???
i read somewhere that the DOT cracked down on him because somebody over there apparently realised that R32, R33, and R34 Skylines were altogether different cars not versions of the same chassis as he apparently alleged... He had supposedly done all the DOT/EPA conversion for one model car and was selling the other models under the same one rather than also doing the whole conversion for both of the other models... something like that... i'm sure that by selling at $90K a brand new car which in Japan retailed for $50K someone out there must have thought they were getting taken advantage of and called in the authorities or whatever... i'm surprised the loophole was open for as long as it was and that now everyonce in a while you do see a car around LA... -e

Triple Carb Manifold Short or Long??
you know i'm not quite sure... i just landed in tokyo last night and am still all out of sorts... hmmm either i have a TWM or a Mikuni manifold - I honestly don't remember right now... sorry... -e

Triple Carb Manifold Short or Long??
hmmmm very interesting indeed... i also went to bigger pilots to cure a cough/spit problem i had when i accelerated just so... actually was jon's advice i followed... sure i did notice my MPG take a small hit and it runs pretty fat at idle but hey can't win all the battles right? my venturis are still the stock size my 44s came with - never changed them... all of this is very interesting... Brandon thanks for sharing your impressions... -e

Triple Carb Manifold Short or Long??
that's a great end-on pic Alan... really highlights the angle difference... jmortensen, if you mill the manifold to ease out that angle, then your carbs on the end of manifold are themselves even more tilted from an end-on view... I don't remember what the How To book said about those but doesn't that interfere to a certain extent with the way the float works inside the carbs??? or is it impervious to being tilted like that? -e

Triple Carb Manifold Short or Long??
I remember talking about something related with Alan a while back when I was comparing just how short the S20 manifolds were (crossflow head of course) in comparison with our regular cylinder heads... In some of the period pics the camera angle of the pics is such that you could almost believe the carbs are bolted straight to the cylinder head hahahahahaha.... just kidding. -e

Triple Carb Manifold Short or Long??
random related question... if you have a short manifold with long velocity stacks VS a long manifold with short velocity stacks such that the length from cylinder head to tip of velocity stack is the same on both setup... does it make any difference in performance? curious about that one... what do you all think? -e

steering rack source...
24TZMAN The Z's my one and only daily driver... that's part of the issue... When I get David's in the mail I can swap it in to my car while I take mine apart... Have done plenty of things before including engine and tranny rebuilds but never a rack... so I don't know how long it would take me. Besides having a second one around to look at for reference won't hurt I'm sure... Anyways thanks guys, -e

steering rack source...
Hi... I called Nissan and new steering racks are of course NLA. Courtesy Parts did not know who to recommend for a rebuild I called Rebello up in NorCal to see if they could recommend a place. No such luck, they had no idea but wished me good luck... I called Victoria British and they don't expect to have any in stock for at least 6-8 weeks I even called Pepboys and they don't even have a listing for one in their computer database. MSA doesn't carry them any more. I searched on this forum and HybridZ and found several people had poor results with just picking up the phone book and calling joeschmo steering... so can anyone whose recently gone through the same thing recommend a place to get one rebuilt or to buy a rebuilt one from? Thanks, -e

Thousand Oaks or Pasadena Alignement Shop
i knew this was coming one of these days... basically there's no point in aligning it until i rebuild the rack - it's had it... guess i know what i'll be up to over the weekend... -e PS one of the guys at work with a couple old cars himself recommended California Tire off of Ventu on the frontage road along the freeway in Newbury Park... That's where I ended up going.

73 Hazard switch removal
Quick ?: On a 73 240, how does the Hazard knob (the part you pull on to activate the Hazard lights) separate from the rest of the Hazard switch? I've got a switch still attached to the metal support structure and I want to remove it so I can fit a new dash skin over the metal support... The opening in the new skin that corresponds to the Hazard switch is of a smaller diameter than the knob itself of course... ideas? Is it just pushed on? I've pulled a little but it did not budge... pull harder? thanks, -e

Universal City Datsun - Russ Brown
Have any of you had any luck tracking down the original salesman for your car? I'm the third owner of my Z which was originally purchased at Universal City Datsun here in Los Angeles from a salesman by the name of Russ Brown on August 3 1973... I wonder if anyone else on here with their original bill of sale, might have had their car originally come from there and maybe even from that salesman... would be interesting to reunite, no? -e

Weber 45DCOE-9 refurb.
wow the S20 manifold is such a different beast altogether.... The fitting with some corrosion right above your last name and perpendicular to the last carb - is that for coolant to flow to the heater core?
