  1. I think that is the same finish that all of the S30 calipers originally had. I think the cad plating that Eric does is not original and may be 'over restoring' the part. Maybe it adds some kind of additional protection, but I don't think it was done that way originally. -Mike
  2. I think most people use Ron at Zclocks http://www.zclocks.com/. His current pricing is about the same, $149, but the return shipping is included. Ron does great work and restores the entire clock, including the case. He is also the only person I know that can repair the rare Z rally clocks. -Mike
  3. I do have a copy of the CD that I bought from this site, but when you are away from your home computer the online version is nice to have. After I got the CD, I actually made my own PDF file by scanning of one of my original parts catalogs. I normally use that when I'm home, since it is much easier to navigate and I can access it easily over my home network. -Mike
  4. They closed at $4,551, so it looks like my estimate of $4-5K was right on. -Mike
  5. Here is a thread I started for the online parts catalog I use http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?40472. -Mike
  6. Did you look at the pictures linked to in the CL ad Carl? http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a108/Shibbiy/1972%20240z/?start=all Password to Photobucket : datsun The paint code sticker on the radiator support is 115 (blue metalic). The engine bay is painted black, so obviously a color change to a non-stock color (Viper red, per the ad). The interior is non stock (seats, door panels, carpet instead of vinyl). Still think it is worth $15/$16K? -Mike
  7. That sounds a bit hard to believe, but I'm local in the Seattle area if you want someone to look them over for/with you. Send me a PM if interested, otherwise just post pictures here to this site. There is no such thing as a "green rally package" though. -Mike
  8. I'm with Chris, I could see them selling for $4-5K here in the US. The set on yahoo Japan have been listed many times at the 800,000 yen price with no takers, so that is obviously more than people are willing to pay, even in Japan. -Mike
  9. It sucks that the shipping company wrecked your new Z, but I don't get the math of how you are out $10K. According the ad on this site the car sold for $4,500 http://www.datsunclassifieds.com/showproduct.php/product/6728/title/1972-datsun-240z/cat/1. You also said the shipper's insurance won't pay anything over the bill of sale. Wasn't the bill of sale for the sales price of the car? I agree with jfa.series1's comments about agreed upon value insurance (like Hagerty) if you qualify with their use restrictions, but it is not for everyone. -Mike
  10. Did you install the two u-shaped retaining clips on the back side of the wheel cylinder? If so, they may not be installed correctly. The silver colored clip installs with the opening toward the front of the car and has two raised bumps on the back of the clip. The gold colored clip installs from the other direction with the opening towards the rear of the car. It has two small holes that fit over the raised bumps on the silver clip, which locks the cylinder in place. -Mike
  11. Jerry, my 5/72 production car has the one on the left, so I am sure that is the correct one for your car too. -Mike
  12. The real answer to the question depends on which market and S30 model you are referring to. The OP specifically mentioned a JDM ZG (HS30-H) that had one fitted and he was wondering if it was a 'factory original'. I think the answer is it could have been. In Japan it was possible to custom order options, as Alan T noted in this thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?14501. It is also possible it was an OEM part that was added later on, or it could have been an aftermarket version. There was also a question about whether the automatic transmission was 'factory original'. Yes, the automatic was available on the HS30-H. If it was indeed a real ZG (HS30-H) I wouldn't let a vinyl roof or automatic stand in the way of acquiring it, even if I didn't care for them. They are easy enough to remove and ZG's are rare and desirable cars in my opinion. -Mike
  13. Yes, but if it's a S30 it should have an L20a, not a L24, so if the engine in storage is an L20a, that is probably the original engine. It must have varied by state, or maybe it was just California cars that had to add them. Most of the early Fairladys I have seen in the US didn't have the rear reflectors. -Mike
  14. Did you find out if they have the original engine? The ad says they think it has an L28 installed, but may have the original engine in storage. Does it still have the original five speed transmission? What does the dash look like under the cover? -Mike
  15. Just curious, but what makes the BRE paint scheme car a good buy at $18,150? It just looks like an average pretty much stock driver 240Z with BRE theme external repaint? Here is the auction description and photos: Accurately custom restored to simulate a BRE 240Z race car. This is a very quick street car that could easily hit the track for a lapping day. Fresh paint and interior complement the excellent refurbished original drivetrain. Great dependable driver. 16" wheels, custom exhaust, disc brakes and lowered suspension. -Mike
  16. The 'original' 1973 with the sunroof, wrong carbs, and missing emissions equipment? Seems like a good price to me. -Mike

  18. I agree that it most likely what is left of HLS30-00022. I wouldn't make too much of sloppy firewall stamping/engraving. That is pretty common for the early cars at least. Dashes are easily swapped and the one in the car now is from a 72 or 73, so no surprise the VIN tag would be swapped on it. However, it is missing the door data plate, which is a bit more troubling. There are no holes where the plate would mount either, so I assume this is a replacement panel? -Mike
  19. Here is the thread from the last time it was listed, almost exactly 1 yr ago http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?40855-240-22. I thought it had been sold then. I was very surprised it got bid up to over 10K, since it is so rough. After seeing the car in person last year, the seller should have taken the money and run then. -Mike
  20. Why revive this thread after more than a year?
  21. Brubaker, you should have read the thread you copied and pasted the above quote from... it's from this site.. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?33381-repro-window-sticker&p=282385&viewfull=1#post282385. If you read posts #38 and #39 in the thread you will see that Carl was having a senior moment and it was pointed out to him that HLS30-03547 was Wick's car, not the one Bill Regan restored and then sold. -Mike
  22. No Dave, not copied from one of your posts, and yes I have been friends with Brian for about 6 yrs. I used to work with his daughter and he was a prior owner of my low VIN cars. -Mike
  23. They should still be available. A friend of mine had more of these made and is selling them powdercoated and with a bump stop for $60 + $12 S/H on his website http://www.technoversions.com/DiffMountHome.html -Mike
  24. That won't do any good. North American market 260Z's had VINs that started with RLS30. The only Z-car registry that includes 260Z's and 280Z's that I know of is the one in this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?27519-Online-Z-Car-registry. It is an online excel spreadsheet that often gets screwed up, but it looks ok now. There is a registry on zhome.com, but that is only for 240Z's. -Mike
  25. Z Car Customs in Oregon sells them for $145, plus $20 shipping http://www.zccjdm.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/dt81970/pd1277652/HEAT_SHIELD__DRIP_PAN__WEBER_SOLEX_MIKUNI_ -Mike
