  1. I think you are missing a digit. HLS30 72902 would be a 1972 240z. -Mike
  2. That tank has a lot of crud in it, so I would take it to a radiator repair shop and have it boiled out. -Mike
  3. Actually there was a 1980 280Z. In Japan the 280ZX was called the Fairlady 280Z. This one is a 1980 2+2 with no T-tops, but of course they also made the 2 seat version with and without T-tops. -Mike
  4. The E31 head would have come from a 1970 or 71. Are you sure the E41 is the casting on the intake manifold or is it on the balance tube? The 1970-72 have E46 intake manifolds. I'm not sure about a 1973, or later intake manifolds. -Mike
  5. As I recall from the ebay ads, the original engine was seized. Did you get that engine shipped with the car? If so, you should at least try to get it rebuilt, even if you run another engine in the car. Not having the working original engine will definitely decrease the value of the car. -Mike
  6. Some of my favorite lines from his ads: "Doesn't your Datsun restoration deserve the absolute best?" "Increasingly hard-to-find items. Get a spare set while they're still around!" "While you're here, check out my other items for more hard-to-find Datsun/Nissan parts!" "Brand new, factory-fresh. (Nissan packaging, shown in picture, is not included, as these were bulk-packaged.)" "BRAND NEW, factory-fresh, in the Nissan packaging." -Mike
  7. Here is some more info from another thread. Start with post #40 by Les at CDM. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38897&page=2 -Mike
  8. Everything he sells is still available directly from Nissan, so why go through a middle-man and pay an additional mark-up? -Mike
  9. It looks like a Nissan competition steering wheel, so I am not sure if it is really original to the car, or if it was added later. Although in Japan, Z's could be ordered much more customized than anywhere else. The comp wheel does come with a leather covering around the rim. That one probably has a dressing of some kind on it to make it look shiny. Probably not a good idea, as it would make it slippery. -Mike
  10. Actually, the ZG's didn't have chrome bumpers. Here is a link to some pictures of a ZG in Japan. Some items have been modified (interior, mikunis, etc.) but I think the exterior is pretty original looking except for the wheels and tow points http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009/12/14/car-feature-gt-gt-ta-auto-nissan-240zg.aspx The ZG (HS30-H) had the same running gear as regular JDM HS30 models: an L24 with Hitachi SU's, 5-speed transmission and a 3.9 R180 differential. There were no other engine options on a real ZG. Alan T knows a lot more about these cars than I do. Here is a post he made about them http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=38358&postcount=10 I agree that this car almost certainly has replica parts, since real ZG's were only RHD cars sold in Japan. ZG kits could be ordered through Datsun Comp in the US, but they were very expensive and not many people have real parts, but reproductions of various quality are still being made. -Mike
  11. It sounds like neither of you have tried either of the paints I mentioned, so how would you be able to advise on how the finish looks? Many people on this site have used one or both on some pretty nice cars. Do a search and you will find that out. The CDM paint was mixed from NOS parts and has the same texture that the original paint did. Here are some pictures of the rear panel I painted on one of my cars. It may not meet either of your high standards, but it works good for me. Polecat, if that paint is not good enough for you, there is also a formula for this color paint given in the Wick Humble book "How to restore your Z car" or maybe one of these two experts can chime in on what they have used. -Mike
  12. They aren't black, they are a textured grey paint. Classicdatsun.com sells a paint that is a very good match, but Dulicolor Graphite wheel paint is also very good, in my opinion http://www.jegs.com/i/Duplicolor/318/HWP102/10002/-1. -Mike
  13. So Carl are you saying this was a good buy to get $8k in parts for $8k, plus shipping? Seems like a lot of work to buy a car, have it shipped to you, and part it out to only break even. It also seems contrary to what you said in your earlier post. -Mike
  14. If the chrome is pitted, the only fix for that is having them rechromed, which can be pretty expensive, since these are pot metal and require more work than chroming steel. You may be better off just looking for used ones with good chrome, since they aren't that difficult to find. One other tip for people repainting these themselves; I would suggest using a primer coat first. It will stick much better to the chrome than paint will alone. Here is a rear hatch 240Z emblem I repainted. I stripped off all the old paint first, used a grey primer coat and then painted black. -Mike
  15. It sold for $8,101. That tells me that the person that bought it doesn't follow the Z sites like this one or Zcar.com, where he also had the car listed. On Feb 3, he dropped the asking price on the Zcar.com ad to $6,999 OBO, so the buyer could have gotten a better deal by dealing directly with the seller before it was listed on ebay. Based on the pictures he posted, I still think it could be a 10k mile car, but it was definitely hit hard in the front. Both the inner fenders and parts of the firewall are buckled, which you can tell by the flaked off paint. It looks like both of the fenders, valance, and headlight buckets were replaced and the back sides of the panels left in the original grey primer/paint that replacement parts came with. The frame rails look like they have been straightened. It may still be a good driver if the alignment is ok, but to make it factory correct again would be a lot of work and costly. Hopefully the buyer is knowledgeable enough to understand what he bought and is ok with what it is. -Mike
  16. Just guessing here, but I would image it is because you just recently joined this site and two of your first threads have been about hamburgers and another one was about skate boarding. That's fine, but most people prefer to talk about their cars or parts or something related to Datsun's. I don't think anyone here even knew that you designed the logo for next years convention, or cares, so I am not sure why you throw that out there. Is that your "marking position with the ZCCA" you referred to in your other burger thread? -Mike
  17. I realize this is a "open general discussions" thread, but do you really need to start two "best burger" threads on a classic Z car site http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41175? You should just bump up your other thread instead of starting a new one if you are still looking for a better burger. -Mike
  18. You should mention what year/model car you are needing a tank for. They are not all the same. If it is just a leak I am sure you could remove the tank and get it repaired. -Mike
  19. Nice avatar Decoy12. That's what I think of when I see that grommet too. -Mike Didn't realize you had posted about it in another thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=41201. Oh well, it still looks cool.
  20. If I had the room for it I would bring this one home http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/2209658160.html. -Mike
  21. I just found your other thread about your floors http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=41232. You should have just added to that one rather than start a new thread looking for parts. Maybe an Arne or another admin can combine these into just one thread. -Mike
  22. Those are called rocker panels and only the outer ones are available. You can get them at Tabco http://www.tabcobodyparts.com/html/table_of_contents.htm -Mike
  23. I was hoping this thread was about one of these .
