  1. Yes, those are the correct seatbelts for a 1970. I think the Choke knob is from a 260Z though and the coin cup should be further back on the console, not in front of the choke (may it is loose and you just set it there?). -Mike
  2. According to this old thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26001, several people had claimed to have owned it over the years, but no one had provided evidence to confirm it. -Mike
  3. I think you missed a few 'little Ls' in post #17 too. Its interesting to see that some members chose to jump on the 'bash the US' bandwagon when the topic of 'was the S30 designed for the US or world market' comes up. By the way, I do agree with Alan that the S30 was designed for the world market. I started a thread a week or so ago about a Datsun USA press release that would have been a better basis for that discussion http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35384, but there were few comments about it. Alan, if you have questions or comments about the post on ctzcc.com why not post them there so the person that posted can address them directly? It seems like you are asking for people on this site who didn't make the comments to defend them. Back to the original subject of this thread - the 'discovery' of HLS30-00013. I would think it is significant for what it appears to be - the lowest VIN# HLS30 sold directly to the public. My understanding is HLS30-00006 through HLS30-00008 were used by Nissan for publicity (auto shows, etc.) and then used for racing, so in my opinion they would all be more valuable than this car. I would also think that any complete PS30 in decent shape or true works rally car would be much more valuable than this car. I am sure there are other more significant S30 variants as well. -Mike
  4. Sarah, I think Will is refering to this thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35009. Specifically, posts #22 and 23. -Mike
  5. I use this 20 wt compressor oil that I got from Sears http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00916427000P?vName=Tools&cName=Air+Compressors+%26+Air+Tools&keyword=compressor+oil. The bottle is perfect for squirting the oil in without making a mess. -Mike
  6. The carb tuning instructions in the factory service manual (FSM) are pretty much the same as on the Ztherapy video. I think some of the FSMs are available online. If you do a search you should be able to find the link to where they are posted. You will need a carb sync tool, like this Uni-syn http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EDELBROCK-UNI-SYN-Model-A-MULTI-CARB-SYNC-TOOL-1-00-NR_W0QQitemZ220463510762QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Automotive_Tools?hash=item3354a634ea&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 and a long flat blade screwdriver. -Mike
  7. Thanks for the confirmation and the reference page. The FSM's I have for 1970 and 1972 just say "install the engine slingers, exhaust manifold" and "install the intake manifold with carburetor and heat shield plate" on that page, but don't provide any torque specs. -Mike
  8. Following Geezer's recent advise, I looked at the "similar threads" shown at the bottom of this one and found one that I hadn't seen searching http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13330. It says 5.8 to 8.7 ft lbs, so I guess I will go with the 8 ft lbs that the Hayes manual says. As was mentioned in the other thread, that doesn't really seem very tight, but apparently that is all it needs. -Mike
  9. What is the proper torque setting for stock intake and exhaust manifold nuts on a 240Z? I searched and one person said 8-11.6 ft lbs in one thread. Another said 10-13 ft lbs for "small size" nuts and 25-36 lbs for "larger" nuts. All of the nuts are 12mm, except one that holds the fuel rail on is 13mm. The Haynes manual says 8 ft lbs. I can't find anything listed in the FSM. -Mike
  10. Yes, but I think he was asking for wiper arms (that connect the blades to the motor), not the blades themselves. -Mike
  11. Unfortunately, I decided to clean up the engine bay and install some Ztherapy carbs in #32 before the show on Sunday so I will be finishing that project up tomorrow. -Mike
  12. Try Harbor Freight. I think these will work. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=8832 -Mike
  13. Yes, like I said before, I think the only difference for the various 240Z years is the solid cable vs the earlier wire strands. This is supported by the fact that they list part number 18410-E8803 for manual trans from 6/70 to 7/73. Not sure if the cables for automatics are actually different or not. -Mike
  14. Engine - section 16 - Accelerator pedal, Choke & throttle control The parts manual shows lots of different part numbers for the choke assemblies, with overlapping date ranges. In addition to the ones I gave you before there are 7 others for the L24 shown, including 18410-E4502 for automatics from 2/70 to 2/71 and 18410-E8803 for manuals from 6/70 to 7/73. I think the only difference in 240Z choke cables is that the earliest cables were made of wire strands and the later ones were one solid cable. The later ones hold up better. -Mike
  15. There are two small metal clips that attach to the left and right sides of the vent opening. They have a hole that the pins go through. If you don't have the clips you might be able to make something similar or just use something like Automotive Goop to hold the trim pieces on. -Mike
  16. 18410-E4601 from 3/71 - 8/71 18410-E8800 from 9/71 - 1/72 -Mike
  17. Yep, I beat you by 30 mins or so. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=35400 -Mike
  18. Not sure if you guys have noticed, but for the last week or so, Kyosho 1/18 scale BRE 240Z models have started showing up on eBay. They are all being sold out of Hong Kong. The first ones last week were listed at $178 plus $36 shipping, but are now about $150 with $36 shipping. I have been waiting for these to come out since I saw the protype in person at the Brock's house over a year ago. I emailed Gayle to ask why they were on eBay, but not on the BRE site (bre2.net). She said they were having some US distribution issues, but hoped to have that worked out soon. I just heard back from her and she found a work around for the problems they were having. The models are available on the BRE site now for $139 plus $7.10 priority mail shipping, but are still enroute from Japan, so they won't ship from BRE until the week of 8/18. The models are limited to a production run of 3,000. BRE is also offering a special signed and numbered limited edition of 146 that will be signed by Peter Brock and John Morton for an additional $50. Gayle is trying to get a newsletter out tonight to let people know. Here is a link to the BRE site http://www.bre2.net/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=B&Product_Code=brekyosho240zmodel46&Category_Code=models. -Mike
  19. No, this was definitely for external press purposes. This came from the collection of an automotive writer for the San Francisco Chronicle from 1968-1975. -Mike
  20. Thanks Chris. That is what I was thinking too. Your 270X project looks like the drawing to the right of the two guys with shirts and ties in my design center photo "styling concepts for future projects" (image #3 in lower right corner). The model in front of them looks kind of like it too. -Mike
  21. Here is an old Datsun USA press release dated April 29, 1969 that I got recently. I thought some of you might find it interesting. The picture of the Datsun design center seems familiar, but I can't recall where I may have seen it before. Note the two door sport coupe undergoing testing in the wind tunnel picture. -Mike
  22. For a non-Z activity, make sure to check out the hydroplane races and the Blue Angels tomorrow at Seafair http://www.seafair.com/ -Mike

  25. I'll most likely be at the ZCCW show on the 9th. Maybe bringing two cars if I can get the wife to drive one. The local Z club does group drives about every month I think, but they are generally all day drives. I have directions for the last couple. One is a "circle the sound" drive that goes over the the Olympic peninsula and gives you an option for a longer or shorter version. The is also a "SW Washington Drive" that goes along the columbia river, and a "North Cascades" drive. I am at the coast right now, but I'll be back tomorrow night. If you want to get together sometime while you're here send me a PM. We might get A7DZ and Zsondabrain to join in too. -Mike
