  1. I use these. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95214 -Mike
  2. Carl, on HybridZ, someone said they emailed Peter and he said the film is kept at the UCLA film library and has to be checked out to be viewed. I guess someone made a bootleg of it. -Mike
  3. I saw this posted on HybridZ the other day and thought I would post it here too. You may want to FF through the first 20 sec or so. Apparently this was a senior project student film by George Lucas. Filmed on location at Willow Springs Raceway in California back in the day. It does look like the pod racer scene from Star Wars in some places, doesn't it? -Mike
  4. Definitely not original. -Mike
  5. Don't they have reproduction vintage battery cases for Ford and other US cars? Someone should make a reproduction Yuasa plastic case (just sides and bottom) that you could slip an off the shelf battery into. I guess just going with the all black case with stickers removed is the best option for now. -Mike
  6. Randy, I agree that a part is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I certainly have paid what others consider to be high prices for things I wanted. However, I do have a problem with sellers claiming that an item is no longer available from the dealer when it actually is. I know Esprist did that with his coils because I bought two of the exact same ones (from Courtesy) as he was selling on ebay a couple of weeks after he started listing them as NLA. Here is one of his more recent ads http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-Ignition-Coil-260Z-NOS-Super-Rare_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a13Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem380097599456QQitemZ380097599456QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories It looks like he at least modified the wording recently to say "This part has been back ordered nationally for last 5 years by Nissan USA and Japan." That still implies it is NLA to me. I thought that was the case with his battery covers too, but maybe not. If someone wants to spend $175 for a battery cover that looks to be a recent production that is their choice. -Mike
  7. I checked with Courtesy Nissan and they said the battery covers are NLA now. Selling them for $175 still seems pricy, but no worse than people reselling the door panels I guess. The coils were still available at least as of a month or two ago. -Mike
  8. Hopefully you didn't pay the $175 that ebay seller esprist is selling these for now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-Battery-top-cover-lid-NOS-Rare_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem380101802886QQitemZ380101802886QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories He has turned into the new reddat, reselling items still available new from the dealer. He started selling coils at about $250, but they are now down to around $190 I think. The coils are still available from the dealer for less than $100 I believe, so I am sure that is where he is getting the battery covers too. Edit: Looks like Courtesy has the two battery cover parts listed for $14.90 and $6.73 for a total of $21.63(if they are still in stock). A little less than the $175 esprist is trying to sell them for. -Mike
  9. I thought the guy that was trying to sell these signed posters for $400 - $500 on ebay a while ago was crazy (I don't think he ever sold any at that price). Now someone has a BIN for $1,495????? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/300ZX-SMZ-240Z-280Z-Original-Poster-Signed-GTR-Original_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ56421QQihZ014QQitemZ330304958591QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I think he will be keeping it . -Mike
  10. I guess the buyer didn't read this thread. They sold for $510 US, plus $110 US for shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120371267593&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem= Not a bad profit for something that cost about $345 US a few days ago. -Mike
  11. Moonpup, I agree with your point. People should understand that date codes are not an exact science, but they are interesting to compare between cars. They help give us a better understanding of the production process. -Mike
  12. There is a Kirk header for sale on eBay right now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=150324007905 The mounting flange does seems thin compared to a Clifford/Nissan Comp header though. -Mike
  13. Just trying to point out that the year is the first digit of the date code on these, not the last. No one said that any date codes are ever a "perfect match", but parts should generally be within a certain date range of the cars production date to be correct "as it left the factory". Certainly we have seen examples of part dates that don't match up perfectly with production dates, especially on the earliest cars. -Mike
  14. firewall plugs(A/c lines)1&3/8" size - No factory A/C in a 1971 hatch plugs - 27035-21000 door bumpers - 82865-21010, 80865-E4100 floor plugs(I've seen 2 different #'s for these). - Couldn't find anything for this (but I'm sure I have some extra if you need them) Cowl panel drain hoses - 66430-E4100 Door panel fastner receptacles - 80929-32200 -Mike
  15. The number on my 5/72 is 2501, so the code would actually be: Arne ...... 7/71 -Nikki 1701 rtaylor.....2/71 -Nikki 1201 Mike B......5/72 -Nikki 2501 There is also an "A2" inside the raised box on the left side. Not sure what that means. The second picture is of the fuel pump on HLS30-00210 (11/69). Notice there is no date code and the screws are different. Same yellow paint blob in the center though. -Mike
  16. I'll take a look at some of my parts catalogs in the next day or two, when I get a chance. Keep in mind that A/C was dealer installed for a 1971, so there was no Nissan part # for firewall grommets for those lines unless they used something intended for another purpose, like heater hoses. I've got so many spare floor plugs from parts cars, I'll never need to order those, so I've never worried about that. Hatch plugs and door bumpers are probably in the parts catalogs. Not sure about cowl panel drain hoses. or door panel fastner receptacles. -Mike
  17. I'll check on my 5/72 tonight when I get home. I did notice the number was different than yours, but don't recall what it was. Also, I noticed that none of my 1969 cars have any numbers at all. -Mike
  18. Sept. 28 - Oct. 2' date=' 2009 [url']http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=33269 -Mike
  19. Arne, All of my cars have the Nikki fuel pump (10/69, 11/69 x 3, and 5/72). -Mike
  20. Yes, Arne posted two pictures of it in post #10 and they also show in your post #28. -Mike
  21. You are right Carl. I incorrectly said that US series 1 240Zs came with the WASO ignition key. I should have said the VOSS key (or just left that out all together so as not to confuse, but I am trying to be more internationally correct with my statements ). A picture of the correct VOSS key is shown below. You are right that he needs to find a VOSS ignition to match his key code. Since all of the US Series 1 cars had the VOSS ignition it should be much easier to find a VOSS ignition than a WASO in the US anyway. I think I may have a spare one around somewhere from a parts car. -Mike
  22. Maybe you can let us in on the secret after it is all over. -Mike
  23. John, I am not a locksmith, but I think there is still some confusion here. Series one cars have two separate and very different single sided keys: one for the ignition and one for the doors, hatch and glove box (let's just call it a door key now for simplicity). The keys have different groove profiles (keyways) so you can not get a series one ignition keyed to match a series one door key. That is why series one cars have two different key codes, one for the ignition and one for the doors. The ignition key is made of steel and for the US market they were all the VOSS type (see the first picture below). There were four different door key blanks (see the next four pictures below). Cars would randomly get a one of the four types of door keys when they were built. The groove profiles are different so they are not interchangable. The ignition key is also about 1/4" longer than the door keys. Series two cars have one double sided key that works the ignition and all the other locks on the car. There are two types of series two key blanks (a left and a right groove pattern). Like the four types of series one door blanks, they are not interchangeable. What type of ignition do you have now? Single sided or double sided? If you get a used series one ignition you will still have a separate ignition key whether you get it keyed to your original ignition code or not. That is how they came from the factory. -Mike
  24. Motorsport Auto also sells replacement floors http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/SBC1B10. I have heard that their "Premium" floors are the same ones sold by Charlie. Those floors (sold by Charlie and MSA's premium floors) are the most accurate replacements and the ones everyone recommends as being the best. The frame rails that come with these kits are only the parts under the floor pan on back. They don't include the front of the frame rails. It looks like Bad Dog does sell this piece though. I think A7DZ made a similar repair to his car when he restored it. There are several posts on his restoration work, so search for that. -Mike
