  1. Hi Carl, Not sure if you ever saw this "Datsun Styling" press release from April 1969 that I posted last year http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35384. In the attached picture it shows "wind tunnel research" in the #2 photo. I'm not sure if this was a Nissan owned facility or not, but it seems they did use wind tunnels as part of their design work. -Mike
  2. Rick, a 6/70 US car definitely would have had the emissions tank, so this would be the wrong tank for a stock replacement for that car. Ron (Geezer), I have one or two spare non-emissions tanks that I saved from early cars that were parted. If this NOS one doesn't work out for you I'll keep you in mind if you are interested. -Mike
  3. Sorry for the late reply, I was out all day after my post. Anyway, sure, feel free to use the pictures, although I believe I contacted the same person you did about the spoiler before I left and I got a similar reply to what you posted. -Mike
  4. I am referring to the additional upper and lower ducting shown in these pictures of an original early BRE spook that came on one of my cars. I don't think that is visible in the photo. -Mike
  5. Interesting. I thought Les at CDM had the original BRE molds for the spook. I wonder if he will still be selling them? Also, I wonder if these new spooks will come with the integrated brake ducting like the early BRE spooks did? -Mike
  6. It's back, but now at $30k with no reserve http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-2-0F-3-240Z-PRIMADONNA-Z-2-3-JACK-ATKINSON-UNBELIEVABLE-FLA-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem35aacbaeb2QQitemZ230498741938QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks. I think last time it was listed at $100k, so its on sale for 70k off! Better be careful what else I say, or the Z price police may crack down on me. -Mike
  7. This has been discussed lots of times. Do a search with some key words like "header round square" and you will find all you need to know. -Mike
  8. Kats, I was wondering about the bottom holes. Are the lower holes used to mount the oil cooler on the top of the support or on the front (next to the holes used to mount the horns)? On both my cars it looks like there are three hold on the front of the support next to each horn and a couple of holes on the top of the support. None of these holes look like they are threaded. Are nuts needed to attach the bottom of the oil cooler? I also noticed that my red 1972 has two threaded hole in the top of the left corner of the lower radiator support, but the blue car does not (see the last two pictures). -Mike
  9. It means the hole has threads in it used to attach a machine screw or a bolt. It is like the inside of a nut, if that helps. -Mike
  10. Here is a picture of a low mileage July 1970 build car that 26thZ posted some pictures of from the 2005 Zcon. It looks like it has the countersunk areas and threaded hole on top of the radiator support. -Mike
  11. Hi Kats, I checked and both the blue and red car have the two threaded holes in front for the oil cooler. It looks like the red car (72) also has a third smaller unthreaded hole. It seems I need to spend some time cleaning up the front of the radiators and supports on both my cars . I am also attaching the pictures from Mr. Takeuchi' s blog that you provided the link to for reference. -Mike
  12. I happened to notice that the upper radiator support for my 5/72 is slightly different than on my 1969 production cars. The red car in the pictures below is my 72 and the areas where the hood support rod and the rod storage bracket are mounted are countersunk slightly. There is also a threaded hole near the radiator cap that isn't there on my early cars. I wonder what that hole is for? -Mike
  13. I found this red writing on the right side dash support area of my white car (HLS30-00210). The same location where a red number "58" was written on my HLS30-00032's dash. Also, I went to check on the progress of the body repair and paint preprep for the white car yesterday. The painter showed me that "No. 3" was written on the top of the inner fender. There was also what looked like several Japanese words written on the exterior of the top part of the passenger door. The door is stripped of all paint and primer, so this must have been written on the bare metal before it was primed. Unfortunately, I was in a hurry and left my camera at home, so no pictures of that yet. I asked the paint guy to take a couple for me, but he is a better painter than photographer, so we'll see if that happens or not. I may drop by again next weekend to take some pictures myself. -Mike
  14. You could add these two Nissans to your dream garage. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/nissan/unspecified/1068125.html http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissan-300ZX-Racecar-1987-Nissan-300ZX-IMSA-GTO-Racecar-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem230867b81aQQitemZ150464870426QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks -Mike
  15. Actually, if you remember the movie "Fletch", it's called the Fetzer valve. It's all ball bearings now days .... . -Mike
  16. The plug up top is just another floor drain plug. Not sure why they are up that high, but they are on my 72 also. Just leave that plug in place. The one to the side of the pocket is for the bolt that mounts the retractors. Are you talking about the wires under the passenger side interior dog leg panel? That is just part of the rear wiring harness that runs back through the body (for taillights, antenna, defroster, etc.). -Mike
  17. There have been several threads about the light blue airboxes in the past. Here are a couple I found after a quick search. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35107 http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32263 I believe the consensus is in the North American market they were replacements obtained from the dealer. I found one on a parts car that had been hit hard on the drivers side and repaired, so I agree with the dealer replacement part theory. -Mike
  18. If you think the ebay car that was the original subject of this thread is over priced how about this $10K parts car http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Datsun-240Z-Parts-Car-3490-/400135191707?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Salvage_Parts_Cars&hash=item5d29ea7c9b. Salvage title, non-operational, really rough looking shape. I guess he is helping prop up the Z values for all of us . -Mike

  20. So Carl (Beck), based on the first couple of posts in this thread, do you still think that the red car shown in the 1970 240Z US brochure was HLS30-00007? In the other thread I posted the link to above, you said that the photographer that took the brochure photos had contacted you and you had some unpublished pictures. What do you make of the difference in bracket that Kats pointed out in the engine bay shot of the red car? -Mike
  21. Just be glad you didn't order a new water pump from MSA a month ago like I did. After waiting three weeks, I called to check the status and was told the order was on hold because they are out of stock on the water pump bolts I also ordered. Of course no one ever called to let me know that. I told them to ship the order without the bolts. After waiting another week, I called back yesterday, and was on hold for 10 minutes then promptly hung up on at 5pm. Guess it was quittin' time. After I called back today, they told me the pump still hadn't been shipped. Looks like I won't get it until next week now (assuming they really did ship it today). -Mike
  22. So I am guessing you got the new one for less than $5K then . -Mike
  23. I have a couple of extra hatches from 1972's with glass and some of the other parts you may need too. Send me a PM. I am just east of Seattle. -Mike
  24. I came across this site today with a ton of vintage Z photos. It looks like a few are from members here. http://sites.google.com/site/zlalomz/imsagtuz Its can be a little difficult to navigate to all of the pictures so here are a few more direct links: http://sites.google.com/site/zlalomz/page1redo http://sites.google.com/site/zlalomz/moreimsagtuzracing http://sites.google.com/site/zlalomz/imsagturacingpage3 http://sites.google.com/site/steveparmleycameraguy/imsa-gt-u-datsun-z -Mike
  25. Wow, looks great Steve! Thanks for the pictures. I've probably got a month or two before I need to decide. I'm sure that with modern paint technology either way would be fine. When I had my blue car painted last year it was using base and clear, which was correct for the car since it's a metallic color, so it was an easy decision. -Mike
