My $100 Craigslist Series I Earliest Automatic
Mike B replied to kurtwwalters's topic in Open Discussions
Wow! $100 would be great for a complete parts car in general, but for a series one car that is outstanding, and for what is now the earliest automatic with the 2400 valve cover that is incredible. I agree with Carl, it is amazing that some people don't know the value of early Z's and their parts. -Mike -
If you didn't already buy the other one, you should check out this one as well. http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/car/606592112.html -Mike

Hi Kurt, Actually, its not my info. I guess it is Carl's since it is from his zhome.com site. I think all of the specific VIN info is the "as yet reported" though, and not meant to be a definitive guide. I'm sure Carl would be interested in getting any updated info as to the lowest 71 VIN, the earliest automatic, or the latest 2400 valve cover. -Mike

Well, you were right. #279 didn't sell the first time. It sold at the end of the second listing for $7,000. Not bad. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=280206514819&rd=1 -Mike

Might be on Ebay soon...if so don't abuse me too bad
Mike B replied to mally002's topic in Open Discussions
Carl, I think Randy's car looks to be in very good shape, but those prices sound kind of high for a 1973 with a cracked dash and door panels that need to be replaced. An uncracked dash is at least $1000 and new door panels are $600 or more. I don't recall seeing what the mileage on the car was, but I thought that 1973s were somewhat less valuable than other 240z's due to the the emission changes that year. I think it would also be important to include some shots of the floors with the carpets removed. -Mike -
These are the front floor mats from another 1972. I forgot to take pictures of the ones in my 5/72 before it got dark, but these are the same style. Note the brown backing. -Mike

This is the carpet from Too Intense Restoration for the series 1 cars. Bound edges, but no cut outs for the cargo straps, it is much lighter (maybe because it doesn't have the spray on back coating), it has the back padding made of colored threads, and the pattern is not as accurate as the original. -Mike
-
This is some very faded carpet from a 3/71 (an early series 2) parts car I got recently. It has the same clear backing as the earlier carpet, but the cargo straps are lower and there are flaps for the jack and tool storage compartments. -Mike
-
The are pictures of early carpet. The first three pics are from an 11/69 production car. The rubber mat is unique to some of the 69 cars. The other pics are from a 5/70 (this carpet is currently in my #237). Notice the clear backing and less defined loops (not just from wear) on both. -Mike
-
I am going to post some various carpet pics for comparision. This carpet is in my low mileage 5/72 (a series 3 car). It is in like new condition. Notice the more defined loops and the grey backing, which are different than what I have seen in earlier cars. -Mike

Hey Arne, Can you post some pics of the front and back of your original carpet? I have a couple of different pieces that I am not sure if they are original or not. If they are not original, they seem to at least be a higher quality than what is available now. -Mike
-
Arne, I found a dealer list from September 1971 in a parts car I got recently. It had a few differences, so I am posting the Oregon and Washington dealers and the covers. This dealer list also has the Canadian and Mexican dealers, but the other one I posted (from 1972 I believe) only has US dealers. -Mike

According to this old thread, it looks like that is correct, and the original grommets aren't available anymore. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22558&highlight=early+cable+hood+release I will have to check my cars to confirm this and see what their grommets look like. -Mike

Here are the rest of the pages. I like the drawing of the period Datsuns on the inside back cover. -Mike

-
Someone asked me to post the Washington dealers from this directory too. I went ahead and scanned all of the pages and I'll post the rest in case anyone else is interested in another reply. -Mike
-
Arne, There is no date on this one, but I am pretty sure it is the original one that came with my 1972 240z. Hopefully that is close enough. -Mike
-
I have a list at home Arne. I'll take a look and post tonight, if no one else beats me to it by then. -Mike

Lots of police departments are using Chargers now. Seattle got several last year. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003692967_drivers04m.html I saw an unmarked one the other day that had someone pulled over downtown. The flashing blue and red lights were hidden in the grill.

$30,000 Datsun 240z's....Get yours before it's too late
Mike B replied to mally002's topic in Open Discussions
These are the six condition levels from the Kruse Old Cars Price Guide that Carl frequently sites in posts. http://www.zhome.com/Buying/OldCarsPriceGuide.htm -Mike -
Was it #237 by chance that you were looking at in NJ? If so, I bought it and it is in decent shape but I would not say unmolested or zero rust. I had to replace the floors and there is a major rust issue in the passenger cowl/firewall that will need to be fixed properly. Of course I paid much less than $7300 for it though, so all in all it was not a bad deal. -Mike
-
Yes, it was mentioned in this other post. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29629 The last I saw that car was advertised on the Merced craigslist for $2500.

Actually Carl, both this seller and the prior owner claimed that this car does have the original engine. From the seller's HybridZ ad linked to above... "The body is straight with a nice blue paint job, the L24 is all original and will be running as soon as I install the new fuel pump. Has some rust issues on the floor boards and rear tailgate area. Actual date of manufacture is 11/69 so its very rare obviously. Tags are up to date. I have three pics on cardomain when I first bought it. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2662774" I posted about this car being for sale in the Hybridz classified last Nov for $3000 (she later dropped her price to $2500 and it probably sold for even less). In her ad she notes it has the original engine (#2389). http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28745&highlight=%23464 -Mike
