There are several people on this site with 1969 production cars. I have two - #237 and #331. #331 sounds like your old car, minus the front ender you mentioned. It was originally green with tan and has been a couple of diff colors over the years. Most recently black, and the tan interior was painted black as well, but it least that flakes off fairly easily. Oddly enough I recently picked up a part I bought on ebay and after talking to the guy it turns out he used to own #331 and sold it to the guy I bought it from. -Mike

You must have a very early 1970 to have those seats guards. What is your VIN #? I think you will find that these seat guards are unobtainable, since they were on so few cars and were damaged fairly easily and discarded. We need someone to make good reproductions of a set, but the market would be so small that it would be difficult for someone to take that project on. I think Will (hls30.com) has talked about trying to make some, but he needs a set to make a mold from. I know I would be in for several sets if that ever happens. -Mike

I'm not an expert on this, but I think the 240, 260, and 280 all share the same basic S30 body. There are 2+2 variants for the 260 and 280 I believe, so maybe you are thinking of that? In the US there was no 74 280z, the only 74 was the 260z and the 280z began in 75. I think that is the same for Canada. -Mike

Kats is looking to buy an original bridgestone to complete his set, but he is looking for an SR14 instead of the later HR14. My 10/70 parts car came with a perfect SR14, but mine is a Toyo Z-1, like zhead240's. -Mike

Yeah, I spoke to her in July and thought it probably sold soon after that, so I was surprised to get a message yesterday that it was still for sale. She was kind of hard to get ahold of. I don't think she had her number in the ad originally and she may have lowered the price some recently. I think the car is inoperative. One of those it ran when I parked it a couple of years ago and we tried to start it recently but couldn't get it running stories. -Mike

I don't have any relation to the seller, but I spoke with her briefly this summer and considered buying it, but then I found a package deal for #331, two parts cars, and other parts about 10 miles from me. I'm attaching the additional pictures she emailed me this summer. The rear hatch looks rusty. The door VIN tag has been painted over and I didn't get any other pics to confirm it is numbers matching or of any other rust prone areas. I'm just passing this along in case anyone else may be interested since she needs to sell quickly. -Mike

Thanks Randy. It is hard to tell from the pictures. Even if they were dead on from the side the tint isn't very dark, so it isn't real noticable unless you compare the two side by side. I'll take a picture of the tinted and untinted door glass and post for comparison. I think the best way to tell is comparing the numbers etched in the glass (M-214 or M-224). -Mike

Does anyone else with a low VIN car have clear glass on the door windows and quarter windows? The clear glass is labeled M-214 and the later tinted glass is labeled M-224. -Mike

No, I almost drove one one there, but it was about a 100 mile round trip and decided to take another car instead. The low VIN one that he used to own is inoperative and a real project car. That was the way he bought it about 8 yrs ago and is has't been touched since. It will take me a couple of years to complete that, but I told him I would bring one of my other Z's by sometime. -Mike

So I go to pick up some parts I won on eBay recently and the guy I am getting the parts from mentions he used to have a 1969 production 240z. I told him I have two and asked him what the VIN was. He couldn't remember, but as he described, it I realized I own that car now! It is #331 and I bought it a couple of months ago from the guy that he sold it to 5 yrs ago. The guy I was buying the parts from had bought it to turn into a vintage racer because it was a 1969 production car, but when he looked into it further he wasn't going to be able to race it like he had planned. I think there have been other posts about people trying to do the same thing with the 1969 cars. He also showed me a 1970 he is just finishing that he put a Cobra 289 motor in. Apparently he used to vintage race a Cobra and had a spare motor left over that he decided to use for his conversion project. To top it all off, he emailed me after I got home and apparently his daughter happened to come over today and heard my voicemail I left for him. We both work for the same company and we used to be in the same department together. -Mike

Hey Steve, I got the VIN from the seller yesterday. It is #2936, so I would guess a March or early April 1970. The rear plastic interior panel doesn't have tailight access holes, so I could tell it was a fairly early car. I like the blue interiors and would really like to have a car with one some day. -Mike

I watched this car when it was for sale on ebay and I was surprised it didn't sell. It looks like there is rust in the rocker panels, but otherwise looks good based on the pictures shown and seems to have most of the original parts. I would think series one cars would be the easiest to sell of any of the model years and I think the price is pretty good, especially for a decent car on the east coast. Carl Beck can give you a much more expert opinion than I can though. -Mike

I have a couple of early 240z "Datsun" metal hatch emblems. One is hollow and one is solid. You can only tell this by looking at the backside. The solid one came from #331 (an 11/69 production car). I have read other posts about early quater panel and hatch 240z emblems with a solid chrome Z instead of the painted white Z. I think Chris had mentioned that there were two versions of this, one that was hollow on the back and one that was solid. Does anyone else with an early car have a solid Datsun hatch emblem? -Mike

Great pictures. I see that they have pictures of the first 350z (Z33-000001). I thought VIN#1 was sold by Nissan USA to a Nissan dealer in Everett, WA (Performance Nissan)? I was at a Z car show there this summer and they have the car in their showroom with a copy of the ebay winning bid and a certificate from Nissan. Here are a couple of bad pictures I took of it. Is this just the first z-33 sold in the US? -Mike

Arne, sounds like a smart financial choice, given the alternatives. Emotionally I agree it is a tough decision, but I think you are correct that you couldn't count on getting back what you would have to put into once you've finished it. I think you are right to cut your losses now and part it out and put the proceeds back into your red car. -Mike
