  1. I'm considering buying #237 and was wondering if anyone in or near Linden NJ could check it out for me. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/datsun/240z/403348.html The seller has sent me lots of other pictures and I can post some when I get home. It looks to be mostly stock. Non orig items include 5spd, steering wheel, radio, carpet on trans tunnel, radiator fan, etc. The vehicle was supposedly "restored" about 6 years ago. I am dealing with an employee of the sister of the late (original) owner, so they don't know all the details. The car has supposedly been stored inside and started and moved every 3 months or so since the restoration, but otherwise not driven. Not sure if any motor work was done or just body/interior. The negatives include 4" crack in dash, small repair patches in both floors, no receipts or service records. Positives are the low VIN and most costly early items appear to be in good shape (hubcaps, rear glass, ashtray, etc.). The price sounds like a good deal. Can some of the early VIN owners on here chime in. Also, there appears to be some red coloring on the underside of the floorboards. Not sure what that is. I'll include photos of it later today. I need to move quickly on this, so any help is much appreciated. -Mike
  2. Reminds me of another story I saw the other day about a 1957 Plymouth barried in Tlsa, OK 50 years ago that will be opened soon. Heres the link http://www.tulsaworld.com/OpinionStory.asp?ID=070121_Op_G1_nohea12499

  5. Here's one. It doesn't look like it comes with glass though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DATSUN-240Z-SERIES-1-REAR-HATCH-TAILGATE-PERFECT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ140713QQihZ012QQitemZ220071796175QQrdZ1

  7. How about this one? http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/236884004.html or this one http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/237134493.html
  8. I think these are the two yellow wheel chocks. -Mike
  9. Arne, I checked and I have the same ones on my 1972 (except they have the year 1972 on them). My car only has about 38,000 miles and still has all the original hoses, etc. -Mike
  10. Has anyone else seen this set of mircrofiche copies on eBay? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190041182265&rd=1,1 It appears to just be copies of the microfiche that someone has printed and bound with a plastic spiral binder. The bidding is at $103.01 for this, and that seems kind of high to me for something that is just a book of bound copies. I wonder if this is due to confusion over the actual dealer parts catalogs?
  11. I got it on ebay a couple of months ago and paid around $50 US. I didn't really expect to win it, but I don't think people really noticed it for some reason. I hadn't seen one before, so I think they are fairly rare. Someone contacted me soon afterward and offered to buy it for quite a bit more than I paid, but I decided to keep it for now. I have the parts CD from the club as well, but I was interested in this since it was published in 11/69 and I thought it would be interesting to see differences between my 72 and the early models. Some of the pictures in it are pretty cool and I like having the hardcopy of these. It has some funny suggestions to the dealers on some of the divider pages and a page with samples of all of the seat vinyl colors. As for collecting Z memorabilia I don't think you should buy something with the intent that it will be worth more in the future, but if you find something you like and you think it is a reasonable price then go for it.
  12. I have the first US and Canada edition (LHD) dated 11/69.
  13. Has anyone tried carbs from Zeddsaver.com? I emailed him to ask how his compared to those from Ztherapy and he said "the difference between my carbs and Z therapy carbs is that Z therapy uses after market needles and hardware/ jets when they rebuilt there carbs. Also my carbs are finished off with a high temp clear coat so they will run smoother and colder in the engine bay. This clear coat will not dull or peel off unlike Z thrapys carbs which are polished and will start dulling the moment the carb bodies (Aluminum) heats up in the engine bay, this will create vaper lock." Zeddsaver carbs are $450 US shipped. They look nice on the website. So has anyone actually tried them?
  14. Yeah Arnie, but you already got your craigslist hubcap deal so I think I was due:classic: I used to have a set of these on my first 72 Z I had from 90 to 95 and I think I have a better appreciation for them now then I did then.
  15. I picked up an old set of four of the 5 slot wheels made by US MAG from Craigslist last weekend for $30. They came with all four of the center caps and with two Dunlop tires mounted with about 3/4 tread left. I thought it was a pretty good find.
  16. The prior owner installed wire for the right rear speaker by tucking the wire up under the front firewall insulation from the console to the right wire bundle that runs from the firewall to behind the passengers seat. There are several bendable clips that hold the original wire bundle in place that you can use to run them together. I think the speaker wire and wire bundle then go through an access hole at the base of the rear wheel arch until it reaches the rear speaker which is mounted across from the one on the left side using a similar bracket.
  17. When I got my 240z it came with a NOS datsun seat cover that the owner bought in 1977 (it was packed in a box with a newspaper from the time that was advertising the first Star Wars movie). The drivers seat had some damage to it, so I bought new foam from Too Intense Restoration, which from what I heard, had the best foam set available. I had the cover and foam installed by an upholstery shop, but when I went to pick it up it didn't fit tight enough on the headrest, so they had to add some more foam to make it fit tight. The body of the seat was fine, but they did have to sew and extra seam at the bottom to get it to fit right.
  18. They underside of the floors are treated with factory undercoating, so I am less worried about them at the moment. I will have to check them out further when I have the time, but from what I have seen the undercoating looks to be intact.
  19. PirOson - No, the floor is orignal. The two brighter silver spots on the back side of the front seat mount in the 2nd driver's side pic are due to the glare of the POR-14 around the channels that go under the brackets.
  20. More pics of the drivers side after removing the tar mats and then after treatment with Metal Ready and POR-15 clear.
  21. I took the seats out of my 38,000 mile 1972 240Z and decided to check out the floors a little more closely. On the surface they looked rust free due to the tars mats covering them. I carefully peeled up the mats and found some pretty heavy "surface rust", but no holes....yet. So I decided to treat them with the clear POR-15 instead of the black so that it wouldn't obsecure their actual condition. After two solid days of treating the floors with Metal Ready and scraping off as much rust as possible I put two coats of clear POR-15 on yesterday. I was amazed by the results. I was able to carefully remove the tar mats without ripping them up and I may tack them back on the treated floors to preserve the original look and help keep the road noise down. Let me know what you think.
  22. I'm just confused as to what value he thinks he would be adding by "helping" east coast people to buy CA cars that anyone can find on craigslist by themselves. How much would he propose to charge for this "service"? Was he offering an inspection service? I think those are easy enough to find, and he didn't come across as a real Z specialist. I think most members here would be happy to check out cars in their area for someone else on the site for free.
