What is the best part of owning a classic Z?
Definitely the chicks. Every woman who has ridden in my Z has been to bed with me....So that is why I have been working so hard to get the resto done and get it back on the road....

Need a Connector
Greetings To All, I am in need of a 3 prong male connector like the one shown in the attached picture. This particular one is from the antenna switch cable on a 73 240Z. Would anybody have one of these they would like to part with or know where I could get one. ? Many thanks...

Dash Repair Process/Pictures
Fabulous job on your dash.. I'm one of the lucky ones as my dash hasn't cracked so far...but it has faded somewhat and I would like to restore the blackness. Would that SEM Trim black be the thing to use.? Does it come only in spray. I would like to apply it with the dash still in the car? Would that coating make the dash less likely to crack in the future?

Floor jack
I have a Sears (Craftsman) 3 Ton SUV Floor jack. It has a high lift of 21 inches which is nice for getting some extra height on the jack stands. I also use this on my Ford Bronco. It goes as low as 6" on the low end and this fits nicely under the Z. I use 3 ton jack stands as well they have a nice wide base and are very sturdy. The only thing I don't like about this jack is that it doesn't have a rubber pad on the lift saddle...

Sound Deadening ....Post OP
George, The Dynamat seems like a good product too but I think I would have gone with the Second Skin after talking with you and reading that article on the shootout. However, I saw this deal for Dynamat and ordered it a couple days before corresponding with you.... In any event my plan was to put down a layer of Dynamat Extreme and then a layer of the Dynamat Liner on top of that. Good idea ...i will check with the IZCC and register.. And lastly, believe it or not we had 82 degrees here on March 26. But just for a day. And it probably won't get back there until mid summer....

Theft deterent devices
I like the electric fuel pump kill switch idea....In my case I have both mechanical and electric fuel pumps on board. If the electric fuel pump is disabled, will the mechanical still draw gas through it?

Sound Deadening ....Post OP
Thanks Gary and George for your very helpful replies. I found a good deal on Dynamat Extreme at Amazon. I bought a Bulk Pak (36 sq ft) for $129 plus free shipping (this is better than 1/2 price). Now I just have to wait for the weather in Minneapolis to warm up some so I can get out into the garage and get to work.. I've got some POR15 on the way as well.. George, I too an the original owner of my Z. It's hard to believe that 34 years have passed by so quickly. Damn .....and they say that time passes even quicker with age.....But my Z time machine takes me back.....

Sound Deadening ....Post OP
Thanks for your inputs guys.. Hey Z111, I had seen that article on the sounddeadnershootout but hadn't gotten around to reading it until last night. Wow....that is a fantastic piece of work and research. Well, I'm not convinced to use Dynamat or the Second Skin stuff. Maybe a combination of both..... I have a couple questions about your install... Does your Z have the drain holes in the floor and are they plugged with the rubber grommets. This is the case with my car....So did you put down the Second material right over the rubber plugs or what. Also along the side of the threshold there are access holes into the rocker panel area. The same question here... Did you put the sound deadening material over those holes as well.. thanks

need opinions on switching to E31
My 73 240Z came with the E88 head. Due to a problem with this head I had it replaced with an E31 with the larger valves. The guy who sold me the E31 head didn't inform me that the larger valves would be a problem on the stock L24 motor. And being a novice at the time I didn't know of the potential problem.... Well, I ended up having to tear my motor down and bore out the cylinders and have a relief cut out of the upper edge of the cylinders. This was due to the larger valves coming into contact with the upper edge of the cylinder walls. But after doing all that the engine now runs great with those mods....

Sound Deadening ....Post OP
Hey Beandip, How long has it been since you installed the B-Quiet material? Did you apply it to the outer door skins as well? I'm really worried about rust forming underneath this material especially on the floor and doors.

Sound Deadening ....Post OP
Hey Guys, I'm considering putting one of the sound deadening products into my 73 240Z. I have read through the archives covering your fabulous inputs regarding this subject. However, I'm wondering how the various products have held up over time. Has anyone encountered any additional rust problems on the floor, doors, side panels etc.. Has the material stayed in place well. You get the idea....I'm looking for the post op analysis on the materials and techniques used. thanks

just wanted to see how old everyone is here?
I know what you mean Sleepyzzzz. My 73 240Z is my time machine. When I get in there and pop in an America or Eagles CD I am instantly transported back to the 70s. But lately it seems like it is getting harder to get out the Z though....mainly due to my aching back....ha ha

55 and here in MN. But I was reborn in 1973 when I bought my Z...

Any body have these and what do you think of them (padded console cup holder lid) ?
I bought one for my 73 a couple years back and I really like it. So far I haven't had any problems with it coming loose. I like the looks of it and it makes a nice place to rest ones arm while driving. I do agree with the cell phone thing. I never answer my cell when driving but I will wait till I'm parked to return calls. I would have been OK without the cup holders. In any event...just my 2 cents....

1976 280z fuel pump relay and power
Hey Smokey and all, I don't think I can be of much help on this one but I was wondering if anyone knows the reasoning for the voltage to the fuel pump to be cutoff while the starter is engaged. I'm thinking that you could disconnect the signal wire from the starter to the relay...I believe this relay is normally closed and it would pass relay power through its contacts.

1976 280z fuel pump relay and power
I don't know if this applies to your 280 or not but on my 73 240 the fuel pump power feeds through 2 relays in series. One will block power to the fuel pump while the engine is cranking and the other will block power if the engine RPMs are not over 400 ( or so). But in my case there is also a mechanical fuel pump as well....

Tire opinions
In general it would seem like the wider tires would give you better handling performance but I'm certainly no expert. My original tires on my 73 were 175SR14 and I went to the 205-65-15 and the car does seem to handle better in curves.. It just seems to grip the road better.. Does anyone know how the SR translates into the profile number? thanks

Tire opinions
Nice looking 280. Did you check tirerack.com. They seem to have a large assortment of tires and a great customer feedback section.. I am running a set of Yokohama AVID H4S (205/65/15) on 15 inch Panasports.

Dissapointed In My New Exhaust, Twice!!
I put the MSA Three Into Two Header on my car and it worked out fine. I got the one without the smog fittings. However, I didn't have such good success with the MSATurbo Exhaust System. The way the pipes lined up I couldn't get the Muffler to fit in straight so I scrapped the pipes and had custom ones made to my specifications. I was lucky to find a craftsman at a local Midas Store who was good at his craft and was willing to work with me. I ended up using the muffler from the above kit and I did get it to fit flat and straight in the small space. Here is a picture of what my exhaust system looks like...(Well, I was going to add a picture but for some reason the system wouldn't allow me to do it) Before mounting it I painted the whole thing with high temp paint. The extra pipes and the labor at Midas was less than $200.

What did your holidays bring your Z?
My Z got a pair of Polk 1" tweeters and an Mallory electric fuel pump. And one of the elves even installed the fuel pump.
