Which head is best..
Hey Guys, Very intesesting discussions on the various head and block combinations. However, it is a bit confusing with all the variations... Can someone come up with a chart that shows the different head and block combinations as the came OEM....And include the year, engine type (L24, 26) etc, which models they came on, and what were some of the characteristics of each, like valve size and etc...... I know that is a lot to ask for but that would be a huge help in understanding all this... Thanks MAX

Mechanical Fuel Pump 73 240Z
Thanks to all for the great suggestions. The diaphragm isn't split but it seems rather stiff. I will check the valves tomorrow to see if they are stuck. I didn't think of doing that.. As far as installing it and letting it try to pump gas, I'm not quite ready to do that yet...I just reinstalled the gas tank but don't have all the lines connected up yet...And I have a lot of other things to put back on the engine as well... Prior to installing the fuel pump about 3 years ago I did the same sort of test and I could definitely feel a suction at the input line.... I'll keep you all posted on the progress thanks again

Mechanical Fuel Pump 73 240Z
Help, Before re-installing the mechanical fuel pump on my 73 240Z, I checked it to see if it was still working. I actuated the lever several times and noticed that there was NO suction at the intake line. I have had it off the engine for 2 years while the engine was removed during body restoration and painting....and it worked fine prior to that... Any thoughts as to what may be the problem and how to correct it.. Many thanks MAX

Fuel lines
NCZ, Thanks for the reply. From earlier posts in this same thread it appears that this 3rd line does indeed come from the fuel vapor recovery tank. It is needed to allow air to flow back into the tank as gas is drawn out so as to equalize the air pressure. So it can not be blocked off and plugged at the tank. Presently I have it connected to the Flow Guide Valve and the top outlet from that goes to a connection under the left air cleaner on my Weber DGV carb. I had to custom make a fitting to fit the small hose. The other hose from the Flow Guide Valve is supposed to go to the nipple on the crank case breather tube. However, my Z consultant tells me that it is OK to remove the breather tube from the crank case and plug it up....So I did. So now I want to remove the Flow Guide Valve as well and connect the line coming from the fuel vapor recovery tank directly to the connection under the air cleaner. I believe this will work but am looking for conformation from some one who is more of an expert than I.. I tried to add a photo but I couldn't get it to work... Thanks MAX

Fuel lines
In reference to Post #2 of this thread, as posted by Bambikiller240 on 7/16/03: Can I connect the vent line coming from the fuel vapor recovery tank directly to the the air cleaner and remove it from the Flow Guide Valve? And furthermore, can I then remove the Flow Guide Valve completely? I too have removed all the air pollution stuff and am running dual Webers. Many thanks MAX

Crane Cam XR7000
I'm a novice regarding ignition systems and am thinking of replacing the standard points ignition on my 73 240Z with an electronic ignition system. What advantages does this provide? And I have been considering using the Crane Cam XR 7000. Aside from the fact that the Crane Cam unit allows you to replace the points with a non contact electronic method to control the coil what other functions does it provide? ie what else does it do? Does it change the spark characteristics for starting vs running, etc. Lastly, In reading through some of the archives I've come across some a couple achronyms like "dizzy" and "MSD". What do these mean? Many thanks MAX

Yokohama H4S vs YK420
Has anyone had any experience with either one of these tires. I'm considering purchasing one or the other for my 240Z. I'm looking at 205/65/15 for running on Panasport 15x7 wheels.. thanks

ZG front lip and headlight covers
NZEDER, Thanks for the information. I have been in contact with this fellow and he seems willing to help: J's Garage Export Yoshitaka Ikeda yosi@j-garage.com A friend of mine who lives in Japan helped me get a set of NOS G Nose parts last year but unfortunately he is too busy with his new job now to help. The parts are working out fine except for the Urethane Bumper which was used and had been slightly damaged but enough so that is may not be fixable....So as a consequence I am only in need of the Urethane Bumper... In fact I just heard from my body guy today that the final paint was applied to my car today.....So we are getting close..... Good Luck MAX

I discovered that if you put that URL into Google it will translate it for you. A couple weeks ago I tried to contact those guys to get a price and availability on the urethane front bumper but I haven't heard anything back from them... MAX

European Tail Lights
Thanks DatsunZGuy, That is exactly what I needed...So as I read from the instructions, it appears that both openings behind each red lense should be of dual filament and will be the running and brake lights. MAX

European Tail Lights
Greetings All, Does anyone have wiring instructions for the European Tail Lights...? There are openings for 2 bulbs, one on each end, of the red lense sectiion. Should both these bulbs be dual filiment for both the tail (running lights) and brake lights? I know the amber section is for the turn signal. And the clear section is for the backup light. Many thanks

Beautiful pics of my Z :)
Greetings DatsunZsRule, Thanks for the info about the tires. I'll check out those Traction TAs for sure. Yes, I'm anxious to get my 73 240Z back from the body shop and get those Panasports and new tires on it and hit some curves. And by the way......You may want to check out the local Z club (ZOOM) "Z Owners of Minnesota" . The car show was announced in their monthly flyer... The web site is http://www.zownersofmn.org/ Maybe we'll see you at the July 11 meeting in Minnetonka. Good Luck

Beautiful pics of my Z :)
Hey KDMatt Yes, I was at the Z show at Morries but my car is still in the auto body shop getting some restoration done and a new paint job....Hopefully I will have it back this summer and can get out and about in it yet this year....

Beautiful pics of my Z :)
Great looking babe you have there....Now that you have her all dolled up you need to take her out. Morrie's Nissan had a Z car show this past weekend, that would have been a great place to show off your baby..... I too just recently bought a set of Panasport wheels (15") and am still trying to select a set of tires. What do you think of those Traction TAs that you just bought...What size are they? And what led you to select that particular one? I have been considering Michelin Exhalto A/S and Yokohama Avid H4s. I am also considering going with size 205/65-15. I'm from Minnetonka, MN . Where abouts do you live in MN.

Michelin Tires
Has anyone had any experience or knowledge of the new Michelin Exalto A/S performance tires? I'm leaning towards these tires (205/65-15) for my 240Z but am I just throwing good money away on the Michelins when another brand will be just as good. Any recommendations on a performance tire. I don't plan to be racing my Z. thanks

Tire selection help please
Hey Guys, I see that Michelin has just come out with a new high performance all season tire, the Exalto Pilot A/S. Does anyone know anything about these new tires? Has anyone had any experience with them?

Tire selection help please
thanks for your feedback ZIII. I think I will go with the Yokahama H4 tires of size 205/65-15.

Tire selection help please
I'm in the same boat in regards to looking for new tires. I'm considering going to a set of 205/65-15 tires on my 73 240Z and wondering if anyone can comment on the fit. In my search I came across a tire survey done by The Tire Rack that has proven helpful in trying to decide on the manufacturer. The Yokohama Avid V4 and H4 were rated the 1st and 3rd respectively in this survey. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=HPAS I just visited a local store, The Discount Tire Company today and they quoted me a price of $74 per tire on the H4. I also found the tire calculator on the Miata web site helpful: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html Good Luck

240Z Deck Lid Spoiler

gas tank
I restored my gas tank on my 73 240Z using the POR 15 supplies to clean and seal the inside. The POR 15 worked very well except I wasn't careful enough and I got the supply like clogged with the sealer. And now I don't know how to remedy this? Any ideas . It appears that the supply line may be brazed to the outside wall of the gas tank. Is that true ? Does anyone know? And can one heat this and remove the entire supply line for clearing the clog.???? I also used the POR 15 stuff to redo the outside of the tank and it looks better than new. thanks Randy

240z tires
I'm considering the same thing. I'm looking at Panasport 15" all silver wheels with 205/60-15 , 205/65-15, or 215/60-15 tires.

Look what was hiding!!!!!!
If you haven't yet, you may want to check out their web site. www.por15.com. The rumors about it being hard to get off are not rumors. After that stuff cures, it is very hard but yet quite pliable. And no solvent will take it off either. I have had some on my hands all week and it eventually wears off. It was a small job over the weekend and I was too lazy to put on the gloves. Good luck
