71 240 with 350 Chevy
Hey Guys, Just bought a beautiful v8 Z that i have question about. When i was driving home i stopped at the store (after about 15 minutes of driving hard). When I came out the car had power but would not start (had to push start it). The only thing that i could figure is that the starter got really hot and for some reason this kept the car from starting. Anyone ever heard of that? The reason i say this is because after i got home, I let the car cool down, she started right up several times since (only driven round the block a few times). Any clues out there? Anyway taking pictures soon, this is a georgous car can't wait to show it. Thanks.

Waterspots
Does anyone know of any good ways to get out water spots on ones paint. Owner before me left car by srinklers every morning and there are bad water spots on a decent paint job. I have used rubbing compound, but to no avail. Is there a brand better tnah others? Would a wet sand work here? Please help!

Converting Interior (White to Black)
Painting the panels is a good option. I did this myself (white to black) and it worked very well. Just make sure you clean the panels with a good detergent and then prep it with a vinyl/plastic spray on prep (available at any auto store). Be careful pulling out the panels, they will break easy. April 6th Zcar meet in NorCal
just in case anyone in this area is interested, I thought I would post this. Came from another site, my apologies Mike, my loyalties lie here though. Bay Area Z Car/Datsun Meet in Rio Vista! It is official, car show/BBQ/swap meet in Rio Vista! The date: Saturday, April 6th. The Time: 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM The Location: Rio Vista Muffler on Airport Rd. The owner’s father raced 240Z's in the '70's and won at Daytona and other tracks--he will be there with his heavily modified street Z. He is also bringing LOTS (read 30 years collecting) of Z car parts to sell. Please feel free to bring your extras to sell or swap. The shop’s three lifts will be available to all; just take a ticket and get in line (the idea here is inspection and photos, not wrenching). Eric Neyerlin (Zparts) will be there to shoot the whole thing, and pictures will be posted on his site for all you who can't make it. The meet’s emphasis is on modified '70-'78 Z cars, but all are welcome including 510's, Roadsters, and the like. We have arranged to accommodate about 100 cars. Please be advised that most of the parking lot is gravel and dirt, so no burnouts allowed! J The BBQ will be hotdog/hamburger/chips/soda $5 Directions to Rio Vista Rio Vista is at the intersection of Hwy 12 and the Sacramento River in the heart of the California delta. The site of the meet is Rio Vista Muffler, 1105 Airport Rd. >From the Bay Area: The easy way: Take 880 north to 80 east to Fairfield. Or, 680 north to 80 east to Fairfield. From Fairfield take Hwy 12 east 24 miles to Rio Vista. The scenic way: Take 680 or 80 north to Hwy 4 east. In Antioch Hwy 4 turns north and becomes Hwy 160. Take Hwy 160 north over the Antioch bridge and continue 12 miles north to Hwy 12 west (left turn). Cross the Rio Vista Bridge and you’re there. Hwy 160 is the levy road that follows the Sacramento River. Come prepared, the Carquinez, Benicia, and Antioch bridges each require a $2 toll to cross north. Going home is free. >From Sacramento: The easy way: Take Hwy 5 or 99 south to Hwy 12 west. Rio Vista is 17 miles west of Hwy 5. Cross the Rio Vista Bridge and you’re there. The scenic way: Take Hwy 160 south out of West Sacramento. Or Hwy 5 or 99 south to Twin Cities Rd. west to Hwy 160 south. Follow the signs and stay on 160 south to Hwy 12 west. You will cross several bridges. Cross the Rio Vista Bridge and you’re there. Hwy 160 is the historic highway through the delta and is a beautiful drive. Be advised it is not the place to practice your high speed driving. It is a two-lane levy road for most of the way with little to no run-off room. Lush farmland is on one side and the Sacramento River on the other. Crosses that dot the road in several places give testimony to its unforgiving nature. Don’t be afraid. Just take it easy and enjoy the scenery and you’ll have a great time. Once in Rio Vista: If you got there by crossing the Rio Vista Bridge: Take the very first right immediately after the bridge. This will put you on River Rd. going north. Take the first left onto Airport Rd. Rio Vista Muffler is about ½ mile up on the left. If you got there from Fairfield: Slow to 35mph as you drive through town. Take the last right hand turn before getting on the bridge. The Rio Sands Motel will be on your right and Able Chevrolet will be on your left. Turn left on N. Front St. then right on River Rd. Take the first left onto Airport Rd. Rio Vista Muffler is about ½ mile up on the left.

Blatant (*) kissing
2Many, I agree, the reason I choose to spend most of my time at this site is, 1-people answer your questions quickly and with good knowledge and 2- I like the fact that everyone is closer as a group (even if ya do live in a place called Woodstock:D) I think if people want to donate GREAT, if not that's cool as well. I would like the oppertunity to buy a hat or a shirt just because it would make me feel more a part of "our club", and that it would help this site would just be a bonus. I believe whatever happens Mike will truly be greatful for any help he receives. The fact that we are even having this discussion should make Mike feel good about what a great job he has done and that we all care about the great site that it is. Now back to our regulrly scheduled program. Zlish

I agree with Rat, Mike if you need any help with ANYTHING please let us know! Can we write MSA or others to find out if they would be interested in sponsorship etc.... I think they would benifit greatly by being on this site (which by the way is the best Z site for info around). This is a great resorce for everyone, including those who love to give info to us newbies to the Z world! Mike thanks again for all of your hard work (and to others as well)! Zlish:cool:

Clocks???
O.K., what is the deal with clocks anyway, why do they always break?? I really don't even need it. Are there any suggestions for a different gauge to go in it's place? Something useful? I was hoping someone would know why they are always failing. Thanks, Zlish:(

BAD NEWS-Help!!
Thanks all! I think I will rent an engine puller and just get the whole engine compartment done correctly! Better now than more damage later, thanks again for advice, Zlish

BAD NEWS-Help!!
Well I was trying to find a leak (from inside engine compartment to passenger pan), while i was looking I found a pen sized rust hole behind my battery near the wheel well. I know people who can weld (cheaply) but I am notsure how to proceed. One of the first things I would like to do is pull the engine (for working room and might as well rust proof and paint it now), i am a newbie when it comes to mechanics, are there detailed instructions anywhere that I can follow to pull an engine? Once that is done any suggestions to attack my damage? I am bummed!! The rest of the battery tray looks fine. Suggestions?????? Thanks, Zlish:tapemouth :tapemouth :tapemouth

They has a good article on exactly how to prepare for AutoX and other links. Did you decide on a car yet? That other site I told you about has some pretty nice cars! How much do you want to spend?See ya out there, Zlish

spring sets
XYZ, The guy who previously owned my car cut the stock springs on my car, (1/2 coil front, 1 coil in the rear) the cut ends were then heated and reshaped to give my Z a 2" drop all the way around. Handles great, looks cool ( you really can't tell that easy) and is a little less expensive trick (if you know someone that can do the work). Good Luck, Zlish
