Diff
The oil would be black and burnt. The diff was getting so hot it would boil the oil and blow the vent out and throw oil everywhere. I was black flagged for the smoke. The diff cover would be almost blue. Would a half shaft putting too much pressure on gears cause this? We will have to get it on a lift and really check things out. The first diff had a noise and we thought it might be a bad diff but the other diff sounded good when we first put it in. An hour later it was howling and blow oil out also... Thanks for the input guys. Julius

Diff
We had an endurance race this past weekend (LeMons) and our 180 diff was running hot and failed. We switch another 180 in it's place and within 20 laps was getting hot and starting whining. We where using Red Line MTL 70W80 oil. Is this oil to light for racing? We also have dropped driver’s floor ~3 inches and installed a front spoiler, would this block enough air to make it get hot? We have another race in a couple of months and are scratching our heads. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Julius

Rev Limiter
I am building a 73 240Z on the cheap and looking for a cheap rev limiter. Has anyone used a cheap rev limiter on the Z cars? I can't spend the $$$ on a new ignition. I will be using the ZX dist. Thanks for any help.

How would you build a DSP AUTO-X Z
What about a ZX? Would it be too heavy?

Lemons/ChumpCar
Thought I would ask you guys for some help. We are building a 73 240Z for LeMons/ChumpCar and would like to know about doing things for endurance racing. Head gasket: Is there one better than others? Do we need to baffle oil pan?? I would think so. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, JM

280 ZX in STR class
OK guys would like some feed back. SCCA Solo is creating a new ST class called STR. It is a street tire class created for roadsters. I have an 83 280ZX I would like to build for this class. Class rules: Max wheel size 9†with 255 tire, no rolling or flares, can roll lip. No internal engine work but can do add-ons with cat. Any LSD. My thoughts: I might be able to fit 245’s all the way around, could go staggered but couldn’t rotate. Will have to go to 17’s to get competitive tires in these sizes, looking at cheap, light wheels, yeah I know, doesn’t exist…OK looking for light wheels. Thinking maybe larger throttle body, would triples give me more? I thought management system but with no internal add-ons don’t think I would gain enough for price. Larger cc injectors?? Remember no cam or valve work. Headers with performance cat with 2.5†exhaust. LSD, would disk be better than Quaife in autox? Suspension in open, will go with coil-overs and plates on front, anyone know spring rates for a ZX? MSA has some rear camber kits. I am looking for suggestions or improvements. Thanks,
