Ok hate to be devils advocate here but -if I were you and dint wanna spend a lot of $$ I would get a good used set up -and a re-built stock dist. ( if you can swing it )and a good factory coil and module ect.. se where im going -accel coil is junk ,a fresh stock ignition will run a street car very very well. ive got 2 68 firebirds -with points -yes points !! and have seen some of my friends with problems using MSD stuff, accel ect.. If you buy the Gm hei and it doesnt work -youll be out some $$ and really frustrated.
  2. Hey Im glad someone on this board got it! I wanted to buy it but I just picked up my 73 2 weeks before had I not ( i would have tryed to buy it)I really liked that car!! please e-mail me let me know all the good and hopefully -no bad-thats the nicest Z ive seen In a long time
  3. HI well I got my Z I love the car ,Its a 73z and it rides hard it hasnt been modified my guess is --neglected-- any way ,Springs and strut combo I want to maintain orig ride height or higher ( dont want to lower) and most of all a soft ride I dont care about the handeling at all ,and hey tire suggestions too -I looking for a good combo that will give me the softest ride thanks

So -ok See See factory stuff aint so bad after all you made the right move! basically you were floodin the thing with the cool looking solex carbs now your all set glad to hear it and hey for what its worth I like the SU sound --
  5. Hey for what its worth the price seems good to me --Im on the east coast so any Z that has minimal rust looks good to me -- had to pay a bit more than 3100.00 to get myself a nice 73 240 in comprable condtion and if us east coast guys want a calif car thats IN CALIF WE GO TO PAY A LOT OF $$$ to haul it back. If it has solid floors -rockers framerails ect .. and a good body the preformance stuff bolts on -consider this --a car thats been modified to go fast -has -you know what i mean -those cars have been driven hard ---better to get one unmodified in my opinion

Oh well the good thing (or bad I guess ) is yep it has the flat tops runs great though so-if it starts to run like $^!# ill change em out -the good part is its very original-- flat tops and even the factory am/fm -ect in other words not screwed with thats a good thing and yes I cant wait to drive it -and bear in mind i own 2 68 firebirds and one is a factory ramair car --
  9. pontiacguy posted a post in a topic in Help Me !!
No I dont think they added any extra emmissions for calif. from what ive seen they just made it work for all of the usa at that time -in other words -all cars would pass calif emissions and every other state calif cars arnt worht any more than texas cars or N.J cars rust free is rust free -hey im curious tell me more about your car in restoration -Id love to here about it ---71datsunZ

Oh-- ok the vin # is HLS30141143 its a 1973 Z I dont think im gonna see a cat ,but ill definietly look of course the over all condition is the most important think if its solid i dont care where it came from ive looked at a lot of em theyre all too rusty some more than others so we shall see about this one gonna see it on saturday oh it does have the flat top carbs but hey if it runs good im not gonna change em--did they put air pumps on Z's in calif in 73?
  14. Hey-- for what its worth you west coast guys have a big advantage over us east coast guys ! Im in massachusetts--- for me to get a calif Z to my door step with current fuel prices at least 2 grand taked on top of the selling price -----
  15. pontiacguy posted a post in a topic in Help Me !!
Thanks -I <<am>> concerned with the condition ,having owned countless rusty and non rusty pontiacs ( and others )over the years . I know what to look for as far as rust (I work in a body shop) having not owned a Z before ,I was just wondering if there was something I could look for that was particular to a 73 calif Z you guys are right on all counts-- I myself have seen rusty calif cars ( and very rust free new england cars ) and BTW dessert sand is very bad too thanks for your posts I apprieciate all the advise--keep it coming

Looking at a 73z ,it was supposed to be a calif car, they have no old documentation -so -besides the obvious any earmarks I should look for that are typical to 73 sold in calif ? All help will be much appreciated thanks

Hey everyone Im looking at a 1973 240z on the east coast it was supposed to be from California they have no old documentation to support the fact -i.e smog certifiactes ,titles, registrations ect any way to tell or verify this based on the cars vin # ??

Exactly what RIP260Z said he's dead on right. Sorry for the american "iron" anaolgy in my last posts ---i was trying to say what rip260z in a long winded way the same basic principles apply when setting up a carb/carbs for any engine
  19. pontiacguy posted a post in a topic in Help Me !!
Ok to clear it up I meant to say if you want to use the "solex "carbs they need to be rebuilt to suit your application --meaning there not original for your Z so they were meant to run some other motor --theyre jetted -rodded and the idle system is set up to run what they (the solexcarbs) were intended to run--My long winded point put simply if you took a tri power set up from a 66 pontiac gto threw( god only knows how ) it on a plymouth with a slant 6 it aint gonna work too well --see what i mean
  20. pontiacguy posted a post in a topic in Help Me !!
Ok for what its worth --i know rochesters not solex --but -but --what i would do if i had your trouble is this find out exactly what carb set up came on your Z from the factory ( assuming your engine is all stock meaning -not re built with hot rod mods (like big cams ect..) find these carbs (used)and the proper intake if needed (not sure) send them to a quality carb rebuilder -try the "carb shop "in orange calif -these guys are great with carbs--- get em back-- have your mech. bolt em on set em up thats it -problem with preformance carbs is that --simply-- if your engine isnt set up to take em they dont work- big jets, too much fuel, incorrect floats, incorrect idle system, ect ect.. other wise if you wanna use the solex's you got- youd have to re build them to the proper specs to run your stock engine -in other words theyre too big!! biggers not always better --thats why "preformance "carbs dont always preform ---wrong application. The factory engineered the stock carbs to match the engine -hope this helps

Im looking at a green '72z (see my other posts) it has a rust color interior but whats unusual is that the tops of the seats-- back and the base --are white and the sides are rust color. The car was originaly sold in alaska is this a custum job or factory?? just curious
  25. Ok well its had a drivers side floor from owner before the one selling it ,hole fixed in battery try area rust hole fixed in rear quarter around gas cap area he sent more pic,s before I go look the one thing that concers me is the dogleg area when you zoom in it looks like rust coming thru and the quoater isnt flush with the rocker panel in other words looks like this joint is weak and or rusted or overlaid
