  1. I agree, I used calipers to measure and I realize that the measurement can be off some but even if you cut the difference in half. Looking at the female latch there is a difference but the relative position to the mounting bolts is pretty much the same. I will give it some more thought. Robert
  2. Hello, I am currently in the process of disassembling my early, 12/73, 260Z and I have run into a concern I want to understand or correct before I remove the hood. Currently, after pulling the hood latch from inside the car I am then required to use a stiff plastic squeegee to pop the hood open. I place the squeegee between the cowl and the hood and apply what I consider to be a large amount of force to get the hood to pop up. Once that happens I then need to squeeze the male hood latch to its full extent and snatch up on the hood. I have adjusted both latches to their full amount of travel to release the pressure and at this point if I adjust the hood forward then it would just make the condition worse. Hood alignment with the fenders and the cowl are good. The operation of both the female and male latches appears to be normal. I am not the original owner but I am starting to suspect that the car may have taken a punch to the nose. No evidence at this point but I am trying to understand what is causing this binding issue. I do have a yellow 5/71 240Z for reference and the hood latch system works just fine. I did look at both latch systems and noticed a difference between the two. The yellow 240Z female latch looks different than the green 260Z female latch. See pictures. I quickly reviewed a couple of sites online and it appears that the same latch should be used from 70-78, correct? Also, I quickly measured the distance from the firewall(see pictures) of the latch catch on both cars. Appears to be a difference of .200 inch which may explain the binding issue. Is there a difference between the latches on an earlier model Z and a later model Z? Thanks for your input. Robert
  3. Yeah no problem with a 260. I have an E74 and other than the bumpers sticking out further I like it just as much as the other. Nice find and enjoy the ride. Robert

I believe there is some truth to that. I cannot find it in my notes right now but I believe the Nissan Pickup bushings are correct size. The pin will need to have modifications made to it. Here is a link that I found with a google search. Read down through it for some part numbers. In the thread it talks about GM door hinge kit. My memory says Nissan Pickup but it has been many years. Its basically the same thing though. Hope it helps. http://www.nwde.org/extras/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3605&PN=1 Robert Ok I find my notes just after posting this thread. My notes match what "HainZ" list further down the thread I provided a link to. I used the NAPA kit that was for a Nissan PU.
  5. That is going to look nice madkaw. I have a long way to go and I am wishing I was that close.

As another option check with Crutchfiled. Seems they had several retro sound options and may have some remote options also.

Chuck, I am either going Maxima or chevy alternator. Below are two links that will get you started on your way. I have not found a write up on how to do the 260Z. Since mine does not have an electric fuel pump it should not be hard to switch. Well thats my thoughts and I am sticking to it. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5996&highlight=alternator+swap http://datsunzgarage.com/engine/

, Its funny and sad. Had the car for 4 years and its in decent shape body wise. Want to repaint but I am the type that wants it done right. That includes strip down, fix the rust (minor at this point) and an awesome paint job. Sad part is since getting it I have not had much time to do anything except charge the baqttery every other month. Seriously I do not see where most Z heads find the time.

Thanks Jeff. I will do a search on the internal conversion in a bit. If you know of a link please post. Maxima or GM does not matter to me but cheap sounds good and with the GM alternator it will be easier down the road to find repalcement as needed. Again thanks as I have been a member a while but have not posted here before. Luckily I was being asked to sit and watch a boring "hate the man" channel romantic film. Jeeze! ANyway picked up the laptop and was breeing through the sites when I came across this thread. Later. Robert

Joho, I am interested in this also as I have an E74 260Z. Would like to swap it to a chevy alternator if possible. Hopefully someone will have the answer. Robert
