  1. I bought an S2000 early this year. I am 6'-4" and I fit pretty well. There is a mod for getting about 1-2" of headroom. I was considering some of the cars on your list as as well. I sat in the RX-8 and recall it being pretty tight. I guess the best advice is to just drive them and take notes and buy the one you like the best.

Anyone see Jeremy wearing the Datsun Z car shirt on Top Gear? I thought it was pretty cool (that he was representing Z cars more so than the shirt). Zack

I hope to be there next year, but somehow I think I may not make it again. It's too bad since I don't live that far away (kind of). Have fun.

Beaverton is actually an American Indian word meaning 'yellow Z car'.

You probably need to remove your valve cover and make sure get the mechanical time at top-dead-center. Once you know that, the mark should be easy to see and you can make it more visible by filing or marking it. To be sure you are at TDC you can remove the #1 spark plug and see that the piston is at the top of it's travel (or you can stick a wire tie in there to feel it). When you are at top-dead-center the dizzy rotor should be pointed toward the front of the car. Your correct timing mark should not be easy to find. I think it takes a 27mm or 1 1/8" socket to turn the engine crank. When you check the timing, you need to have the engine warmed up and remove the vac advance (or just pinch it off. Ha...pinch it off) Good luck.

I'd go with the far right.
  7. Yeah, you can get some from www.blackdragonauto.com. They have most sizes. Just make sure you order the correct ones (dished or not dished).
  8. I had the exact same problem with mine. I can't remember how far I could adjust it somewhere around 0BTDC or maybe 5BTDC. No matter what I did I could not properly adjust the timing. I'm wondering if I put the oil pump/distributor drive gear on backwards. Whatever was/is wrong my car runs great. I just dropped the oil pump and turned the distributor until the rotor lined up with one of the "points" and moved my #1 plug wire to that point and the other wires around as necessary. Again, I don't suggest this, but good luck. P.S. I think I made the first post of the new year!
  9. This has nothing to do with the timing chain since the distributor is driven directly from the crank.

Bruce, I think I bid on the car in your avatar on ebay. If it's the same one, how did it turn out?
  11. If the tensioner did come out you should have heard a 'pop' sound when you first pulled the sprocket. If it is the tensioner, I would expect that you will have to take off the timing cover. Good luck. PS This has happened to me too and I wasted my time trying to 'realign' the tensioner. Once it's out, it will be extremely difficult to get back in.
  12. My, my. Hey, Hey. Thanks for the info. By the way, it's better to burn out than it is to rust.
  13. In this zhome article http://zhome.com/History/DesignChanges.htm The lowest VIN titles as a '71 is claimed to be 006072. Well, I have 005657 and it's titled as a '71. Not that it adds much to the discussion, but hey, I have the lowest VIN '71 240 (at least until someone comes around with a lower one).

P.P.S. I was in the second group, but the first group had already finished (about 30 cars) and most likely that time wasn't beaten by much.

I need to buy a gas cap for a '70 240Z. It doesn't need to be original, but it needs to fit. I saw that MSA has them for $54, but that seems a little high. Does anyone have one or know where I can find one? P.S. I left from Chattanooga, TN and drove to Birmingham at 4AM last week and filled up on the way out. I must have left the gas cap off in a sleepy stupor (or maybe it was stolen, doubtful. yeah that's it. it was stolen.). I noticed it when I got to the 'Speedsouth Solo Shootout' event and since I had right at half a tank, I figured no gas would slosh out, so I just used a rubber band and a plastic bag and voila, a makeshift gas cap. Well, Gas did slosh out and I was disqualified since it is impossible to find a gas cap for a 240Z. I really wish I could have competed. The course was very long. The fastest time when I left was 85.xxx. I know I would have done fairly well. But there's always next month and I will definitely be there with a gas cap.

push in clutch - disengage gear - let off clutch - push in clutch - engage next gear. That's about all I can explain, and I don't know the benefit. I have read about it somewhere before.
  18. I had this same problem, but for some reason I could not get it to line up. No matter what I tried. So I ended up turning the oil pump until the dizzy rotor lined up with one of the points. I moved the plugwires two points clockwise. Maybe it's a little mickey mouse, but it works fine. I'm telling you this because if you have the tang pretty close (say 15-20 degrees off) then moving it one notch will put it at the far range in the other direction and it will be impossible to adjust the timing correctly. I do not know why this happened to me, but I haven't had any problems moving the plugwires. I can elaborate more if necessary. Hopefully it won't be necessary.
  19. Good luck. Sblake may be right. Try the tips you've been given here (and whatever else you want) and if that doesn't work replace the carbs.
  20. If you are running rich, your exhaust should have some color to it. You can also pull your spark plugs and if they are very sooty, you are probably running rich. If you are running very rich, your car should start easily without any choke while cold. I had all of these symptoms when mine was running rich. I have my idle mixture set at 1 turn (360deg/turn). Originally it was set at 2 turns. Now it is difficult to start without the choke and it is running much better. The exhause smells better. I pulled the plugs and they are pretty clean. Everything is better. Good luck.

Boogieman, Sorry to beat up on you, but you did get the information you needed. None of us could resist. Welcome to the forum. It is a wealth of information. I have managed to replace most of the suspension and drivetrain and done some electrical work on my Z. This site was very helpful. Please do not be offended by our tongue-in-cheek remarks.
  22. I recommend the kit from ZTherapy. I did mine (with a cheaper kit, basically replaced the seals only). Before I did them I had zero experience. They are working well at the moment and I think that as long as you are organized you should be ok. Just do them one at a time. That way you don't mix up the parts and you can use the other as a go-by. I also recommend the video from ZTherapy. You can do it without it, but it really helps, especially if you are new to SUs. Good luck.

Any time you refill the dizzy fluid you are also supposed to check the blinker fluid. It also helps to remove any loose nuts behind the wheel at this time.
  24. I think common sense would tell you to put the threaded end down. That way if for some crazy reason the nut falls off the pin doesn't fall out.
  25. VB is not overseas. They are in Kansas. At least I think we're in Kansas, um, anymore.
