  1. Tool bag sold to a CZC member...found a good home.
  2. Hello All. My name is Gary. I used to post here quite a bit, having owned a '71 240-Z for about a decade (sold about 18 months ago). I found this forum incredibly helpful, and at times would see (and occassionally make) posts alerting forum members to 240-Z specific ebay auctions. I have decided to move some of the Z parts I collected, a number of which are currently listed on ebay. Some of the most interesting are: 1. Set of 4 Series 1 "D" hubcaps with original steel wheels. http://www.ebay.com/itm/151660527039?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 2. Vintage Recaro SE seats and 240-Z mounting brackets / sliders. I set these items up as two separate auctions. a. Recaro SE seats http://www.ebay.com/itm/151661200676?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 b. Brackets / sliders / adaptors to mount Recaro Seats in a 240-Z. http://www.ebay.com/itm/151661216392?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Soon to come: OEM 240-Z door panels - new OEM toolkit - still in bag (SOLD) http://www.ebay.com/itm/151662259063?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  3. Hi Brian. The original Bridgestone spare that I have is a 175 HR 14. 195/70 14 is very close to the same height. I'm attaching several photos. One compares the height of the two tires (with the 175 HR 14 being just slightly taller). The other two just show the tire sizes. My 195/70 14 is a Sumitomo HTR H4 mounted on a 14 x 6 Libre, the Bridgestone is mounted on a stock steel wheel. For what it's worth, if you do search on Tire Rack for a 1971 Datsun 240Z specifies 195/70 14 as original equipment size. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/SelectTireSize.jsp?autoMake=Datsun&autoModel=240Z&autoYear=1971&autoModClar= You will find that Arne's recommendations are typically very accurate. Gary
  4. Thanks Steve. p.s. I think you'd make a fine moderator! Gary
  5. Question for you Walter - Where did you get your antenna drain line grommet, and do you have a part number? Thank you, Gary
  6. Interesting...so now it's for sale on Portland craigslist, described as "ONE OWNER" in title, for $8000, but "CASH IS KING MAKE ME A OFFER". http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/2466465822.html Gary S.
  7. The gray paint is available from Les Cannaday at Classic Datsun Motorsports...click here http://www.classicdatsun.com/ Then click on "240Z Parts", then click on "Misc". You'll see a page with three colors available in rattle cans - Air Cleaner Orange, Nissan Engine Blue, and rear panel / hubcap gray. Gary S.
  8. There have been two recent Z car auctions on ebay that I put on my Watch List, as I wanted to see where they would end up price wise. The first, linked here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330550557206&viewitem=&hsspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT had 20 plus bidders and exceeded the reserve of $17,500 in the first few days. The next time I checked back, the auction had ended prematurely with the seller's explanation "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available." The second auction was a similar situation. Unkle, I suspect when you say that's the game now, at least in some cases, you are absolutely spot on. Gary S.
  9. This car is also listed for sale on CZC member esprist's website. http://jdm-car-parts.com/category/8-cars-for-sale/ I cannot say if esprist is also the ebay seller. My assumption is that he is. If so, he is extremely knowledgeable about Z's, and is very active in the Z community. (If you look around that website, you'll see what I mean.) Most recently he started a thread on this site on reproduction parts he is having made - http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?41915-Reproduction-parts-for-240Z-Check-these-out! Gary S. The auction does say "Before anything, part of the money for this auction goes to Tsunami Relief Fund in Japan." I'd be curious to know how the donation part is structured. Perhaps the car is valued at 20K plus, and anything over that is to be considered a charitable donation?
  10. Tim, hello. So I did a quick google search for "diamond cutting wire colorado springs", and came up with a number of listings for Diamond Wire Material Technologies. Is this your employer? Can you provide more info. on what you used specifically, and if it's available to the general public? Thanks, Gary S.
  11. Sarah and Bruce, thanks for your replies. Don't know for sure. I do remember it sounding like it came from the engine bay as opposed to the exhaust, and thinking "ouch, that can't be good for the rings on that cylinder". Suddenly, no sputtering. Should be clean back there, recently installed and not too many miles since. But worth a check. Wow, that really is sensitive...and frustrating! Gary S.
  12. This past Saturday I got to drive my Z (1971 240-Z) a fair bit. During the winter I try and pick a clear day with dry roads to give the car some exercise about once a month. I drove about 30 miles at highway speeds, then another 5 in city traffic. I shut the car down for about 15 minutes, then went back to it to resume errands. It started just fine, I pulled into traffic in first, then second...than a loss of power. I coasted into a parking lot, popped the hood and checked for loose wires (didn't see any). Got back in and turned it over, and it started. Drove about 2 more miles and the same thing happened again, and again I pulled to a stop, hit the starter, and off it went again. About 1/2 mile farther down the road, at about 30 mph, it died again. This time, I took the car out of gear, pressed in the clutch, and hit the ignition. It started, but it also gave a loud backfire. I'm not the greatest at troubleshooting and diagnosis. My first inclination is to suspect something electrical. I have done the 280ZX / E12-80 dist. swap, and I thought maybe the module was unhappy, or one of my heat shrink solder connections for the distributor wiring is loose. This is probably the longest time I have driven the car in the past 4 months or so, and it was up to full operating temp. Anyone have a direction to point me in for troubleshooting? Thanks, Gary S.
  13. Yes Herb, duly noted and edited in the previous post. Nice car, BTW. Gary
  14. Hello Steve. The exterior / interior color combo is an interesting question. I remember back in 2006, there was a fellow who had his car at Canby, and Arne snapped a picture of it. Here is that photo: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=21389 The car pictured was for sale at the time. One owner. Again, according to the zhome chart, this 1973 (115 Blue exterior) should have had beige (off white) interior). But the original owner stated that the car came with a black interior. Might this be the case with the 1972 white also? oemz, what is the build month / year? on the door jamb i.d. plate? Also, just out of curiousity, is all the glass in the repaired vicinity Nissan glass? And what's in the trunk for a spare? Gary S.
  15. Cripes Leonard, Unfinished projects, I'm not even going to go there. The important thing is...YOU GET BETTER! You're in my thoughts, and I want to see those pics in April or May (but I'd rather see you and the car in person!!). Gary S.
