  1. Sounds like a great show. Great artwork on the banner too. I've always loved the 74 Celica GT. I think I'll plan a business trip the Friday before and have the company pick up the tab for the flight.

Hey don't complain, shag is "period correct"...
  3. As entertaining as this is, I think it's time to close this thread...

Welcome to the club. Not too may ragtop conversions out there. Can't wait to see some pics.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on getting you Z home. You've certainly come to the right place for information. Where did you get your Z from and is that a "euro" style balance tube I see there? I wish I had one of those instead of the spaghetti like mess I have on my California Spec 73' 240Z.
  6. I'm sorry to hear about your present situation. I hope that things turn around for you or that you find a way to keep your Z. I too am worried what will happen if I should lose my job or if the company has to make further cuts. I've already had to take a minor pay cut in the form of a quarterly work furlough, and hope that this is the extent of the cuts. That said, we had a strong 2nd quarter and hope that we can keep up the momentum. For what it's worth, certain sectors of the economy seem to be making a slow comeback. Fortunately for me information technology sales (or in my case network security) is one of them.

Sadly, there's not much consolidated info out there on the 260Z, just bits and pieces here and there since it was only sold for a single year here in the states before the 280Z was introduced. However, it was sold extensively outside NA for many years in place of the 280Z which (if I recall correctly) was only sold in NA. Note that there's an FSM for download over at www.xenon.com but it's missing the first 3 sections where all the specs are normally listed. There's also an 260Z FSM for sale on eBay right now and that's something that you definitely should grab if you don't have one. I would imagine that they're fairly hard to come by. A few differences that I'm aware of purely from memory are the Engine: same bore as L24 but with a longer stroke to increase displacement, Distributor: Changed from points to early electronic ignition, Carbs: Hitachi flat-tops like the 73 had, Intake Manifold: N36 intake manifold thought by many to flow better than earlier versions, Balance tube: same/similar to the 73, not sure here, Air Cleaner: same/similar to the 73, Bumpers: early 260Zs had the same bumpers as the 73 but changed to the 280Z style later in the production run. Center console: looks like the 280Z style but I'm no expert on either, Door Panels: center insert different w/wider accent strip than 240Z chrome strip, Diamond pattern on tranny hump, rear deck face and rear shock towers changed (smaller diamonds). Some don't appear to have any diamond pattern on the rear towers, Tail lights: new to 74. Same as 280Z? Front turn signals: changed on late model 260Z. Location moved from lower valence to grill area, Paint: new colors introduced. Leaf Green Metallic, Gold and Lt. Blue Metallic come to mind but there may have been others as well. That's all I can think of at the moment.
  8. We do have some sticky's but there are probably several threads that should be made sticky's. Feel free to make suggestions to the admins if you see any that you feel are worthy. Most of us just use the search feature to find what we want but sticky's are definitely useful.

I can't speak with authority on the 260Z butterscotch interior, but my 73 240Z came with black carpets as can be seen in the purchase pics in my Gallery. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/album.php?albumid=108 I found the following thread with pics of a purported 260Z interior with tan carpet. The seat covers are probably not stock but from what I can see of the door panels they appear to be stock. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=13299&d=1153567914
  10. Have you checked to ensure that you are getting adequate duel supply? Check all fuel filters for clogs and rust scale. If you find a lots of rust, you may need to clean your fuel tank. You'll find a fuel filters near the on the right fenderwell, a screen filter in the fuel inlet at the carbs, and if you have a stock electric fuel pump, there's a paper filter element in there as well, and if you or the PO have added any others check those as well.
  11. What the hell kind of comment is that? If this is how you feel, why are you even here?
  12. Sounds like fun. Wish I could be there to meet all you PNW folks. Some day...
  13. You know what, I think I have an new set of SS lines for the front and rear for a stock setup. I'm not sure if the front has banjo fitings or not. I bought them from BlackDragon before I decided to do the brake upgrade. I'll check the stash tomorrow to see what I have, get some pics and put them up in the classified section.

Try here for the IMSA flares. I'm not sure if they're still available but it's a place to start. http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/240z.html And here's some inspiration for you: http://www.canepa.com/inventory/racecar_1/Datsun_240Z/index.html
  15. Oh snap, I would have paid more than $375 for a fresh set of Ztherapy carbs. I guess that's what I get for working instead of browsing CZC.

While not in the movies, my son and I witnessed a Z31 the other night running at high speed with lights off from 6 cops and CHPs on local city streets. I wonder if he got away or wrecked it....
  17. Sounds like you got the wrong SS lines. A banjo fitting is definitely not the right fitting for the fronts. Here's a pic of an adapter and the Goodrich SS lines I got from Ross @ www.modern-motorsports.com on my S12W vented calipers. I believe the fitting on the caliper is the same but I wouldn't swear by it. Fits like a glooooove!

  19. MSA = Motorsports Auto = www.zcarparts.com It's pretty easy to find a used set of SUs, however many of them will have work throttle shaft bushings making it nearly impossible to sync them properly. You could gamble and get lucky, but you'll need a set to trade in as a core anyway. I see them on eBay all the time for $75-$150.

The info on this site is part of the reason I'm leaning towards sticking with the P79, but it's nice to hear opinions and experiences of others. I'd love to hear yours regarding your other build.
  21. Tsk tsk tsk.......laziness is not a virtue. I'm feeling generous and know what I'm looking for so I'll do the search for you.....this time. Run a sold diff mount and you get more vibes, more noise and run the risk of developing stress cracks in the front diff diff member. Wisdom says that if you run a solid mount in front you should also run a solid in the rear. See the possible results here: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=125046. Replace the DVGs. No point in learning those when you can aquire a professionally rebuilt and re-bushed set of SUs better than new, and a video to "learn ya" for $630. http://www.ztherapy.com Can't help you with the Mallory, but my guess would be a new Mallory cap for your model of dizzy...? I run Taylor wires with my L24/280ZX dizzy/MSD6AL/Blaster/.045 gap setup and it revs to 7000 no problem, albeit not under load. I can't speak to that until I get her back on the road.

Very interesting. I was considering sticking with the P79 on my F54 build as well. I'm almost committed but Rebello feels that the N42 head has the most potential. That said, I'm not looking to take things to the max anway. I don't think they're convinced that the exhaust liners flow as well as the N42 square ports when smoothed out. One reason I'd like to stay with the P79 is so I can use my vintage Clifford 6 into 2 coated round round tube header. It's awfully purty. Yes...I'm just showing off my bling here.
  23. Smackdown at ClassicZcar.com! Let the nostalgia flow!

    huh...what? No capiche.
  25. And there you have it. You found the light among the darkness. Focus on getting the car running and safe, then enjoy it a while before you start tearing it apart to create your dream.
