It appears that that the license plate brackets on the early style 260Z front bumper are offset. Has anyone seen this before? My 73 bumper is not like this. Also, any idea what that orangeish colored plate near the EGR control valve is? Lastly, did all the US 260Z's have the evap container on the front right wheel well. I thought these didn;t come into play until the 280Z...

Well put Arne. I personally would be proud to own and drive the hell out of this car. That said, it's fairly close to what I envisioned when I started on my current project, which turned out to be a lot different than what I originally imagined. When I was ready to pull the trigger, I found the cleanest 73 I could rather than the 70 I wanted since I planned on doing a restomod. My thoughts were that I would leave the "collectibles" for those interested in doing faithful restorations. By this time I had decided that I wanted to keep the overall flavor of the original including the L6. In the end, it is really up to the owner to decide what he does with his car, collectible or not. This is obviously a really nice driver, and if I knew then what I know now about what it takes to build a car like this, I would actually consider dropping up to $25k on this one. However I believe it is much more satisfying and rewarding to build your own car the way you want it then to just go out and buy one. Hopefully this will go to someone who appreciates the history of the car and not some drifter who just beats the hell out of it.

You definitely want to use fuel rated hose for all of these hoses. I was able to order 17239-E4601 and 17235-E4601 from www.nissanparts.com. 17238-E4602 was NLA so I used (19mm or 3/4") fuel hose for this one, and 1/2" fuel hose for 17236-E4601. Sorry Ron, I know it's a painful thought and I hope I'm wrong. That said, I expect that any increased hype around the BRE look will drive up the price of a true and authorized replica so you win either way, assuming you care about the resale value. I know the Brock's won't be happy, but I'm not sure what can be done to prevent private individuals from painting their cars this way.

Interesting color scheme you've got going on there. It's different and I think I like it, assuming you are going to paint the car a in similar scheme. If you're truly commited to this, as it appears you are, I recommend painting the carbs, alternator and dizzy white as well, and the starter in blue. Finally, I think the oil pump would look better in blue, and while you're at it you may as well hit the exhaust manifold in hi-temp white too. Keep up the good work and get those fasteners plated or they'll be rusted over in no time.

Could this be a vacuum leak or some other sucking sound coming from the fuel evap cannister?

I really love the before and after pics. I wish I had that kind of sticktoitivness. Wanna do mine next? On the plating, is the finish really as bright yellow as it appears in the pics?

Assuming that the engine was otherwise cared for approptiately, I doubt there's enough wear on the rings to warrant changing them out at only 95,000 mi considering that these things will easily do 300,000. On most well cared for L6 engines you can still see the hone marks on the cylinder walls at 90,000. Depending on whether and how much the head needs to be milled, it may not be necessary to shim the cam towers and rebuild the whole head. My recommendation would be to take it to someone who knows Z engines and get a qualified opinion before throwing lots of $$$$$ at it.
