Hi, I'm new here
Congrats on your new purchase. While driving without an air cleaner is certainly a bad thing, I'd do a compression check to determine the extent of the damage. If compression is good, save your money for rust repairs since this is really the weak point of these cars. Let's see some pics as soon as you get them.

Video - Take a ride in my 510
Nice video. I haven't been on that road for over 10 years. Nice to see you out doing what that car was made for rather than letting it sit in the garage. I'll add that road to the list of roads to do once I get the beast back together.

giving up my 280Z for a BMW E39 M5?
That was a hilarious video. Nice looking car too, but definitely not a Z. I'd like one of each please. If you can swing it, that's what I'd do. Otherwise I'd just keep the Z. It has much more "flavor".

What would you take...
Looks good over all, but you'll need a spare, especially if you don't bring one, and unless the water or fuel pumps are on their last leg I wouldn't bother bringing spares. I do however always carry a spare thermostat, fuel filter, spark plug, tire repair/plug kit, upper and lower rad hoses, as well as a connector to repair splits in the smaller 3/4" hoses. Don't forget road flares, a collapsible water container or a couple gallons of water (drink or fill), a blanket and some matches. You never know where you might get stuck.

Ready for the show!
Yes, the bumperettes are upside down and probably on the wrong sides as well. Here's a pic of what they should look like. Other than that the car looks great! Hopefully we'll run into eachother some time on the near future. Are yo uplanning on going to the Blackhawk event?

Not this again!
I thought you were selling that thing and going back to school?

COSMO Racing Adjustable Coil Over Kit
Somehow that logic just doesn't sound right to me. If the two 448 lb/in springs are directly on top of each other, wouldn't they act as one spring with each actually sharing the load 50/50 as in 224/224=448? To arrive at what you're suggesting, I believe you would have to apply 448lb x 2 = 896lb.

Water in Oil, Bad Gasket?/Rebuild Bottom End?
Wow, that's pretty serious. Did Dave give you any idea what might have caused that?

Temporary Fix for Radiator Leak
Must have been a 924 or 944 cause 911s, 912s and 914s are air cooled, and the 928s go for a bit more than $1500.

Unintentional Insults
In this day and age of overcharged political correctness, I'm not at all surprised that there was at least one person who could find that innocent statement offensive. And good example or not, I see no reason for you to fall on your sword and make a public apology. Personally, I think someone needs to lighten up a bit. Life to short to sweat the small stuff.

New to Zcars Need Help
I agree with all the statements above, but it would be nice to know what's been done to the engine as well. If it's a stock longblock, it's certainly not worth as much if it's been heavily built up. Without knowing all the details it's hard to spculate as to the worth of the vehicle. Based on the asking price my guess is that he's actually looking for something in the neighborhood of $5000. Assuming there's no major rust and the engine and everything else is in good running condition, I'd lowball him at $4000 and work up from there based on my comfort level. If it were all stock in the same condition without the customized body work, it would actually be worth more. IMHO

My 1973 240z
Cool, our cars our close relatives. Taking off the bumpers will not leave huge holes, but it will definitely look a bit naked up front. Here's a link to a user's gallery who has removed both the front and rear so you can get a look. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showgallery.php?ppuser=13903&cat=500

SpareTire
Spare shmare, those are for whimps! Just kidding. I'm going to have to figure something out as well.....I'm sure the 14" spare won't fit over the brake upgrade.

My 1973 240z
Very nice. It looks like you got a good deal. Hard to say for sure without pics of the frame rails, T/C box, and battery tray area, but it looks to be in great condition. Same color inside and out as mine which has a build date of 4/73. I'm also curious how close our VINs are. Mine is listed in my signature.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Wow Kats! The S20 sounds as great as it looks, very healthy. I also looked at the US road test vids for the first time and enjoyed them almost as much as it looked like the guys enjoyed testing them. Thanks for sharing.
