I am VERY interested in hearing more about this topic from those with personal experience. What makes the Z easy to steal? What have others done to commpensate for this or correct the problems? What theft deterrent devices or practices work best for our cars? I truly believe personal experience is more valuable here than speculation so let's try to stick to that if we can.

I hate to burst your bubble or harsh your buzz, but where there's surface rust on an older Z........... Hopefully it's just that but you can read the horror stories here if you search a bit. At any rate, welcome the fray.

My God this is amazing. Based on his estimates of the time it took to complete, you would have to work for 2.83 years, 24 hours a day non-stop without any sleep. At a conservative rate of $150/hr, it would cost roughly $3,000,000 to have someone make this for you. I'd love to see a "little person" driving this thing around Hockenheim, Nurburgring, or more appropriately, Magny-Cours in France. Actually, I'd rather be that guy.

Yes, it's been almost 10 months to the day since we last heard from him on this. I hate to see cars of this caliber sit and rust away into oblivion. What a waste. I wonder how many hidden gems like this are hidden across the country. It's absolutely senseless.

Congrats Mark. I have always wanted a Porsche 911, but the ones I like are just too far out of my price range to be practical as a second car. I considered buying one prior to buying the Z, but it wasn't one of the models I really like, and I just couldn't justify the expense. I think yours look great and I love the baseball glove interior as well, but them I'm impartial. Enjoy the dream.

Note that there are fillers/solder that can be used to fill the scratches, which can then be plated over. That might allow a for a thinner copper plate and help prevent the design texture from getting filled in.

Wow! I can see now why you kept the car for so long. I'm not sure I could have parted with it either. Just curious, why the name Jeep for the dog, and did you ever figure out where your Dad was headed?

All in all it looks to be a nice car but I really hate it when ppl don't post pics of the areas that really matter to those "in the know". I believe this car has been listed on eBay once before by this owner. If not there somewhere else. The owner's comments leads one to believe that he really does not want to part with it, but it's really only "special" to him. The one thing I really like about the car is the deep dish old school wheels, and they're apparently not for sale with the car.......

I suggest that you get a cheap multimeter or test light as a start. You can get a simple multimeter for as low as $16 at Radio Shack and probably a million other places. personally I'd spend a few more dollars but if budget is a consideration this will do. Once you have that, it will be easy to check that you have 12v at the (+) positive side of the coil. If so is might be as simple as a bad high tension coil wire(coil to dizzy). if it turns out to be the combination switch, you're definitely going to need the multimeter.

Wow Gary.... Based on your statements, I'm not sure why you even own a 240Z. Perhaps it's time to trade it in for that......dare I say it.....that Honda Civic you really want. Seriously though, I'd like to see something with a similar profile with the following improvements: 1) More aerodynamic front end with enclosed sugar scoops, or something like the Porsche 928 had. 2) 3.2L L6 w/DOHC and a flow through head. Optional Turbo or TT. 3) Blunt butt similar to the Corvette but which resembles the original 240Z rear end. 4) Tilt/Telescopic steering wheel design 5) Digital guages with an analog look and feel like the new high end MBZ CL550. 6) Fully independent dual A-arm coil sprung suspension 7) 4 Wheel disk brakes with ABS 8) Standard 6spd tranny All that said, I love my car just the way it is and would not replace it with a newer one. If it came down to making a choice, I'd rather keep the original.

I'm gonna venture a guess and say that: A) The moisture in the dizzy from sitting uncovered in a the junk yard, or... It was caused by a leaking diaphram which created a vacuum condition inside the casing of the dizzy which pulled in the moist air which built up inside. I think choice A is more likely since the heat of the engine would likley evaporate moisture trapped in there faster than it could accumulate, however I guess that depends on where you live.
