Sounds like you jumped in with both feet. The 260 looks really clean. Nice find. Good luck with your projects. Here's some inspiration for you from one of our members. I'm not sure how you feel about mods or what you're plans are for the 260z 2+2, but if I had one those..... . . . . . . It would end up something like this::bandit:
  2. Looks great Mike. I was wondering about the Anti-Backfire valve as well. My clean-up jobs never seem to come out that nice but I guess this depends mostly on what you start with. I'd love to hear what your methods and products you used to clean up the various materials and surfaces.

When I first read this thread last night that was the only thing that came to mind for me as well. WOW!
  4. Ouch that hurts!
  5. I definitely believe there is room for a book or guide like this, but I'm not sure about the profitibility of it when all is said and done. As you pointed out there are several common practices, swaps and general improvements that could certainly be documented more clearly with all bits and pieces in one place. And yes, all of that can be found on the Internet, but if someone could get a jump start and reduce the amount of time needed to compile the necessary information and make some much needed improvements to their vehicle then why not. "How to Modify your Nissan/Datsun OHC Engine" is a perfect example of this IMHO. Most of the info is out there on the net somewhere but being able to sit down and read about it over a cup of coffee while parked at the beach is great. As Mike and others pointed out however, some of these "common fixes/swaps" rely on parts that are becoming increasingly scarce, so whatever data you include could become quickly obsolete if it hasn't already. For example, when was the last time you found an 300ZX R200 CLSD in a junkyard, or a Maxima rear caliper bracket? I've never seen either so I went another direction with aftermarket parts that could be fleeting as well. Cross references to other possible replacement parts for both stock and swapped/improved parts would be a plus. A section on custom tools or alternatives to proprietary tools would be nice as well. Cheers, .

Very well put Enrique as usual. Time to let this thread die. I'm out.

This is true, however if information is scattered throughout those hundreds of posts, then you must read them all in their entirety to be sure you're not missing anything, or more importantly some obscure but extremely useful tidbit. If folks would search first and/or post to existing threads on the the same or similar topics finding the total sum of all info on a particular topic within the board would be much easier and ultimately more effecient. I use search engines for a living so finding what I want is generally pretty easy for me, as can be noted by the relative few questions that I actually ask on this board. Most of it is already here, if you only search for it.

Mount arrived today and looks great! It might be a few weeks before I have time to get it installed. Thanks for the effort and the goods Dave!
  9. Umm........not much left there, but....... "Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it!" - Jeff Spicoli

Ask and ye shall receive. Here's some links to replacement boots. The linkage may be more difficult to find new but eBay is a good source as are the recycling yards. There are two 77' 280Zs in my local yard where these parts could be obtained if I knew specifically what you were looking for and were inclined to help. I also recommend trying Ztherapy as a source for the linkage. http://www.zzxdatsun.com/catRubber.php http://www.datsunstore.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=linkage&osCsid=65b13ac292d1b38b8cea88d98e3c779d&x=0&y=0 It might be helpful to create a signature that details the model and year of your car as well so we have a better idea what car your questions are related to.

They are designed for sharing information, but who likes to do a search and get hundreds of results for a single topic with the same information repeated over and over again in each post? You said you are impatient so this wouldn't serve you very well, would it? Perhaps if you had posted a question like; "I've looked at many sites and can't find the parts I'm looking for. Does anyone know where I can find X?" would have provided us with better information to help you and get you closer to the parts you're looking for. Now you're just being a baby. Sorry if I'm being harsh but your initial response and this one are simply juvenile and way off base. You asked where we buy parts and I posted a list not knowing where you had already been since you neglected to share that info with us in your initial post. Good communicaiton skills will go a long way towards getting the help you need and maintaining a good standing on this and any message board. This board is actually very friendly which is why you received posts with links and recommendations. Posts like your second one in this thread will get you nowhere. Just tell us what you need so we can point you in the right direction and spare us the drama. Cheers ,
  12. Has anyone else here found themselves buying parts you really don't need just to save them from the crusher? I just dropped $100 at Pick & Pull and picked up what appears to be a high quality freshly rebuilt starter, right sugar scoop, 280z front hubs and very clean valve cover. What got crushed was a 77' 280z 2+2 with perfect front fenders, transverse links, 3.7 R180, straight doors, windshield and hatch glass, and clean HVAC fan. Do the doors and rear hatch glass fit the 240z? The car also had what appeared to be a relatively low mileage (based on the cleanliness and condition of the valve train) P79/F54 ATK replacement engine. If I didn't already have one of these combos sitting in the garage I would have taken this one. There was only one other Z in the yard and it was an identical car to the one above. 77' 280z 2+2 Automatic. I believe this one has an N42/N42 and is where I got the fresh starter from. Everything else is still there.

Well a "squeak" doesn't sound like a typical description for a noise made by the rear end, but a "roar" as you put it does. It's hard to know for sure without hearing the noise ourselves, but it's certainly possible that this is due to one or more bad u-joints. Since that's already been diagnosed as a problem perhaps you should just tackle this and see if the noise goes away.

    Covered many times but here's a short list. http://www.thezstore.com/ http://www.courtesyparts.com/ http://www.nissanparts.cc/ http://www.zbarn.com/ http://www.classicdatsun.com/ http://www.datsunstore.com/ http://www.ztherapy.com/
  15. In the event that you're not joking, perhaps it time to get a DVR or by the series on DVD?

Sounds like one of the bearings in the diff to me, although the directionality would point to the ring and pinion, however that would normally grow in sound level over time and would generally not start all of a sudden unless the diff was run out of oil.

This may help some but doesn't show the inner fenderwells which slope up and out away from the outter edge of the frame rails. The narrowest point will be between the two shock towers. Front to back won;t be a problem as there's splenty of space there depending on what you may be adding to the engine such as turbos and piping around the front. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=33004&d=1259215280 Note that a lot more engine swaps go on over at www.hybridz.org so you might find something over there.
  18. This is what I can offer but I'm betting you already have one or the other. I believe there's a huge TIFF version of the Chassis Dimensions floating around on the board here as well.
  19. McGuffin, your son needs to go slap the crap out of the monkey who mounted that muffler. From the picture is looks like a center dump which is the wrong type and explains why they had to mount it at an angle. If it was your son who did it, go slap him.

You'll always get the encouragement you need from the board members to keep you moving forward. Significant others generally aren't the best source for encouragement in this area. It's either a jealousy thing or the countless hours spent are seen as a distraction from their honey-do agendas. Nice job. Carry on.

What's a "pointy happer".... Sounds painful.
  22. Same to you Dave, and to the rest of you out there in Z-land. Happy Thanksgiving!
  23. Love the car Dave. Definitely different and the mods look to be well executed. Those wheels look great as well.

That really is a nice color. I can't wait to see the finished project. Congrats on the progress so far. All these nice repaints lately is making me second guess my decision to keep the original patina of my own.
  25. Bummer deal. I was hoping to do the Honda upgrade at some point but I"m not sure I want to eliminate the stock intermittent function on my 73. Do you think it is feasible to re-wire the stock delay box/relay/timer function using the information provided for adding an aftermarket delay as a guide, or would this be more trouble than it's worth in your opinion?
