Those don't look like very much fun to clean. You are righ though, the yare definitely in period.

I have 4 goals. 1)find something different that not everybody has, 2)move to 15"s so I have more tires to choose from, 3)fit some bigger tires in there, and 4)allow enough room to fit one of the 3 versions of the Toyota caliper brake mod. I believe'81 280zxt wheels will allow me to accomplish #1&2. I'm not so sure about #3&4. Yeah, I guess they are a bit heavy but I really like them. Until I find something I like better or these won't help me meet my goals, they are the ones I'm after for now. Ok, go ahead and talk me out of it.

I was trying to figure out what those were called.. Any idea if I would be able to fit either of the Toyota caliper upgrades inside the ZXT snowflakes? The more I look at them the more I like them.

One of the reasons I am considering different wheels is due to the fact that I would eventually like to upgrade the brakes and my options are somewhat limited with the 14's, as well as the fact they are only 6" wide. Anyway, I've got some other things to do in the meatime.
  5. Thanks JK. That's great info to have. I'll keep that in mind when it comes time to mount up my build-up motor to the stand.
  6. Dunno, that's why I asked. I would re-use the bolts I have in my engine now, and they're "used".

Pull it! I'll be doing the same thing as soon as I'm done with the suspension and brakes. I'm going the F54/P79 or modified N42 route. Still deciding on the head.
  8. Why would you want to use Z head bolts for an engine stand? Why not just go to your local hardware store and leave the Z bolts for someone who might need them? Am I missing something?

Yeah, I'm kinda looking for something different. I always thought gold looked good with brown. The Panasports sure look nice but like you said, there are lots of them around. You'll be the first to know if I decide to part with them rather then polishing them. They were already on there when I bought the car. The P.O. did a poor job mounting them. The driver's side is moved rearward and the passenger side was moved forward. I haven't tried to figure out why this was done but I can say that I hate the fact that new holes were made.... Ok, I'l bite. You don't really think I have all three and changed them out for the picture do you? This was a simple Photochop job. Thanks guys.
  10. Seems a bit pricey if you ask me. I'd expect a header to come with it for that price.
  11. I have a 1 owner '73 that's pretty much all original and I don't have one of those.
  12. Why in the world would you mount the oil filters in the wheel well. Not only does it look like crap but an errant rock, screw or nail could easily do you in.

I'm just looking ahead trying to decide which direction I want to go with regard to wheel choice. Which do you prefer? Personally I sorta like the retro 280ZXT look but man those Panasports are sweet! Stock - this is what I have now. Panasport Formula Gold 280ZXT

As stated in numerous threads in the past, the primary reason to go to these other motors(L26, L28) is to get more power. Period. Aside from that, I can think of no good reason to change out the L24. One of the main reasons these later engines were perceived as having less power was due to the later cars being heavier and therefore slower. Not so. Check the numbers. The motors continued to get bigger(more displacement and more HP) to make up for the a loss of performance for two reasons: (1) design changes were made to the combustion chambers to lower compression ratios and help meet increasingly strict emission requirements, (2) to compensate for the increasing weight of the cars.

The kind of man who leaves that kind of stuff behind is a dead man. Quite the find. Good luck in your search. Man, I'd love to have that Vette. That was always my favorite bosy style.

Never even heard of or seen one of these until now. Pretty cool.
  17. My two favorite things in this world......cars and beer. but not at the same time.

Wow thanks! Thats a great resource. Welcome to the board.
  19. Hmm....I found an F54/P79 combo in a junkyard, and the guy swears it's from a Maxima. He also swore up and down that the only Z motor he ever had was from an early 240Z. However, I managed to find 10 L6 engines. A few were definitely from Maximas but I also found one early L24 with SUs, 2 L26s w/Flat Tops, as well as a couple L28s w/F54 blocks and various heads.
  20. I think only us Yanks and Knucks drink that stuff. Dunno.
  21. Unfortunately, the car is in a junk yard and the starter is missing. That's why I was cranking it by hand. Since I was planning on rebuilding it I guess the high miles don't matter much. The block and head both look solid and it's not frozen. Any idea what a typical rebuild with a mild cam and a rebuilt head would cost if I did the assembly after honing, tanking and anything else that should be done? $1000, $2000..more..less? So that hissing sound is normal eh Montoya? Wierd. I would think on a fresh rebuild you shouldn't be leaking any pressure from the cylinders in any direction unless something was wrong. Could it simply be the pressure changin in the crankcase due to th movement of the pistons, and the hissing sound is actually coming from the crankcase breather?
  22. I believe Courtesy Nissan has them as well. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=25070-S30
  23. I hate to generalize but I have also found many muffler guys to be devoid of any people or business skills whatsoever. Perhaps it's due to the simplistic nature of the task. They get bored and can't bear to hear anyone try to tell them how they want the job done. I know I'd be a grumpy old fart if I had to do their job.
  24. Where are you located Sulla. I may be in the market for the right L28. Update your profile so we know what region of hte country you're in.
