Retro Sound Install
Nice job Stephen. Thanks for sharing the details and pics of your install. I look forward to hearing more about the sound and operation of the unit, especially in relation to the MP3 functionality. Wow Dennis, that's pretty damn cool. I had no idea. I guess I missed out on this novelty while still learning to walk and talk. And I thought I was one of the older ones around here.

260z will not stay running
Sounds like it's time to go through the ignition components. Have you checked the dizzy cap, rotor, points and plug wires for wear or leakage? Cleaned or replace the plugs? Checked for a strong spark? Clogged exhaust?

Opinions Please
Yeah, it's certainly a different look. Here's the car before the suspension upgrade, tires and wheels. I believe the tires are 195/75/14s or maybe 70s. Definitely fills the wheel wells better than the 225/50/15s.

Opinions Please
I have 15x7 Konig Rewinds on my car with 225/50/15 BFG g-Force Sports. I haven't driven the car since I put them on but it's been rolled and turned w/o any rubbing so far. The car has Tokico springs and HP blue inserts. Here's some pics. More shots here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/techn0freq/sets/72157615654942387/

Another Z in the Bay
Congrats and welcome to the forum. I hope to get to one of the events in the Bay sometime soon. Hey Andy, I just realized (maybe I just forgot) that your car is the same color as mine. Is that original paint as well? Looks like you're sporting butterscotch too. Very cool!

heater control panel
I could be wrong on this but I'm not so sure he's the one selling the panel. He has a 73 which has a different design than the one in the auction, which can be verified by examining at the one in his gallery.

Ah...forum-ite.....That makes sense. I like it. The spelling threw me so I never put the two together.

Where does this tube go?
The stock manifold on my 73 has two vacuum ports on the carb mounting flange, as well as another that appears to have been blocked off with a screw, perhaps when the PO converted to round tops. I'm not sure where the vacuum advance for the flat tops went originally but it may have been there. When I got the car the vacuum advance hose was attached to a T coming off of a vacuum port on front carb. This can be seen in the pics below. I haven't measured the vacuum on this port but plan to based on the info in the balance tube section of this page: http://datsunzgarage.com/engine/ The first pic shows the vacuum hose routing as I received the car from the PO with round tops. The blue line show the hose from the diaphram on the dizzy, the yellow arrow indicates where this hooks into a T attached to a vacuum port on the round top carb body, the green arrow shows where the throttle opener control and anti-backfire valve vacuum attachments are, and the red shows the location of another possible vacuum port blocked off with a machine screw. There is an identical screw on the rear manifold. The second pic is the emission component layout for a 73 from the FSM. The 3rd pic is the stock layout on an unmollested 73 with flat tops. Sadly, you can't really see the destination of the advance hose but it looks to go to the same area. This is the best pic I have of a bone stock 73 engine.

71 240z compression rod issue
You now have the nicest TC rod bushing cups in the world. Don't forget to grind down those welds so they don't tear up your nice new bushings.

Retro Sound Install
Vinyl in a moving car? I think not. :stupid: As far as leaving your iPod in the open, the whole idea behind the USB interface is that you can plug and unplug your USB stick or device at will. Leave any electronic device in the open in an unattended car and you're simply asking for it to be stolen. No surprise there.

Only starts when jumped..?
John, Steve gave you some REALLY great advice in post #14. Did you take the time to measure the draw on the battery like he recommended? If so, please post the numbers. This will help identify where the draw is coming from and could explain why your battery is being drained.

Is this a low vin #?
Mike, The original poster posted a pic of the VIN tag from HLS30-000051 stating that he had removed this from a car he "literally found siting in a field". The VIN was recognized by some of the members as that of a car believed to be sitting in a field of 240s where the curious Pantera hatch discussed in another thread was stored. The poster was asked if the owener of the cars in this field was aware that he was removing parts from these cars and he got upset that soneone had questioned his motives and character. A tthat point he insinuated that he had some sort of relationship with the owner of said location and that this was really not anyone's business but his own. At that point, he got an earful from a few and appears to want to disappear now. Can't say I blame him but the post was somewhat of a bait, the methods of aquisition somewhat suspect, and the reference to "retards" ended up offending some of our members. Thats what I remember. Anyone care to add to this?

71 240z compression rod issue
Wierd that these cups are missing. If in fact they rusted off, I might be re-thinking putting on polys here since they will transfer a greater amount of stress and vibration to this area, increasing the likelyhood of a failure in the welds holding the TC box to the frame. I chose not to use poly for these bushings due to the extra stress they put on the TC rod and the TC box, and I don't have any rust to worry about. Be sure this area is solid otherwise before moving forward.

Look what I can do... You'll either get it or you won't...

GREETINGS fellow Z car foramites!
Welcome to the forum Lefforge and good luck with your car. Out of curiosity, would you mind defining the word "foramites" used in the subject line of this thread? I'm not familiar with this term and can't seem to find a definition for it or anything close in spelling that seems relevant.

260Z Roof Skin Graft (Thanks Arne)
Very impressive Dave. I'm curious if you considered using metal bonding adhesive rather than welding during your planning stages, and if so why you chose to weld the top back on? I saw this method used with an early model Mustang last night on a recorded episode of Musclecar and was curious about the pros and cons.

my 280z 2+2
Speaker was the logical choice, but it just didn't look like your average speaker grill. I assume it's not stock? Did the 260z come with speakers in this location or was is this just a common place to add them. Is there one on the other side as well?

my 280z 2+2
Nice job. They look better right side up however. I like the way you blended in the spoiler. What is that mounted to the center console by the driver's right calf? .

Early Series 1 Tie Rods
It's interesting that the different sized ball joints are referred to by the size (12m or 14mm) of the threaded shaft, rather than by the width (15mm or 17mm) of the taper they're designed to fit into.

Hellaflush
That rude and ignorant post by z4life92 resulted in him being added to my ignore list, but the ignorance also made me laugh at the same time. The funny thing about it is that most Zs already "stand out" enough so it's really not necessary to go to such an extreme to be noticed. To each his own.

2 red wires to battery?
That's great news Mark. Congrats on getting her running.

Retro Sound Install
Interesting. I'd love to hear your feedback on this unit. I was actually considering purchasing one of these before I button the dash back up after removing the A/C, refreshing the heating system, soldering the fuse panel connectors and installing Dave's taillight upgrade harness. This would replace the crappy out of date Audiovox system in there now.
