"ClassicZ" Guys in Action at San Antonio junkyard
Loved the JY pics. I go to my local JY on a regular basis but it's a Pick and Pull and the prices suck. I've seen a lot of good parts go to the crusher because I just can't justify paying some of the prices they are asking for parts I simply don't need. I saw a nearly complete 73 go to the crusher with only some minor right side front end damage. It even had a newish fuel tank in it, save the hole the JY monkeys put in it. What a shame...

Rough cost to rechrome a front bumper
Yup, very happy. Nice chrome job. I'm left debating if I want to mount the early bumper on the 73 or keep it stock. Since I found NOS bumper packing for the 73 I'm leaning towards keeping it stock. That said I plan to keep the bumper in case I change my mind.

Strut insulators
Unless there's something wrong with them you should be fine re-using them. I'm pretty sure most people do. Mine were fine so I just replaced the crumbled bump stops.

Fantastic Z Information
Nice job Kobo. The site looks great. Perhaps we'll get to see some more shots of the beautiful car hiding in the garage some time.

240Z Auction - Barrett Jackson
That's a great looking car CK1. Good luck on your sale. I love the functional choke and throttle levers. Did you make those yourself or know where I could get a set?

Datsun makes it on Cash Cab
Yes I believe they did. No surprise they got that part wrong, nor that you caught the error and pointed it out.

Datsun makes it on Cash Cab
I was passively listening to Cash Cab tonight while browsing CZCC and the term "Z car" in one of the questions caught my attention. I promptly blipped the DVR in reverse and listened to the full question. Here it is for the rest of you. Seems a silly question from our perspective, but not common knowledge for many. I believe the contestants got it right. "Despite the popularity of its Z car, what automobile company was phased out by Nissan in 1983?" And the final answer is?

A new start to an old feeling
The sunroof is aftermarket (even if it was dealer installed), the wheels and the front spoiler as well. Everything else in the pics appears to be stock except for that nifty steering wheel cover. Don't waste your money on a carfax. I don't think they go back past 1981 anyway. Best way to tell is to post lots-o-pics and let the members tell you what's what. Check the plate in the engine compartment to see if the engine number matches. Not that it matters much on a car of this late vintage but still nice to know if it's original. Other things that were often swapped are trannys and diffs. The 1978 came stock with either a 5 speed or Auto. If it came with a 5 speed it came with a 3.54 R200 diff and a 3.54 R180 with the Auto. You can tell for certain what diff and gear ratio is in the rear end by looking at the shape of the diff cover and the stamping on the ring gear. The R200 diff cover has round shape while the R180 is more square. Note that there is also an external process by which you can determine gear ration that entails by turning a wheel and counting the number of times the driveshaft turns. I don't remember the specific but a search for "determining diff ratio" should produce some results.

Would like your guys opinion
Well there ya go. Time to start cutting out the metal and getting it replaced. I thought it was worth mentioning that POR-15 is also available in 4 oz cans so it is not necessary to buy a whole whole pint for a small job like this. A 4 oz can will cover 6 sq ft. with two coats. I paid $8.95 for one at a local auto body and paint supply store. As an added benefit, I don't have to worry about the rest of my ~$30 pint hardening between uses. Quarts run ~$45.00.

Oldest Z
Original or not, it's very cool that this car has been found again and brought into the light. Let's hope that it's in the right hands or ends up in them at some point, and receives the proper restoration that it so rightly deserves.

Bent fan blade ate the radiator
That's just plain odd. Perhaps a defect in the plastic?

That's one way to ensure that it doesn't get stolen. Did you get any other pics such as the interior?

L24 supercharged *just some pics*
Chris, it looks like the engine has been canted to the right to compensate for the space the supercharger and manifold is taking up. Notice that the engine is mounted on a level crossmember in the second pic. In the last pic it appears that the carbs are in fact level. Interesting build. Man would I love to have a supercharged L28.

Weird Coolant Leak
From your description it sounds like a cracked head or a breach in a coolant passage within the head to the exterior. Again based on your description, this does not sound like somewhere you should be seeing a coolant leak. It may be time to take it to a mechanic familiar with the Z for a second opinion unless you're up for tearing into this yourself to investigate. Pictures could be helpful.

Variation in light brightness when lights on or accesories performance.......
The condenser regulates the spark between the point contacts ensuring a consistent spark and helps prevent the points from burning up prematurely. The points and condenser are supposed to be replaced as a pair, and they should last for a lot more than 500 miles. Note that it's normal to see some arc build-up (for lack of a better term at the moment) under normal conditions and this can be safely filed off with a points file. If the points are getting burned up prematurely, I would suspect a faulty condenser or too small of a gap.

Calculating Diff Ratio Using Gear Code Stamp
First number divided by second. 37:11 = 3.36 39:11 = 3.56 37:10 = 3.70 39:10 = 3.90

Welcome to the site. It's always nice to see a Z passed down through the generations. I'm sure your grandson probably thinks you're the coolest grandpa in the world, and I'd have to agree.

5 speed with 3.54 rear gears
Just for clarification, the ZX does not have a mustache bar, only a small rear mount bracket. As correctly pointed out, the later style mustache bar is only needed when using an R200 in the S30 chassis.
