The Mrs. made me take out a new years resolution that the Zed will be finished by next Christmas ( I can't write what I'll get if I do..hehehehe...oh yeah!)....hmmm let's see....11.5 months to go....why am I typing this then I hear her say........
  4. I haven't run my L24 for nearly 6 months now. I squirted about 5ml of oil in each of the spark plug holes and then turned it over by hand a few times to get the oil coated in there. I figure that I should turn it over by hand every month just to keep the oil up in the bores. As the bearing shells hold oil, I'm hoping that I won't do any damage by hand turning. Also I'll put some more oil in shortly as I figure the oil could have seeped past the rings.....I am being very anal about it but I you know how you can get about these Zeds....bonkers. But if it doesn't hurt it then I say why not do it. At the very minimum, it gives me peace of mind that I'm doing eveything I can to help stop issues. Does anyone know any problems with putting oil down the bores. I imagine that there will be a heap of smoke on start up but what about glazing of the bores. Is this a possibility?
  5. Surely you will flatten the battery turning an engine over until the oil pressure comes up! If you were going to do that...and it does sound a good idea, why not take the spark plugs out just prior so that the poor battery isn't fighting against compression. That way it would come up to pressure easy and fast....or am I being over cautious?

Pistons in my L24 have 50 stamped on the top of them. What does this denote? Cheers James

HS30 #352 doesn't have a rear screen demister. It has a blank over the switch plate and a opaque blank over the side marker switch location on the centre console also.
  8. Thanks for shedding the light on that switch. I was wondering myself why I have a blank plate in my centre console, and also the bung in the rear cluster. Did the US model have similar bungs or only RHD models? Was there also a lamp in that circuit to let you know that the lights were on?

Be careful when planning on adding more ponies to that car. There are other less expensive things that can be done before you up the anti as it were....IMO anyway. A car that handles and stops is usually a better car if you aren't concerned about straight line speed. The L24 will lose your license just as well as a big HP motor. 1. Sort those old brakes. Little point going quick if you can't stop it quick. 2. Suspension. How about some Eibach progressive springs. They lower the car by 1" and give a standard ride when driven normally. Load the car and they progressively stiffen, giving you a better sporty ride. Recommended by many here. MSA and VB sells them. 3. Add some anti-sway bars if they aren't already fitted. 4. Adding HP is a collective thing. Start adding things in stages. Maybe a different model head first to raise the compression. Add those big values if you adon't have them already. Some argue that it is best to start out with a L28 as it has 20BHP more as standard. Add a bigger cam! Food for thought?

Welcome to you from "a Different Down Under". It's aways great to have early VIN's around. Not too many left and they are very worth keeping alive, despite the cost. James

From memory they are to help cut down the vibrations. I wouldn't go for solid mounts. I've seen a thread somewhere about it....have you done a search?
  12. Well, this sounds like a familiar thread. You can get replacement floor rails and floors from MSA or Zeddfindings. MSA stocks Zeddfindings floors as a premium product. Tabco have a range of replacement panel parts that you may need. I can't remember the link but you can find it under the links section here. For $300 it sounds like a steal. But it all depends on what you want to do with the car. If you want to keep it and turn it into a daily driver, then I would get the car up in the air and have a really good look under it. Tap the frame rails with a hammer and listen carefully for the sound of rust sleeping. It will be there. Take a fridge magnet and run it along the body to see where else the bondo is. Sounds promising though.

Welcome to you. Water on the passengers side might be caused by a split water hose that drains the front cowl area. Mine was split and that caused it good and proper. Try putting the hose on the cowl and see if water dribbles in off the door side of the footwell.

Those 635CSi's were absolutley delicious. Now was that Peter Brook in that 05 Holden? Doesn't conrod straight seem really long seeing that old footage! It was a good thing to put in that chicane though. I just remember watching when that privateer Commadore hit the bridge and engine looked as though it was in the boot. Anyone got any more footage on wmv.?
  15. It's very hard to unscrew one of the 3 screws that hold the bottom bracket into the deck. The 3rd screw is a PITA to get to, but will come out if you have time. I've just dropped my tank last week and it made it a lot easier. Mine is a series 1, so there might be some differences in fixings. It's not too much to drop the tank anyway. While you there, you could also give that rusty old tank a refurb. Doesn't take much $. Good luck

It's articles like that one that gives us Zed drivers a smile and glad we own them. Viva the ZED. Thanks Bill.
  17. Now you've gone and given yourself the best bug money can buy. There aren't any pills for the fever by the way, it never abates. Well done on the purchase and as Bill says, welcome to the club. Plenty of info here for you to browse through. Remember to use the forum search function when you want to find something else. If not there, then simply post your question and someone, somewhere will have an answer or point you in the right direction. James

Heh guys, that first clip was magnificent! I'm with 26thZ, it made me laugh my head off. Maybe its by twisted sense of humour. But seriously, I lived in Dubai for 2 years which is a city in the United Arab Emirates, it's perched between Saudi Arabia and Oman, but enjoys a great climate, the gulf beach and has 24hour legal...yes legal...bars and nightclubs, not what you normally associate with the Middle East. However, the one thing that most UAE people believe in is Allah. The meaning of "Insha Allah" is "by Gods will". So you see those guys standing and watching, cheating death as some mad idiot speeding at 100mph (didn't it look like it to) and smashign into them really doesn't make any difference to them. If they died then it was because it was Gods will that they died, it is out of their hands. Very interesting place to live and I have never seen massive speed humps on motorways before like the ones over there....huge...massive bloody things to slow down the rich brats in the Lambo's or Ferrari's....and they are every 5 miles or so. I was once at a set of lights and pulled out into the junction when the light turned green. I made it out past the first lane, noticed something out of my left eye, stood on the brake then all I remember is gathering my thoughts as I looked at smoke rising in front of me. Checked my body to make sure it was all there and then got out of the wreakage. A truck with two sea containers went straight through a red light and hit just in front of my drivers door hinge, totalled my car (Mercury Mystique...heh, a company car and not my choice), rolled his truck into the Dubai World Trade Centre carpark and then asked if he could use my mobile phone to call his boss. Guess what I told him. A squillion Police turn up and the big cheif said that Allah said that it was not time for me to meet him...too bloody right it wasn't. It went to court and the driver of the truck got a 200 Dirham or US$80 fine and that was it. Turned out that the company he drove for was owned by the brother of the judge.....go figure. So, watching that first .wmv was liek old times....classic!
  19. Once again Alan manages to extrude some info out for us to enjoy. Just how big is your house Alan? Must have plenty of book cases about. I'm with Michael, in that I'm sure Tim would be keen to read through ANY data he can on the 240RS CD. Let me know what I need to do to get a copy for him. Please send me a PM. Yes, they weren't the prettiest of cars but they sure have more grunt than a wild boar on heat!!!! Cheers James
  20. Double DOH!
  21. Good question Carl. It was a New Zealand marketing ploy. When Nissan decided to phase out the Datsun brand in NZ, their spin doctors put that little line in there to "ease" the old and new generations into the new name. They didn't like the idea of cold turkey. Silly how some companys work isn't it! But I see the reasoning. Just imagine what the FJ24 sounds like with the "loud" medal on the floor.....260BHP unleshed on a rear wheel drive unit....OMFG! Can't wait until Tim brings it down here for an event....or I'll just have to visit him again.
  22. Tony, Thanks for that link. It's www.fj20.com just drop the au. As I thought, the FJ24 was a rally edition engine only. Case closed. Cheers James
  23. Yes, you are right. Why did I say turbo...DOH! As you can see from Tim's site, he has made some mods to his with the individual throttle bodies, EFI running a Link computer. He had 50's on there but they farted about too much so hence the new computer and throttle bodies. Were they on carbs as standard or EFI?
  24. Bill, No it's not a "rally edition" 240Z. It is a Datsun 240RS. It looks like a Nissan Silvia shape but doesn't preform like a Silvia. I think they were used in the old Group B rally era in the 80's? The FJ24 is a 4 cylinder 2.4 litre turbo EFI Nissan engine. Oh it was a Datsun but was labelled Nissan by Datsun. I'm with you Victor, my thought's are that the FJ24 was strickly a NISMO motorsport release ONLY. Parts are enormous $$$ now. I've heard rumours a short block going for $9000 (about US$6500) and a used one that that. www.geocities.com/timsillay/240.html It is my old mates car....oh yeah!
  25. Sorry to post this here, but I've done a search on the net and all the 240RS pages are in Japanese and I can't read that hence this....it is a Datsun so it is a relation of sorts. :nervous: Anyone have any data on the 240RS production numbers. I thought that the FJ24 engine was a special Nismo only engine. It appears not. Anyone got any ideas or info on these cars???? Cheers James
