difference between FWD and RWD
I had a Subaru Impresa WRX as a company car when I was in the UK. For those of you who don't know what that is then....wow have you been missing out. 2 litre boxer engine with big juicy turbo and full time 4WD. Before that I had a Citreon Xantia (stop laughing now!) Biggest thing I noticed about the 4WD is that the car will "push" around tight bents when driven hard. Very hard to get used to but the harder you drive them the better they are. Big difference was noticed in the wet......mega grip all the time.

What are these for?
And also, please tell me that Datsun used white silicon as a seam sealer in 1970. I fear that the PO has smeared the areas effected by cancer...eek

What are these for?
Thanks....and DOH on my part. I don't have the original jack (it came with a Nissan one) and those tool compartment covers are also gone if ever there in the first place! So the 1st pick shows two raised brackets. What fits on those? Has anyone got a pic of what these tool lids look like when attached?

Cheak out these pics of the areas behind the seats on my 12/70 build series 1 240z. Any ideas what the brackets are for and alos what are the layout pads for (little raised bits in the metal on both sides). They all have me stumped

Gas drips out of right side by above tire
Here is pic of what mine looks like. Build is 12/70 RHD Aussie model. As you can see, it must take some acceleration to get fuel out the vent. Must be hard to get it up over the loop wouldn't it? I guess a lot of slosh would help it. So that gets me thinking, did the fuel tanks have baffles to help reduce slosh???

Gas drips out of right side by above tire
Wasn't is mainly a US thing with the fitting of expansion tanks....all that emissions stuff. (makes you wonder why really when the US continues to ignore the Kyoto agreement, but I'm not going down that path again...gezzz). All the venting mine has is a single line from the tank back to the filler tube and an over flow tube running down behind the inspection panel. But I get a wiff of petrol when the tank is full and my window is down.....must have a cut vent somewhere. Anyway that is another thread and I'm sure that I've read something about it before anyway...check out the dusty archives.

Dead right Carl. My 71 doesn't have the expansion tank that your pic shows. The hose I was talking about was no.7.

You might be talking about the overflow hose (is it called that). There is a tank vent hose that connects to the filler hose. This hose runs behind the rear RHS panel, through a rubber grommet and then runs behind the rear hatch panel (that covers the tail lights), about 1/4 a way along in dives down though the deck and onto the tank as a vent. I'll post some pics tonight as that area is exposed on my 71 right now.

Right Front
Good on ya! Not too many people around willing to rebuild early Zeds....I guess we are the last in the breed....or last with money!
-
Right Front
What a beauty. I just love that raw rusty metal look and also the minimalistic front headlight cowls....or has it a X nose. Now being serious.....One hell of a project ahead. Surely your going to find a rust free shell and move engine over.

What do you do for a living?
I'm a NZCE electronics engineer who has nothing to do with electronics anymore. Currently I convert matter to anti-matter, in much the same way Spock did it. In my spare time (9-5) I work designing electronic surveillance systems.....unlike Ed, I keep them out once they've got in!
-
Hoses are getting really expensive
Yeah, that is nuts! What about cleaning up the old hoses as best you can then applying some black shoe polish? Will boot polish last? What's the best way to get these things back to life? And sorry but I should know this but what does NOS mean? Nissan Original Spec?

Your opinion on this front air dam (sweet)
I have to agree with MOYEST that this is a nice front airdam. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=12005 My 71 has a front dam fitted as well as the rear spoiler + slots. However, once I'm finished, I will have a new airdam and no spoiler ( I'll however keep it just in case I change my mind. Probably try and find a airdam like the link points to. Does MSA or VB stock that one?

Is This For Real?
- Is This For Real?
I thought this was a website for those who have interests in Classic Zeds. Obviously this site has morfed into a platform for the few of us who can't resist preaching what they believe in. What has American politics got to do with a Japanese motor car anyway????? I now have serious doubts why I am a member here when this type of forum takes off. Do we really want this site to become like this.... Mike????? Super moderators??? Moderators???? People???- Look what was hiding!!!!!!
Sorry Max, I haven't used POR-15 so I am not really in a position to comment about its suitability. I've only heard second hand that it is a pain in the backside to remove once on. I'm close to getting my zed up in the air and start work on the belly. I wonder if I will need the powers off POR-15......it think I might. Lucky that here in NZ they only grit, not salt the roads....lucky classic car owners.- Is This For Real?
Carl, what the hell are you going on about. Isn't this site a simple one? The homepage banner used to read "Dedicated to the Classic Z cars" It should now say "bring your pathetic soap box and whack off" Lets all go to Zcar.com or are we already there? Pathetic!!!!- Look what was hiding!!!!!!
Your on the right track MAX with coating it with something. However, I wouldn't use POR-15 as it is near impossible to get off. Remember that my car spent a long time in a wet and humid environment, classic combo for the ugly rust monster. Just be aware of what can happen and take whatever measures you deem fit to protect it. My car (when finished) will live in a nice cosy garage at night. It won't be a daily driver but will get thrashed on some weeknights and weekends. That should minimise the issue.- Look what was hiding!!!!!!
By all means put the plates back on but smear lots of fish oil all underneath to prevent what I have on mine.- Is This For Real?
What is wrong with you people????? I see little value in being a member of a website dedicated to Classic Zeds when there are posts full of USA political discussion. Has this site turned into a soap box all of sudden???? Yes, I have the right as we all do to choose what we watch or read. I can simply turn off or stop being a member of this site if I choose. However, I am a member here because I feel I can add some value to the knowledge base of what we are here for in the first place. Can we all focus on Zeds????? Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. (breathing slowly know).- P-plate restrictions discussed
Biggest problem I feel that New Zealanders face on the road is crappy imports from Japan. There is a huge problem with odometers being wound back. Is that better than Hillman Hunters and Holden Cameras??? You can get a drivers license at 16 here. Go out and buy a Skyline/EVO/WRX for under $NZ10000 (albeit knackered) and drive yourself into a coffin. It is too easy to get a loan from a car dealer at huge interest but teenagers do it. All about peer pressure. I'm all for restricting power outputs on cars for under 20's. Much like how the UK restricts new motorcycle riders, max cc=125 and they fit restricters on the carbs...so they can't go too fast.- what's the deal with these bumpers?
What can I say but......   - Is This For Real?
