Parts car had 44PHH's onto a L28. The original L24 was chucked long ago. Thermo cover is a lot different than yours but I can't recall seeing a thermo switch there. I'll have a look when/if I ever find it amongst the crap in the garage.
  2. Biggest expense I have is whatever I spend on the zed, my understanding wife spends equal amounts. Now if you only knew what I have spend so far, you'd feel my pain.

For things that are a pain in the arse to replace like the pressure plate and clutch, I'd buy genuine Nissan parts if you can afford it. You can be sure of the quality. OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer = NISSAN.
  4. Great to hear that you got close what you wanted for it.

Mike, Was it connected to anything? Maybe it is a thermo switch for an electric radiator fan???? Strange place to put it but it's been done before. Have you tried running the car without it connected?

New rear panels are available from MSA. The rear tail light panel has been off before. It should have been held on by plastic rivets. There will be rust on the rear panel as well as this is where the water would have drained to. Good luck with the pricing. It may not be to bad.

Brilliant!!!!!! I might just be able to straighten it now I have the measurement I need. Gotta love this place eh guys and gals.

Cheers Ron, exactly what I'm after. Can you balance a level between the two body mounting points and measure the distance to the floor. That way I will know which side is the correct height.

Well, just go out to the garage, put the lucky car on jack stands, jack under the gearbox, take the strain, undo the crossmember, take pics and measure, then reverse the whole procedure. Should take you...what.....erm...about 8.5 minutes......only kidding. Anyone else got one hiding out the back of the garage they can get to?

My crossmember has been mangled badly and I'm about to fabricate a new unit. One side is higher than the other and I'm not sure if this is a stock thing but I doubt it. If anyone has a unmolested one handy that they could measure up, I'd apprecaite it. Pics would be a bonus. I'm unsure that the crossmember is unique to the A series gearbox or just the early 240z (series 1). It has a solid mount to the chassis unlike the bushed later unit. So if you have a mid to late 71, 72 or 73, you'll have a different crossmember to mine.

I wonder if this guy is getting confused with the ol' hand trottle ala "poor mans and outright dangerous cruise control" that came with the "series 1" HLS30's and sub VIN 1500 HS30's. It is easy to fit replace the single choke plate and levers with the earlier model but welding is required on the accelerator pedal to fix the cable. The major potential lethal problem with it is that it doesn't release the pedal when the brake pedal is pressed. Nasty.

Wise words there bjhines. I had two new doublers made for my rebuild project from measurements that Will sent me. They look original and not out of place. The doubler should butt up to the locater which is stamped into the inner guard just above the TC rod mount. It's a small 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch block. From the pictures above you can see that the patches aren't in the right place. I'd bet that the frame rails inside are horrid.
  13. I have two boys aged 8 and 5 who both are brainwashed into the reality that the 240z in our garage is the coolest car in the world. It used to be the fastest car in the world until I realised that one day they would learn that it wasn't and question my reasoning, so coolest it became.

Sorry, but not in a Datsun. Does on count?
  15. As-salaam alaykum Mohamed. Get a 73 240z with a 5 speed fitted. The 73 was the last of the 240z's and had most issues ironed out. Great car and has the bumpers you want. I'm sure that someone has one with L28 in there that they are willing to sell to you somewhere in CA or AZ. As for the flex issue. It will a little more but I doubt you'd notice the difference once you've changed the 35 year old suspension and control arm bushes. Ma as-salaamah

That looks like a great paint scheme for a race car. Kill count could be the race wins.

It's called "Lamb Poo Brown" down under. Whatever smokes your wheels is the colour you should use.
  18. Gnose, Nissan made a triple fuel rail which doesn't have a return line for the 44phh kits they also offered. So I guess you don't really need one if conditions are right.
  19. ooooooh....shiny "go fast" bits. Nice work.
  20. Nice one Mike, What on earth is a pigtail cover? I don't recall seeing one in my car 12/70 build. Was this an early part only? I don't know about you, but the map light is blinding, so I picked up a later model bezel to help my eyes out. I see they also intact as are the choke cover bungs. Nice one. Want to swap those bungs for some missing ones?????
  21. From memory the OS Giken head out flowed the standard heads by only 15% or so. For the money these days in building a DOHC head, I'd say that a good head specialist would provide way over the 15% increase from stock at a fraction of the price of a DOHC head. Now, for coolness factor, a DOHC head would look awesome in my engine bay or anyone's for that matter. Go for it, I'd be watching the developement unfold if allowed. The rotary valve idea is not new. I remember watching a TV program years ago (10-15 at least) that was on this very subject. The guy who did it was a old chap from Italy who was trying to make one for the F1 industry. He had it working to a point but he was a privateer who had run out of funds to develop it further. I wonder if these guys picked up his ideas and ran with it. Red line was a huge 19,000 plus. That's what they doing now with valves anyway.....mind boggling isn't. If my maths is correct, that's a valve opening 158 times per second. 19000/60 = 316.66sec divided by 2 (four stroke engine) = 158

I think Al is on the right track here. If you see anything but body colour under the car, my guess is that either the car has had a) repairs secondary rust proof protection c) full respray. You should also be able to see a texture underneath the top coat. I'm no paint expert but red pigments are some of the most expensive you can use. Any car with a 35 year paint job will fade. But red seems to fade the best especially if left outside to the elements. Wax and a nice garage will help.

Mark - email sent David. MSA have sent me plenty of large packages via USPS. Shipping wasn't too bad. I've been looking into getting a Tokico spring and shock kit off Jon at Betamotorsports. Jon found out that BAX Global has better pricing than USPS. Maybe worth a look if you haven't already sent the items.

Hello all, I need a rear left hand bumper off a 240z to complete my rebuild. The one off my car must be off a 260z as the angles are out by about 10 degrees which results in the tip of the bumper being 40mm from the guard. We only found it after test fitting after extensive panel repairs. The panels measure up as per the factory spec. It needs to have the holes for securing the rubber strip to. Many thanks guys and gals. James
