Gidday Ed from a "different" down-under. Yes....another early VIN zed on the site, welcome to you! James
  3. Yeap....I'd get 45's on there or even 48's if you could get some. Bet you can't get any chokes for the 42's anyway. You'd have to get them turned up and if you haven't got a lathe, then you are in for another bill. A rush of blood maybe?
  4. WOW. I never knew Weber made a 42 DCOE. I thought they came in 40 or 45mm. On a L24 they be fine. If your stroker, you might be better off with the 45's. I don't have my book in front of me but from memory the L28 at 6500 revs needs 44.8mm. So 45's are fine. I know you have 300more cc but you'll probably pulling less revs.

Were luggage straps installed on all series 1 240z's? or were they an option only item? Mine does have them and I think I should have them in there to complete the car (some day)! Where do they mount to? Any thoughts? James

What is this model???? Does it have the same heater console as the Series 1 240z? What are the main differences?????
  8. Gidday Jesse. Many have thought about getting rid of the old motor once it's not needed. However, if you have the room to store it, then you might have a better chance of selling the car (one day you will) if it has the original engine. People how are interested in "matching numbers" will be turned away. So if you can, store it in your garage. Search the forums on "how to store a engine" about lubing it up first. Welcome to the club. I don't have a GTR but I'm into anything Datsun.
  9. I'm thinking of doing the same. Many before have done this and I'm wondering if it is the best way to go. I understand that powder coating is a charged powder applied to parts then they are placed in a oven to form the final product. My guess is that the powder some how bonds with itself to cover the item. Why choose powder coating over banked enamal or got old hammerite paint????

Before you had the Zed fever......now you have the bitten by the bug. Like all of us with Zeds, you are now committed to endless hours of tinkering and pampering. Enjoy it, and you must must must post a thread on the drive home. The first drive is very memorable. Congrats and remember.............
  12. Thanks Marty. I'm about to pull the suspension off mine and just gathering a few ideas about what I will do with my suspension. I'm thinking Eiback Progressive Springs as they might give me what I'm after, but its always interesting to get another opinion. Once you finalise the springs could you update this thread? Still at MOT?

Aw you guys are soooo lucky to be able to pick up cars that cheap. Even if it is "non-viable", you might want to consider picking it up as a parts car. Is $650 to steep fopr a parts car in the US? As Ed said, post some pics and we'll pic at it. You could also look at the fuel filter. Easy fix there too.
  14. I stand corrected. Yes, you didn't refer to the war in Europe. I thought that you were as you were replying to a thread started under the heading of "To our British and French members" I should have read more. Maybe some other members here should also do the same sometimes, it would be a better place if they did. Isn't it amazing how some threads seem to morf these days!
  15. What application are you using these for Marty? Autocross or Daily Driver? Will they give a harsh ride? James
  16. Thanks Ben
  17. Heh guys, can someone post the link for the Rs-Watanabe website please. I wouldn't mind a gander at that. I've been trying to search on the net but no luck. Cheers

Sounds like something is dragging the voltage down somewhere. Put a volt meter on your battery without the engine running. i.e no load, take a reading. Then take a reading when the engine is running. i.e when the alternator is charging the battery. You should see about 13volts on charge and about 12 on no load. Also check the battery cell levels. Funny things can happen when batteries start to die. If all is OK then start pulling fuses to try and isolate the circuit that might be at fault. If everything else is OK then someone else might be able to help, I have little knowledge of 77 280 electrics, sorry. Give it a whirl.

Don't attempt it without FIRST labelling every connector (both sides). Make a list if you find that easier of where every little connection goes no matter how obvious it is, even the bullet connectors. Many a person has fried a wiring harness cause the hooked something up wrong. That is a major PITA. Take as many digital photos as you can. Down load them and then fill that card up again as many times as you think you need to. I have over 100 photos of my dash removal at max resolution and I know that may be a over-kill, but I should (fingers crossed) have a OK time getting it all back in the right place. My dash won't be back in for a year I think. Get plenty of clear plastic bags and group parts together as they come off. Label the bags and place them in a box. I know this sounds a bit silly but this does work. Above all, take your time and don't stop for a beer half way through.....that's just fatal!!!!
