How does that old saying go.... "To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid!" We've all been there...or still are there!!!! Great tips guys.

  4. I have to agree with MOYEST that this is a nice front airdam. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=12005 My 71 has a front dam fitted as well as the rear spoiler + slots. However, once I'm finished, I will have a new airdam and no spoiler ( I'll however keep it just in case I change my mind. Probably try and find a airdam like the link points to. Does MSA or VB stock that one?

I thought this was a website for those who have interests in Classic Zeds. Obviously this site has morfed into a platform for the few of us who can't resist preaching what they believe in. What has American politics got to do with a Japanese motor car anyway????? I now have serious doubts why I am a member here when this type of forum takes off. Do we really want this site to become like this.... Mike????? Super moderators??? Moderators???? People???

Sorry Max, I haven't used POR-15 so I am not really in a position to comment about its suitability. I've only heard second hand that it is a pain in the backside to remove once on. I'm close to getting my zed up in the air and start work on the belly. I wonder if I will need the powers off POR-15......it think I might. Lucky that here in NZ they only grit, not salt the roads....lucky classic car owners.

Carl, what the hell are you going on about. Isn't this site a simple one? The homepage banner used to read "Dedicated to the Classic Z cars" It should now say "bring your pathetic soap box and whack off" Lets all go to Zcar.com or are we already there? Pathetic!!!!

Your on the right track MAX with coating it with something. However, I wouldn't use POR-15 as it is near impossible to get off. Remember that my car spent a long time in a wet and humid environment, classic combo for the ugly rust monster. Just be aware of what can happen and take whatever measures you deem fit to protect it. My car (when finished) will live in a nice cosy garage at night. It won't be a daily driver but will get thrashed on some weeknights and weekends. That should minimise the issue.

By all means put the plates back on but smear lots of fish oil all underneath to prevent what I have on mine.

What is wrong with you people????? I see little value in being a member of a website dedicated to Classic Zeds when there are posts full of USA political discussion. Has this site turned into a soap box all of sudden???? Yes, I have the right as we all do to choose what we watch or read. I can simply turn off or stop being a member of this site if I choose. However, I am a member here because I feel I can add some value to the knowledge base of what we are here for in the first place. Can we all focus on Zeds????? Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. (breathing slowly know).
  12. Biggest problem I feel that New Zealanders face on the road is crappy imports from Japan. There is a huge problem with odometers being wound back. Is that better than Hillman Hunters and Holden Cameras??? You can get a drivers license at 16 here. Go out and buy a Skyline/EVO/WRX for under $NZ10000 (albeit knackered) and drive yourself into a coffin. It is too easy to get a loan from a car dealer at huge interest but teenagers do it. All about peer pressure. I'm all for restricting power outputs on cars for under 20's. Much like how the UK restricts new motorcycle riders, max cc=125 and they fit restricters on the carbs...so they can't go too fast.
  13. What can I say but......

This is what you get if you leave your Zed in the rain for years. Water dribbles enters via a perished door rubber, then travels along the underneath of the door sill plate, happily sitting in its own juice eating away at your thin sheet metal. Anyone for swiss cheese :tapemouth :surprised :hurt: I now feel kinda lucky to have driven it so hard without it falling apart whilst in it. By the way, I've killed the rust in the photo and taken off the paint to see the worst of it. Amazingly, the rest of the car isn't as bad as this....other side is not a bad but will require the same treatment. New rocker steel to go in. Anyone else have a Zed like this?????

New key broke off the first lobe. Not enough meat on the key....must be wrong type....Locksmith to get the hurry up tomorrow.
  16. 240znz posted a post in a topic in Help Me !!
Locksmith tried putting a M in front...no good. Then he tried putting a N in front...no good also. Pulled RHS lock apart and made a new key. Works in both doors, not hatch, not glove box nor fuel flap. Hatch lock doesn't have a code stamped on it. My old key never locked it so I'm sure that it is not an original. I'm now going to turn the house inside out AGAIN!!! and find my old set...aaarrrgfgghhh )(^%$@$#!(@, (*&*^ing locks!!!!! The joys of the Zed, hmmmmmm. I'm still smiling though....until I write my next post that is.

And so it continues. Has anyone called Agatha Christie yet????
  19. Bruce Woolmore (a member here) should also be able to help. He's also a member of the Auckland Z Club. If you know of any other LSD's about, be sure to give me the heads up.
  20. Hell, I was thinking about bidding for that. Hard luck. Have you any recourse with EBay and the seller????
  21. 240znz posted a post in a topic in Help Me !!
I took off the drivers door lock and it has just a 4 digit code. The hatch lock has no numbers stamped at all. I'm thinking that I might take a punt on telling him that he should put a M in front and try that on their lock computer records. I'll let you all know the outcome. Locksmith says that he can pull the lock apart, figure out the tumblers and then cut a key anyway. All for $30NZ, that's US$18....not too bad. Cheaper than relocking the entire car. Remember that the door key also locks the glovebox.

Lost Zed keys whilst moving house. Looked everywhere but they are gone gone gone. So I wrote down the key codes on the sticker located inside the glovebox. Local Nissan dealer is useless.....a waste of space!!! Local locksmith is a goodin. He looked up his computer and cut the ignition key from just the number I supplied him. Door key is a different matter. The code is 4 digits long. He says that it should start with a letter. It sure doesn't. Do all S30's have 4 digit lock codes?

Cheers guys, Another Zed mystery put to bed! Thanks MikeW. The left hand bung split when I removed it so I was needed a new one, cheers for the link. Fired the old girl up last night, hadn't been running for 4 months. Plugs out, turned over to get that oil and fuel running, plugs back in and 20 seconds of coughing then varoom....splutter cough fart....varooooooooom. Ticked over for 10 minutes then off. That head leak has come back from #6, albeit a trickle then drip then stops. Looking more like a gasket problem, as when cold a leak, then warms up head expands and closes issue. I'm going to have to pull the head dig around. Time to port match anyway. Slowly stripping from the hatch forward...finding minor surface rust but the hatch threshold is eaten out....aaarrrggghhhhhh...the joys of owning a early Zed. Geezzzzzz

Still pulling Zed apart and finding some interesting things. Attached is a pic of me pointing to a rubber bung. Any ideas what the hole is is covering was/is used for????
