Check out the web links on this site. Z garage is good. It is a very common swap to goto a 5 speed box. You might have to cut where the shifter hole is though...anyway, I'm no expert....check out those sites. Zed not Zee

Kiora Ivan, just saw your post on "introduce yourself to the class thread" and noted you are in NZ. I'm a Kiwi returning to CHCH in Sept and need to rack your brains about 240 market value, availability, lack of parts in NZ etc. While I'm over in the UK I have a better chance of getting hold of those "rare bits" that I think I will have trouble finding in NZ. Email me at work if you can help me out. mailto:jcairns@indala.com Cheers:D

I'm doing exactly what you are. It would be a good idea to set aside a couple hours net time to read through the forum section on this site. It has tons of info that will drive you in the right direction. Keep coming back and check new threads. As far as what model to go for.....one with minimal rust. My biggest fear is not knowing where to look for it when buying, so I intend to go to a Z car club meet so I can chat to a few owners about it....after all they are all friendly. Reliability.....I can't see why a well restored Z wouldn't be. Almost every part of the 240Z is available new, check out MSA and Victria British for catalogs. Have fun and remember...Zed not Zee:D

I have seen many thread about vapour lock but nothing about what it actually is or how it is caused. Is it only found on Smog equipt or all 70-78Z's Can someone who knows about this in detail enlighten us all?
  6. Always, always ALWAYS use antifreeze in your coolant. It contains an anti-corrosion additive that helps slow down the aluminium eating bug. With it help run your engine cooler in summer and you won't pop those frost plugs in winter....better yet your head water galleries will not corrode further. Look on the bottle for quantities for winter/summer use. Zed not Zee

Front airdam is what you need. In my youth I raced superkarts (250cc twin cylinder 2 stroke Rotax...speed demon, 120+MPH 1 inch off the gound...yehar), in doing so I found out a lot about aerodynamics.... the painful and expensive way. Most rear wings you see on street cars are for looks. To get the best result from a rear wing, it needs to be in clean air. There is little to be gained from slapping a little lip on the tail of a 240Z. 2manyZ's is spot on in saying that you'll need to be at serious speeds, not highway, to see the benefit. The idea behind aerodynamics is to get the car through the air with the least amount of resistance. Any air going underneath the car will be slowed down. This will cause drag. Drag = slooow. Some high end production cars are now using F1 proven air channelling under the car to move any unwanted air out the rear with in minimal of resistance...check out the Ferrari Modena. I even think the 350Z is using this technology now. So for the best result for your money, put a front airdam on. If you want to muck about with rear wings and tunnels , then don't waste your time on a Z...get a Ferarri. Don't get wrong, the lines of a 240Z are one of the most sexiest out there, but remember it is a 30 year old car and you can only do so much. Zed not Zee
  9. A real good place to look is on the Zgarage site. Here is the link http://geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html

Aha...another downunderer...welcome...we must all stick together and attempt to teach our North American friends to speak english and drive on the correct side of the road....and they refuse to spell correctly too...colour for example.... and ask they to pronounce alumimium....and if they argue...just ask them why they say 240 "zed" when the pronouce Z as zee.....hmmmm...a little conflict of interest........(tougue and check) Don't worry about your PC...it's the internet connection bill that will break you... 240ZNZ (kiwi in UK)

I haven't done this on a 240 but have on a 1200 coupe. The standard rad has 2 cores. Victoria British have 3 core units for sale....but they cost$$$. The other option that I have done is take your old rad to a rad shop and get them to swap out the old 2 core for a new 3 core. Mine worked a treat (on my 1200) and I got to support a local business. Just my 2pence worth.

It's a great site the way it is. The main reason I joined is because it was the first site that I came across that I found to be informative, friendly and full of just what I needed to know. Yes we all agree that it needs funding and what better way that to purchase parts, books etc via it. I think the Amazon link idea is great. Is MSA and/or other companies willing to do the same??? As for people being put off by having to setup a user name and password......my God what a effort...all ten seconds of it...wake-up and drag yourselves into the 21st century......if they haven't got the time then they haven't got the Z bug as we all have. It's great the way it is.

Has any one got some pics of what a 240 looks like after being lowered 1" and 2 " inches on 15" rims. Also what size and profile 15" tyre can you safely run without rubbing and without having to mess the the speedo.

Forgot to add that I checked out the UK BBS website and wheel I thought that they were are model La Man. Hope you are all sitting down comfortably. 4 rims will set you back US$2822...OMFG!!!!! Let the 911 drivers get these....geezz.

For those of you who are curious.... The rims are actually 15" American Racing rims. Four corner Coil-Over with shortened struts and Bilstein Strut Inserts Apparently these rims are not made anymore. Has anyone got any ideas on a good place to start finding some??? Cheers

I'm also guessing they are 15's. How low do you think it has been lowered. I'm guessing at 2 inches. Are there any pics out there of what a 1" or 2" lowered Z look like for reference. I don't want to go out and spend dosh and find it is too low.
  22. 240znz posted a post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
Check this pic out. What a looker...a little too low for my cup of tea but the wheels are striking. Does anyone know what wheels they are? They look like BBS but I'm not sure. I've been to the BBS website but haven't been able to find the model. I've also tried emailing recetep but haven't got a reply. Any help would be appreciated.

A good place to start is http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html I've been sifting through loads of info on this and all I can say to you is..and everyone esle will as well ..do your homework and start a budget BEFORE you start. Personally, I'd keep as much of the old L24 as possible as you never know if you will restore the car in the future.
  24. G'Day all, I'm a New Zealander living abroad for 10 years now all spent in England except for 2 years in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (crazy place). Owned a 72 Datsun 1200 coupe imported from Japan in NZ. Had a mini cooper before that and hated it, I think the Japanese took the mini engine and refined it to make the A series. Never used a imperial socket set since (thank goodness). Next door neighbour in NZ had a 240Z when I was in my early teens.....never stopped wanting one yet. Married with one 2 year old and another due in May (you soon forget those sleepless nights:sleep: Heading back to NZ in September where a 240Z will be the last addition to our family. So I'm just collating as much info as I can before deciding the best route to go before modifying it. Cheers...James

How do you determine a E33 from a N36 manifold? Is there a set place where they are marked?
