i really want to get my rims all super shiny without the expense of chroming. I know with the right buffer and rubbing compound it could be done...just need to know if anyone has done it yet and what products did they use? Ive got the slotted mags on there right now.

V8 in a Z is fine by me...as long as its not a good 240. I dont like the idea of stipping a classic car of what makes it so great. I despise those who buy a restorable Series I 240 and just drop a V8 in it...it just boggles my mind why someone would "destroy" such a collectable car like that. Sure you could say "yeah, i dropped a V8 in this baby." and ppl would respond, but honestly, i get waaaaay more ppl talking about how great the L6 is, plus u dont see many of em, so when u pop to hood and see that big-arse L6 in there ppl go "ooooooo an inline 6 huh?". And lastly...you just cant beat the scream of an L6 at high rpms!

smog exempt law for CA is 25 years (pre 1974) and car model 1974 and later must wait untill its 30 years old to become exempt...so that puts you at 2003 at the earliest, so ur 260z is definitely not smog exempt (i checked this when buying a Z)...but the 240 is definitely the collectors and the best of em all IMO.

yes...the carb problem began with the late 73 240z, the "flat-top" SU's (as they have been named by the Z community) have the problem of meeting emissions requirements of the time. If is a rather simple job to slap on a set of "round-top" SU's...just need all the bits. Either way its still a classic Z, and if its in excellent condition...what are you waiting for?
  6. grantman240z replied to Alfadog's post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
alfadog...i was having the same sort of problem before...but i when i stuck on the MSA turbo exhaust tip it seemed to solve the problem (i think it was exhaust backpressure). It will go up to about 6000...but it still just doesnt feel good for the engine like u said, it doesnt loose power, it just feels like the pistons are gonna go flyin through the engine block or something :disappoin . Ill get a valve job done and see if thats it...but it might also be the ignition secondary. Some other stuff to look at...let me know if u learn anything new.

twice pipes is the MSA dual exhaust kit...you can see it in their catalog

in not exactly sure what your talking about when you say "Z roar". My speculation could also be the intakes (again i dont know what ur talking about) or just the fact that its got an I-6 under the hood...those thing have a different sound then that of a V-6
  9. grantman240z replied to Alfadog's post in a topic in Open Discussions
i dont believe that is the Z from the MSA catalog...the one in the catalog has a different airdam, different hatch spoiler, fog lights, an MSA sticker at the top of the glass, no side skirts, and i dont know why anyone would replace those beautiful panasports with those obnoxious rims.

when i went up to the MSA store (only 30 mins away) they said that those twice pipes are REALLY loud...but they do look killer.
  11. grantman240z replied to 24OZ's post in a topic in Open Discussions
i just put on the MSA turbo exhaust tip for like 60 bucks with the stock header, pre-muffler, and stock sized pipe and its sounds awesome. At idle its got that deep sputtering sound of a V8 but like 2manyZs said...its the V8 that makes the sound...not so much the exhaust. You can make your Z SOUND like a V8 at idle...but also like Zvoiture said...the screaming straight 6 is just awesome and between 3000-4000 rpm is when everyone turns and looks! Ill see if i can get the sound into a .wav file and email it to ya.
  12. only downfall would be finding a suitable path to run the pipe so it would exit the passenger side...youd be better off just having the dual exhaust exit on the driver side and just widen the divot for the pipes in the body

not sure if wood would () work in a Z...i just cant picture it. If you get it done be sure to post pics somewhere, id be interested to see how it looks
  14. anyone notice that this was posted over a year ago? and hes only made 3 posts since march of 2000...tells ya how often hes gonna be back

just FYI...EFI stands for electronic fuel injection. Poke around www.zhome.com for the conversion stuff. I dont doubt that you could turbo a L24-28...but those carbs just wont cut it. Tripple carbs or EFI would be ur best bet. Just some food for thought...
  16. i fixed the problem with mine...and i think it was backpressure from the exhaust. I bought the turbo tip from MSA (the little dual exhaust vertical tip thingie) and now it pulls all the way up past 6000 rpm...plus it sounds awesome! So another thing to try is to check the backpressure in your exhaust sytem if you havent fixed the problem already

if u go to www.zhome.com you can find out what series Z your car is by the VIN
  18. grantman240z replied to McZ's post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
i think i read somewhere that the Z had something to do with Zenith (pinnacle). Something about the Z-car being the pinnacle of sports cars or something...dont quite remember

i think zvoiture is talking rear-wheel HP which is really what you get

there is absolutely no need for that much power in a Z. A V8 will do you perfectly fine especially if you do a good job...id be afraid of the V10 because it would be so damn front heavy!
  22. if your gonna want your car to stay relatively planted on the road...your gonna want to get a front skirt on it. And btw, that is not the original 5-speed in your car. The 240z only came with a 4-speed (the 5-speed wasnt out till the 280z i believe) unless its a fairlady. My old Z had a front skirt and the eibach springs I think i pulled off 115 once for under a minute and if felt very solid....just scary as hell!!!
  23. youll still probably want a new cam and rear-end as 2manyZs said...
  24. dont know which is best....i know both webbers and mikunis are good. But if you plan to drive it everyday u better plan and a big gas budget with those tripples
  25. ive heard of them on a Z before...but im not sure about their performance
