15" VS 16" rims on the 240
i once saw a 240z with 17" rims....but they just dont look good. Too much rim and not enough tire

Dodge Viper engine
i my opinion i think it just sounds awesome to say, "yeah i put a viper engine in it..." instead of just owning a viper. And it would be great to use for a little "surprise" to that porsche/ferrari/viper that challenges you on the road,

Is it possible to 'break even' on a Z...
bought my old 72 240z last September for $2400. I put about $1000 into it and wrecked it. The insurance settlement was $5100! Must have been pretty lucky....

The L-Engine Calculator says....huh?
not sure about the clearance but i would assume that since your increasing the length of the stroke that it would move above deck
-
The L-Engine Calculator says....huh?
see...told ya it would be a compression increase. even 10.6 is pushing it for 91 octane (highest only to 100, at $5 a gallon). I believe 91 octane is rated to fuel a maximum of 10.5:1 compression...but that is pretty much its limit. Your bound to get "pingy" and wont get the full potential out of the engine. But thats only what ive read...not from experience

what cam would you use?
yeah i dont know of any 2.8L bore Kit...but you can bore over the L24 to 2.8L...but it does compromise the integrity of the engine block. All you should need when you do that is bigger pistons and i would recommend putting the L28 valves on.
-
switching differentials......
if your replacing a R180 with a R180 it should be a straight bolt-up without any mods to anything.
-
what cam would you use?
the 3.1L big bore is probably your best bet for the largest increase in power. The cam depends on the kind of driving your going to be doing...i know you want acceleration to kick the $#!+ out of all the other teens on the road, but do you also want it to cruise well? You have alot of things to think through...and please dont do this to a 70...leave them alone for those who would like to restore it. The 72's are the best year anyway. Also keep in mind that eventually you wont want all the performance parts if your truely into the Z. Im almost 17 now and know exactly whats going through ur head. When i got my first Z i wanted to do every performance upgrade in the book, until i drove it for a while and just didnt feel like i needed to and the cost of everything is just not worth it. All the performance mods would be justifiable if you were gonna race, but all ur gonna do are little stoplight skirmishes. Just my few pennies worth....

An Idea....
i doubt that you would gain any increase in displacement at all since displacement is the bore x stroke and you wont be making much of a difference in either one....but you might get better compression but not displacement. Think about it this way...the height and width of they cylinders remain the same, all you are changing are the rods. If you want more displacement boring out the cylinders more is an option, but only to a certain extent.

Having trouble finding wheels...what size will fit?
i know Panasport makes a really nice set of rims...but they may be just a little to expensive
-
the ultimate question
i hear its pretty simple to do. all you need are the parts on its pretty much a bolt up with a few mods...but its supposed to be well worth it! look around www.zhome.com for the mod...it should be around there somewhere
-
the ultimate question
240z...its the lightest and fastest, even without swapping the engine. But you should at least put a 3.9 or 4.11 diff on it.
-
the ultimate question
EXACTLY what kmack said...as it is my stock 240z kills any "rice rocket" at will, its just not that difficult. But with that setup, you wont find a problem beating anything.

Introduce yourself to the class?
amen to that Matt! i just cant stand all these little 4-cylinder hondas/acuras with that crappy sounding exhaust zippin around...all the while they think they're hot $^!# until i blow em out of the water with my 31 year old Z. Man you should see the look their faces...

found a 71 240Z
simply look at the dash and center console. If the cig adapter is next to the steering wheel on the dash...its 72-73. If the cig adapter is on the center console just above the ashtray...youve got a 70-71

Helpful for Scetch ????
sorry to say but you must make 10 posts in order to post a pic...kinda a bummer sounds like a good car

found a 71 240Z
first off...those fumes are to be expected, its just one of those Z things. A really easy way to tell if it is a L26 is to check for the "flattop carbs" unless he put the 71 "roundtops" on it thats your surefire sign. Also check for smog equiment and such. Things to look for...check inside the wheel wells for rust. The water collects in there and just rusts the hell out of it. Lift the carpeting and check for bubbles there also. If you pop the hatch open and look around the weather stripping on the body, rust tends to pop up there as well. Check the frame rails for both rust and bending. Thats all i can think of for now...

A horrible weekend for me
well, we finally received the police report a few weeks back and they put the blame for the accident on my friend...but theyre still recommending that the court try to get us with display of speed (because were teenagers and we all know how much cops hate us) which puts my license on the line. We dont have a court date yet. If you dont already know, i just picked up my new Z a few weeks ago. You can see everything on my post about it "got my new Z". Even if i wont be able to drive it soon (thatll only last till im 18) it still has room for me to work on it. Thanks for checkin in Mike. Grant
