the tach on my 72 240z just doesnt work. the guy who owned it before me had put in a 280zx 5-speed and electronic ignition, i think it has something to do with the transmission. unfortunately, the previous owner was not very thorough in some of his work and decided not to fix the problem. he said it was something about a resistor or some other crap, but it looks like there is a tach output from the distributor cap that isnt connected to anything whatsoever. i dont really need the tach, i just would like to have it working.
  2. just wonderin if anyone has ever hear of, or done, a late model 300zx twin-turbo in a 240z or up to a 280z? still looking for more power and just thought that it would be awesome if it was possible.
  3. i had the same problem with my 72 240z a while back. i though it odd especially since i live in orange county. it wound up being the manual choke. just had to do some adjusting and then i worked beautifully. when the choke is pulled back, it should begin to rev the engine and then u just drive it like that for 5-10 mins and it should be fine.
  4. im looking for some more power in my 72 240z. the V8 came to mind...but i really love the way the original engine runs, it just sounds sweet. two thoughts came to mind, either buying oversized pistons or turbocharging it. i know the turbo would give my way more power but at what cost? would this fry the engine soon? and what kind of modifications would be necessary, besides the turbo kit itself?
