Will the door panels from a 77 280z fit my 74 260z? Rick
  5. Hello, Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 1981 280zx turbo? If you do could you post it or email it to me? Thanks, Rick
  6. Hello, I am not getting spark to the plugs and I need a favor from someone with a 1981 280zx turbo. Can you please take a picture of the coil. I bought the car with a missing distributor and coil and someone hacked some of the wires where the coil is supposed to be. It would be great to be able to see what is supposed to be there. If you could take a close up of the connections around the coil area I would greatly appreciate it!!!!!! I have added a picture of my problem with the wiring. I have included numbers next to the wires I need identified. Thanks, RIck
  7. NOT BAD!!! Thanks! Added it to my favorites Rick
  8. http://www.schlaver.com/zCarGo.html I just thought this might help some of the other newbies as much as it is helping me. Tons of stuff here. Rick

I don't know to much about this stuff but I am trying to understand it. I don't think puting a P90 head would require any modifications (sticking it on a none-turbo engine). To achieve a high compression you need to have flattop pistons. Any modifications are only to achieve higher compression but are not necessary. RIck
  10. I would leave the turbo on it and transplant it into my 260z without a doubt if my 260z already had FI. The FI looks so intimidating!!!!!! If I do decide to stick with the turbo I think the smartest thing for me to do would be to get that engine running before I take it out. That way I know it does indeed work. Can someone with a 280zx tell me what is mounted on the right (drivers side) engine compartment. It looks like it must have been the ignition coil. Could someone maybe take a picture of that so I know what I need to find to replace it. That would be great! Rick
  11. Hello all. I just purchased a 1981 280zx with turbo for 170.00. That was for the whole car with engine! I am going to take the engine and rear end and then junk the rest. I was only looking for a P90 head when I stumbled on this deal. Currently I have a 260z with an engine from a 1977 280z that I converted to carbs. My plan is/was to rebuild the engine and use the P90 head. Now that I have a F54 block and head I have more choices. I could: 1) rebuild F54 and P90 and convert to carb system 2) rebuild F54 and P90 and stick with the FI and turbo What would you guys recommend? If I try the turbo route what should I look for in the car? Looking at it the only thing I see that is missing is the distributor. I would appreciate any input as always. Thanks, Rick.

You're right, I meant carpet. Rick

I have looked at a lot of sites that sell carpet kits for my 260z. I am wondering if the 5pc set is better than the complete set that is formed? I have never done this before so I am not sure the pro's and con's for each. Thanks, Rick

Do I put the tranny oil in with the rest of the oil and let it run for awhile or?? Thanks, Rick

That is a good idea with the Mystery Oil. I was thinking of trying something like that too. I will try it and let you know if that works. Thanks again for the help. Rick
  16. I appreciate the advice from all of you! I think the best thing to do is remove the engine and gut the interior. I will be doing all the work myself so that will save me some money. By all means, I am in no hurry to do this. Hell, it has been sitting for 12 years! I will keep you posted of my progress and I am sure I will have lots of questions. Thanks again! Rick
  17. I have a 1974 260z with a 77 280z motor. Where should I begin the restoration process? My goal is to have a nice interior, paint job, and motor. I am not looking to spend alot of money. The car is rust free right now and the motor is running pretty good. The interior is shot. Should I start on the inside and work my way out? I don't plan on driving this until its done, or at least close. To me it seems like if the inside was redone and smelled nice it would be so much easier to finish the rest. What do you think is the best way to tackle it? I just dont want to do a piece from the inside and then something on the engine and then a little on the body. I would like to start a particular project and finish it before I move to the next. I just don't know where to start. Thanks, Rick

Hello all. I have a 260z that I put a 1977 280z engine in about 12 years ago. I have dual weber carbs on it. The car has sat for the last 12 years and last weekend I finally decided to get it running. I was able to do it by: 1) changing the oil 2) emptying gas from tank and filling it with new gas 3) changing the battery It started after sitting for 12 long years! I did notice that it was running a little hot, or it seems to. Along with that, it is making a tick noise from the heads. Do you think something might be sticking in there because it sat for so long? Maybe the oil got "gunky" and a valve or something is sticking? Twelve years ago it didn't do that....it ran nice. Would you recommend I remove the head and clean it? If so, what is the best method for that? Thanks, Rick
