Z Attack 7 2008
I should have clarified, it was a "one off" event for Nissan in 2001...has it been that long already? He ended up 1st in class and I beleive ahead of a few big bore cars much to the crowd's delight. The following year he was invited to drive an original Daytona Cobra (must be nice) as he has a history with Shelby as well. Did some searching and found this from GRM, 8/01 on the BRE car: The BRE 510 Is Back The original #46 BRE Datsun 510 is back in action with Nissan North America, Inc. behind the project. After sitting for most of the last 30 years, the #46 BRE car—the same one that won 15 out of 21 races during the 1971-’72 SCCA 2.5 Challenge series—is undergoing a mechanical restoration thanks to Nissan so it can return to the track. The car’s original driver, John Morton, will pilot the car once again. Nissan says the car’s restoration will be mostly mechanical, as the complete car will not be rebuilt. In other words, the body will sport 30-year-old dings and brush strokes. Nissan says the car will make its debut at August’s Monterey Historic races. Greg Ira's E Prod 240Z New Look
Greg, the car looks fabulous, and what dedication! I had similar issues with the hood flexing. Originally had one with additional bracing underneath but decided to go with a skin only (10 lbs) and ended up purchasing a dzus fastener kit from Jegs, sharing the fender bolts as mounting points, worked very well: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/82270/10002/-1 I also had almost identical overheating issues when loosing a freeze plug at the drivers school in '04. Some water hit the windsheild, I wasn't sure if it was from the car ahead and pushed on, watching the temp gauge like a hawk the entire time, it didn't go up until it was too late... I never smelled anything in the car either even though the Waterwetter does give off a distintive scent when the car is hot.

Building a 240Z!
Jeff, I'm probably opening a can-o-worms here, but what rpm range do you consider "bad"? I'm assuming 7200-7500. I hope TonyD doesn't mind me using him as a example, but a recent post from him on HybridZ disputes this. He is an accomplished Salt flat racer and states: The crank harmonic discussed online is more related to the early cranks that were not properly counterweighted. both the cranks in the Bonneville Car: Pulled out of the junkyard, polished journals, magnafluxed, and bobweight balanced. No polishing of the counterweights, no knife-edging, no cryotreating. Just a standard prep and good balance on a 163,000 miles L28 Crank. Standard timing chain set, nothing fancy there either! He also went on to state it was used for over 4 seasons without any issues. I also knew someone who maintainined a CProd car in the late 70's-early 80's who claimed a 9500 (not a typo) rpm redline with an untouched stock crank and ZERO issues.

Goodyear Takeoffs
Yes, cantilevered, the Hoosiers of the same size specifiy a 6-7" width. Better late then never, but Greg, left you a PM, I'm interested!

A new source for steering u-joints!!!
Good news, the u-joints are finally available! These aren't technically a "plug and play" replacement but can be made to fit the Z with minor welding/fabrication. I'm trying to establish a group buy on HybridZ. I've tried to answer all of the installation questions there as well: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?p=827486#post827486

Ira & Marvin win the SE Div ECR ITS Championship
Surprisingly my employer's insurance did not have any issues with my W2W racing, but I did just start a new job and ended up having to forfeit the last 3 races of the year due to the absence of short/long term disability; it was a drag. With that said, congrats Greg and Marvin, I'm never ceased to be amazed by how well the 'ole Z still does. And as usual, outstanding photos by jmark, I wish he was taking pics at our events too...
