    Lemons/ChumpCar

It seems the OEM Nissan head gasket is still supreme. I'd recomend this with ARP studs over a Felpro or others, sorry but I don't have a p/n off hand.
  2. Rfactor is a great program, I highly recommend it. With that said I don't play it too often anymore, mainly for track familiarization prior to a race weekend. From what I've read the G25 is probably the best wheel out there with the Thomas Superwheel (which I have) being a close second. The TSW has an advantage from a longevity standpoint and the pots are replaceable. I've been contemplating building a setup like yours using the Kirkey seat out of the race car and upgrading the race car's in the process. Anyway I downloaded the Historic GT & Touring Cars Mod I haven't looked back, an outstanding addition. An S30 would be right at home in it too. Yours is looking good, I look forward to driving it. BTW, TSW has some frames for sale on their website too, they look pretty good:
  3. Thought you guys might like to see this, Prather (Q-P2) posted some in-car footage from the EP race: Not that it matters, but the #52 blue/white RX7 2nd Gen @ 1:49, 5:17, & 7:16 was my instructor at the MC school in '04, Jeff Willert.
  4. Oh, here's the same race from Bill's perspective:
  5. Thanks again for the kind words. I find that's the most entertaining part. You can also see how often I'm looking back.. too often. Usually a cool customer behind the wheel but he had me a little nervous. My last time against him was in '05 when first starting and was much slower. I've discussed the car in the past, they (him & brother) have owned it since '79: I was on Hoosier R6's, IT spec 225/50/15s. Concerning the over exposure, I've read others have had the same problem. I did not with my last setup but the the camera lens wasn't as wide. I don't think it's a focus issue, but we'll see. I forgot to mention, everything is mounted solid. Yeah, VIR is on "the list" too. I have it on rfactor, a blast! Someday...
  6. Thanks for the kind words guys. Next season I'll have some which are a little more watchable. Yeah, traffic and lack of blue flags was discouraging to say the least, worse than usual. The "SRF" is actually a Mallock - similar to a Lotus 7 with fewer production numbers. All in all a pretty cool car, I wouldn't mind owning one. Around here RA is Road America;) Kidding aside, I'd love to enjoy some southern hospitality. Road Atlanta is definitely on the "to do list". Unfortunately I don't see it happening next year but perhaps in '11... Sad, I'm already planning 2 years out Thanks but unfortunately any tracks nationwide will be confined to SVRA/HSR sanctioned events, assuming all goes well with them next year.
  7. Thought I'd liven up the forum a bit. Kinda crappy footage though, I need to tint the windshield portion of the camera lens as it's overexposed. You may still find it entertaining.
  8. I'm reminded of this one: A few 4x4's: I'm sorry, but the Evel Kenievil z is ugly.
  9. I had no idea the '67's were that rare/valuable, which made me doubtful his was, I revisited the race results... it's an SRL311 '68 model. The '67 figure must have come up when we were chatting about the production history, etc. Sorry for the false info. :embarrass: With that said I'm fairly sure it's race history still dates back to when the car was purchased.
  10. I hear ya. FWIW, the car I have linked is also a '67.5 with an extensive history similar to yours.
  11. Same situation with the roadster guys in my club, the seat's down as far as possible and yet they sit up so high. I was thinking maybe a seat with a higher layback, but that would probably require some rollbar alterations. Dunno if it's legal, or if anyone would be up to cutting the car, but I was thinking the only solution would be welding a recess into the floor, might get you a few inches. On a side note, one of our members was dubbed "the roadster from nowhere" this year. He dropped an honest 4 second off his lap times and had his first front row start with me, quite the happy camper.
  12. Have you made any changes recently, like maybe remove the AC? There's a vacuum operated coolant valve on the inside of the firewall opposite of the coolant inlet. You could put a mightyvac or something on that, it worked for me
  13. Wow, replying a thread that's 7 years old, maybe a new record! There's quite a few kits out there nowadays which use the 240SX setup and of course the higher end ones using Wilwoods, etc like AZ zcar. I'd like to see some cheaper race-only setups which don't bother the infernal parking brake. A question I've been meaning to ask, does anyone offer a bracket which allows the front calipers to be placed on the rears?
  14. I reluctantly have to agree. If I was to start over again I'd probably go that path. A well tuned 240 is lighter (200 lbs per SVRA rules) and arguably better handling. It will give the 260-280 a run for its money.
  15. I wish I could but now that I'm going to SVRA next year they're calling for stock control arms. For both appearance sake and simplicity I figured Delrin is a good choice. I actually have poly bushings on the AZ control arms now (which will be for sale shortly) but I like to run 0 toe at the rear and it's always been a bit squirly under braking, I'm hoping this will help. The more I think about it I'll probably have to buy some stock and have someone locally machine it. Unfortunately for me my old source decided to change career paths and I'm still searching for a new go-to guy.
  16. Thanks John, I was hoping for someone like yourself who could replicate something. FWIW with outer rod ends I don't need them offset.
  17. I searched a bit an didn't come up with anything. I don't want to deal with machining a set and I'm looking for a supplier of Delrin bushings for the inner rear control arms. Any leads?
  18. Yup, SVRA wants an all steel body including hood. The traditional BRE spoilers (front and rear) are available at Motorsport Auto. front: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7AD1/50-1522 rear: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7APP08/50-1527 SVRA allows the later style front spoiler/airdam in their 74-78 260/280Z rules, also in group 8 but a/p, b/p: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7AD1/50-1402 rules: http://svra.com/SVRA/SVRAHome.nsf/attachmentweb/EJEN-67XNFX/$file/Datsun+240Z.pdf http://svra.com/SVRA/SVRAHome.nsf/attachmentweb/EJEN-67XNFY/$file/Datsun+260Z-280Z.pdf You're allowed some flexibility with suspension stuff such as coil-overs, but stock control arms are required, i.e. no fabricated tubular ones.
  19. Any pics? I checked the results, the 4th place finisher was Fred Seitz, no disrespect to him but 14 seconds from 1st place. He's been racing that car for quite a few years, I used to autocross with him in the late 90's at Miller Park in Milwaukee. From a quick search of greyghost's gallery: It's fairly safe to say if Gerry was there with his #3 BRE car he would have mopped up the field. Hopefully next year I'll be at that event, bittersweet though, I've been approved for SVRA group 6 (big bore group) as they didn't like the dry sump.
  20. Thanks Ron, entertaining, glad you got the Alfa, missed shift? Interesting course, autocross-ish in some respects. Good to see Adam out there too, he seems like a cool guy to hang out with. Another member here posted some interview vids with him: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35976

    airbox

I'm occasionally asked for close up pics of the airbox so... Originally I did not have the oil cooler vane installed but after the windtunnel discussion on HybridZ decided to. The end result was at least a 10 degree drop in oil temps!

    Quaife

I'd suggest Taylor as well, they're top notch and competitively priced, at least when I bought mine. No personal experience with a clutch style, but I installed a temp probe in my R200/Quaife last year. My first event was unseasonably cool (70's), I was the last race group of the afternoon so it had cooled to ambient temp, and it still hit 300 at the end of a half hour session - this with the 300zxt finned diff cover too. Needless to say a cooler went on shortly thereafter. Prior to that I was changing the fluid every race and I can only imagine the temps.
  23. The ranch - where my ponies live
  24. My new airbox - I was shooting for "mostly clean" air with the design. The car runs much better than before with the more enclosed box.
