  1. I had no idea the '67's were that rare/valuable, which made me doubtful his was, I revisited the race results... it's an SRL311 '68 model. The '67 figure must have come up when we were chatting about the production history, etc. Sorry for the false info. :embarrass: With that said I'm fairly sure it's race history still dates back to when the car was purchased.
  2. I hear ya. FWIW, the car I have linked is also a '67.5 with an extensive history similar to yours.
  3. Same situation with the roadster guys in my club, the seat's down as far as possible and yet they sit up so high. I was thinking maybe a seat with a higher layback, but that would probably require some rollbar alterations. Dunno if it's legal, or if anyone would be up to cutting the car, but I was thinking the only solution would be welding a recess into the floor, might get you a few inches. On a side note, one of our members was dubbed "the roadster from nowhere" this year. He dropped an honest 4 second off his lap times and had his first front row start with me, quite the happy camper.

Have you made any changes recently, like maybe remove the AC? There's a vacuum operated coolant valve on the inside of the firewall opposite of the coolant inlet. You could put a mightyvac or something on that, it worked for me

Wow, replying a thread that's 7 years old, maybe a new record! There's quite a few kits out there nowadays which use the 240SX setup and of course the higher end ones using Wilwoods, etc like AZ zcar. I'd like to see some cheaper race-only setups which don't bother the infernal parking brake. A question I've been meaning to ask, does anyone offer a bracket which allows the front calipers to be placed on the rears?

I reluctantly have to agree. If I was to start over again I'd probably go that path. A well tuned 240 is lighter (200 lbs per SVRA rules) and arguably better handling. It will give the 260-280 a run for its money.
  7. I wish I could but now that I'm going to SVRA next year they're calling for stock control arms. For both appearance sake and simplicity I figured Delrin is a good choice. I actually have poly bushings on the AZ control arms now (which will be for sale shortly) but I like to run 0 toe at the rear and it's always been a bit squirly under braking, I'm hoping this will help. The more I think about it I'll probably have to buy some stock and have someone locally machine it. Unfortunately for me my old source decided to change career paths and I'm still searching for a new go-to guy.
  8. Thanks John, I was hoping for someone like yourself who could replicate something. FWIW with outer rod ends I don't need them offset.
  9. I searched a bit an didn't come up with anything. I don't want to deal with machining a set and I'm looking for a supplier of Delrin bushings for the inner rear control arms. Any leads?

Yup, SVRA wants an all steel body including hood. The traditional BRE spoilers (front and rear) are available at Motorsport Auto. front: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7AD1/50-1522 rear: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7APP08/50-1527 SVRA allows the later style front spoiler/airdam in their 74-78 260/280Z rules, also in group 8 but a/p, b/p: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7AD1/50-1402 rules: http://svra.com/SVRA/SVRAHome.nsf/attachmentweb/EJEN-67XNFX/$file/Datsun+240Z.pdf http://svra.com/SVRA/SVRAHome.nsf/attachmentweb/EJEN-67XNFY/$file/Datsun+260Z-280Z.pdf You're allowed some flexibility with suspension stuff such as coil-overs, but stock control arms are required, i.e. no fabricated tubular ones.

Any pics? I checked the results, the 4th place finisher was Fred Seitz, no disrespect to him but 14 seconds from 1st place. He's been racing that car for quite a few years, I used to autocross with him in the late 90's at Miller Park in Milwaukee. From a quick search of greyghost's gallery: It's fairly safe to say if Gerry was there with his #3 BRE car he would have mopped up the field. Hopefully next year I'll be at that event, bittersweet though, I've been approved for SVRA group 6 (big bore group) as they didn't like the dry sump.
  12. Thanks Ron, entertaining, glad you got the Alfa, missed shift? Interesting course, autocross-ish in some respects. Good to see Adam out there too, he seems like a cool guy to hang out with. Another member here posted some interview vids with him: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35976

I'd suggest Taylor as well, they're top notch and competitively priced, at least when I bought mine. No personal experience with a clutch style, but I installed a temp probe in my R200/Quaife last year. My first event was unseasonably cool (70's), I was the last race group of the afternoon so it had cooled to ambient temp, and it still hit 300 at the end of a half hour session - this with the 300zxt finned diff cover too. Needless to say a cooler went on shortly thereafter. Prior to that I was changing the fluid every race and I can only imagine the temps.
  15. Unfortunately Greg wasn't able to pull it off. I watched the live web cast, which was very good BTW. The race weather started off with a sprinkle but degraded quickly from there, it rained quite heavily at times thereafter. Just going off my memory, Brakke spun in T1 on lap1, Prather went off in T8 also on lap1 (maybe lap2). Greg, who I'm assuming was on full slicks, kept it in check but was soon passed by a few guys and later came in to change tires. Looks like he set fast lap of the race after, finished 9th. Here are the results: http://www.scca.com/popup/raceresult.aspx?event=13506&file=1008 I can't help but be happy for the race winner, Sam Halkias and his TR6. He's been racing that car FOREVER and usually a mid-pack car at most runoffs IIRC. Prather had his car painted in Tom Thrash livery and flew the Texas state flag on the warm up lap, nice touch.
  16. I never tire of seeing the car, beautiful, and thanks for the photo links Alan. A dream venue of mine, I hope to make it there one of these years. The sounds of vintage race cars at speed AND Merlin powered aircraft.. heaven!
  17. Thanks for the update. Great news, .1 seconds is a huge improvement over 3 at the Sprints. Interesting note about his competitors, I would've thought Brakke was the guy to beat. Many years ago I mounted 240 bumpers on my 280. I simply sandblasted them inside and out, welded all the trim holes etc, skimmed a coat of bondo on, and painted. They turned out pretty good. Sandblasting aids paint adhesion as well.
  19. No hard feelings personally, I was only joking thinking it was a misprint. Nonetheless it sounds like a wild ride, any pics?

Try some searches, there were some very good rebuilding posts by a member both here and on Hybridz, wanna say his user name was hisandhers on both sites. To reiterate, quite often simply replacing the brass synchros themselves won't entirely cure the grinding problem as the synchro hub springs tend to "relax" over time. Zdoctor - last I checked he hung out on zcar.com, sells some stiffer stainless replacement springs. I picked up a set from him but have yet to use them and can't offer any first hand experience. Here's his website, but last time I tried to contact him the email listed was invalid: http://www.thezdoctor.com/ EDIT: Welcome BTW!
