  1. I'd say your right and that his not knowing what he's on about is the most likely cause for the misinformation. As long as he passes the convertible I'll be happy. Any news on the new supplier?
  2. I'd be happy to help for free, but as Stephen pointed out there is no such thing as a left hand drive C110 in Australia so I can't really do anything for you.
  3. Why do you want the 4 door instead of the 2 door anyway?
  4. That all depends what kind of surprise you have in store for her
  5. Yeah, Rare Spares are quite good. They specialise in early model parts for aussie made cars. I've bought parts from 3 different stores in NSW and QLD and never had an issue. You would be able to trust them as an over seas buyer and not lose sleep worrying about if they even bothered to send it or not. In saying that it's the shipping companies you would need to worry about. I'm guessing that you could find a similar product for a cheaper price (when shipping is included) in the US, I'd be very surprised if this wasn't the case.

Post some photo's of your K and the turbo setup
  7. This week only, bonus double points for any granmother pushing a pram run over :cheeky: points will be tripled if it's twins in the pram
  8. Why do you want a driveable one close to Cairns? Have I made the wrong assumption that you want to buy a Z?
  9. QLD transport require ADR compliance on the bonnet and guards, regardless of weather or not they are carbon or glass. If they did not have the stamp you would need to get a mechanical lab at a uni to test them. The RTA frontal impact regulations came into play in 1995 so I'm not sure what my engineer is talking about with the 1988 date, I guess he's just being picky with my car or he simply doesn't know. All you need to worry about in NSW are sharp edges on them so any pedestrians you choose to run over won't get cut.
  10. I'll keep an eye out for you but don't know of any at the moment. Keep searching these websites www.tradingpost.com.au www.carsales.com.au www.drive.com.au www.uniquecars.com www.ebay.com.au
  11. I think it was the same for both. Did the RTA say that the bonnet or guards would need to be engineer passed for rego? If they were fine for rego they would most likely fall into the owner certified section of regulations, maybe the engineer is being picky with me due to the nature of the modifications on the vert. We need to investigate further i suppose. I'll call up QLD transport authority tomorrow to see what the regs are up here.
  12. I spoke with the engineer who's doing my car today and he mentioned a couple of things i would have to address before he would pass a carbon bonnet and guards on the vert. Bare in mind this is for NSW only. The bonnet would have to have reinforcing around the mounting points and would have to have two split pins along the front, the standard clip wouldn't suffice. The split pins would also have to be recessed below the line of the bonnet as well. With the guards he saw no problem. This only applies to cars pre 1988 after that different rules apply which I didn't bother asking about. Adz's can you ask them about making some extra recessed mounting points along the front of the bonnet. Noodle, it's easy to paint fibreglass you just need to key up the surface and away you go, no etch priming. What's difficult with fibreglass is that to get the panels looking straight it takes a lot more effort than steel and over time they will warp and distort leaving you with a wavy, rippled reflection in them.
  13. I hope you weren't in the garage looking for the parts i asked for when you broke the windscreen. Did you call up Novus looking for the screen? I did the same thing as you and called everyone until I found Novus could sell me one for $160. I had to drive 30min to pick it up though.
  14. That's the best idea yet. Put me down for carbon guards, bonnet and front lip. I don't think I'll get the bobtail or grill.
  15. I can think of a few more than 2 nice C110's in Aus, I guess it depends on what you call nice. Alfa's is in the Middle East so your down to one.
  16. Interesting that they want the sedans, I sold a registered running sedan C110 to some arabs for $400ish back in 02. I should've asked more for it. If I had the spare cash I'd grab it but I'm about to buy my first house. Now I've thought about getting a spare datsun I'd probably get a Z like you instead of another K.
  17. I know Fibreglass can be cut easily, I've had plenty of the stuff on my arms itching away. I'm interested in weather carbon fiber can be cut easily or will it splinter.
  18. You need glasses Kent, the grill is the std 240k colour What a rip off, although if it had no rust whatsoever and was very straight it might be worth 10K. Has anyone sent him an email telling him he's dreaming?
  19. Why is she wearing the GL badges? Have you had any buyers in oz? just wondering if another K will be on it's way to the middle east.
  20. I'm up for a set of carbon guards and and bonnet pending prices. If the carbon is too expensive for me I might just be after the guards as mine are well stuffed. I would need to get the carbon guards made GT-R style though and slightly different at the end due to the chassis rails I have in the vert. If they couldn't do the GT-R higher wheel arch cut out for the flared guards they would be useless to me. . . unless carbon can be cut cleanly and easily? has anyone cut any carbon fiber before?
  21. It's not that hard to do a full resto but it is very, very time consuming. I undertook a full resto on my convertible back in the start of 05 and i'm only nearly finished now, albeit with a few more modifications than I envisaged at the beginning of the rebuild. I bought a welder and compressor (with no knowledge or experience of how to use them) and went from there. Now that i've nearly finished I'm very happy with the skills I have learn't. Be prepared to spend a whole lot more $$$ than you plan as tools, materials and consumables will add up to a lot. Do not add up how much time you've put into it as this will only make you unhappy. My advice is unless you have good friends who know about cars and are willing to help out it might be better to just lightly sand it back and fix any rust spots and drive it around. A back to bare steel resto takes a lot of time, it takes longer to blow/suck the blasting medium out of the car than it does to blast it back to steel in the first place. Make sure your committed to the task before starting or you'll end up as another "unfinished project" on ebay selling for half what it has cost you. Cheers Andrew

I've seen them go for the $150 a few times, I laugh as I only paid $80 for my momo. In saying that one (datsun wheel) just sold for $20.50 the other week. You can also get a police number for a car with no id tags. A mate did it with his Wilkie.

Looks like we'll need to get the "Save S30 #2" T-Shirts made up to save this Z, anyone know a good screen printer?
  24. There's a lot of work there to do and it's in some very hard to weld places. You will need to make up some fancy pieces of steel to fix it. To be totally honest I'd advise you to buy it as a parts car and search out a better body as there is hours upon hours of work just in the roof alone. I'd be amazed if the sills weren't rusted quite badly too. The problem you have is the holes in the roof will let water go down inside the pillars and into the inside of the sills where it will sit and rust. Buy it and then get the grinder & screwdriver out and find out how much usable steel is left in the roof and pillars, then decide weather or not to keep it or strip it.

I've had shells scraped off my garage floor in Sydney and onto tilt trays so you shouldn't have any worries there. I didn't get paid for mine as it was just a bare shell (engine suspension gone) and didn't have too much steel left in it. If I was you I'd advertise on ebay that you have a C110 that someone can come out to your house and strip it (while on the trailer) for the suspension parts. It would be really bad of you not to get at least the front struts off.
