New Truck?
No salt on the roads here in Washington state, which is nice. Sounds like the wax sealer is a scam, thanks Coastguardz. To combat rust/scratches/wear and tear in the bed of my truck, I am definitely going to invest in this product. http://www.linexnw.com/ Will let you all know how it goes when I get it done.

New Truck?
A little off z topic, but a car question. I just bought a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The dealer suggested an option of a clearcoat seal to protect the paint. They say the truck will never need to be waxed and the paintjob will never fade. They also treat the underside of the vehicle for protection and road noise reduction. It aint cheap, around $600. Is it worth it?

For you Seattle Seahawk fans...........
Also noticed after taking another look at the pics that the seahawk decals are damaged. I'm betting it would be near impossible to repair/replace those decals.

I'm a Seahawk fan, but wow, that is a steep price, especially with the condition the car is in. Hard to guage if the uniqueness of the car is worth the price, maybe if it was in better condition. I dont think anyone in their right mind will pay $12,500 for it. Go Hawks!

What club features do you like or want?
In the members list a search query for location so one could find local z enthusiasts and how about a link to the member's gallery when you click on their user name?

What are your favorite Quotes?
"I'm a simple soldier, I fight where I'm told and I win where I fight." Patton "The luck is gone, the brain is shot but the liquor we still got." From the movie Cocktail. I also love country sayings, or southernisms, you could start a new thread for them, there are so many: Happy as a puppy with 2 peckers. Colder than a witch's teet. Hotter than a snakes arse. Nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full o' rocking chairs. Faster than $^!# through a goose. etc, etc.......................................

how bad is the rust here?
Here's a hint on checking for bondo. Take a small magnetized screwdriver with you. Stick the magnet on the car body/frame at suspected areas, if there is bondo under there the magnet will barely stick or wont stick at all if w/ a thick patch of bondo. Like Beandip said above, really look at the frame rails, you can tell if the car has been in a major front end collision and if rust has eaten through those rails you may want to look for another Z. Happy hunting.

nobody ever posts here. Anyone from Texas?
I've got time on my hands, but not that much. May be a good idea to make location a search query in the members dbase.

Proper way to test alternator
The alternator tested out, about 12.5 volts or so. For you rookies like me, the best results come from putting the Neg voltmeter probe on the neg battery terminal. The frame may have paint, rust or dirt and give a bad reading. Now my next question. As per my last post, the previous owner thought the wire from the alternator to battery was bad and battery was not getting recharged. Does this wire run from the A terminal or the N/F terminal? -Tim

Proper way to test alternator
Hello all, Novice car guy here, especially w/ electronics. But, I am very excited about my new 1971 240z and am eager to learn. Based on info from previous owner, the battery is not being re-charged by alternator due to a bad wire from alt to battery. He said he tested alternator and it was fine. My battery is charged, headlights turn on etc. Want to make sure I am doing the alt test right (The Brit slang in my Haynes manual may be throwing me off). 1. Disconnect Alt leads (From E and A terminals???) 2 W/ voltmeter put + probe on A terminal and ground Neg (ground on frame or on E terminal???) and check for battery voltage, 12 volts. 3. turn on headlights 4. start car, repeat step 2, if alt is good should read between 12 and 14 volts. Does this sound about right? Any other tricks/tips? Thanks in advance, Tim

New 240z owner
Thanks for all the well wishes, and let me tell you, it is great to be home. One of my soldiers came over and helped me push my baby out of the tow dolly and into the garage, a funny site seeing two hobbled vets pushing a car around. Once in the garage I just had to sit back, suck down a few beers and just stare at that beautiful car. Definately hope to run into fellow NW guys at a rally or something. -Tim

New 240z owner
Well, I finally found the right Z, after 14 years of looking. The pics are from the seller, I'll have new ones as soon as I get her into the garage. She is still stuck in the tow dolly with starter/alternator/battery issues. I have some buddies coming over to help me push it out. About me, well where to begin. I am recovering from injuries sustained in Iraq and am partially disabled, for the time being. I have been married for a year to a great gal, I have a bloodhound named Annabelle (see avatar) and I hope to someday enjoy the things I did before I was hurt, such as fly fishing, camping and taking my dog for a walk. I have a year or so of recovery left so I have lots of time to spend on my Z and will be seeking the great advice that is found on this site. -Tim

Towing a 240z
I'm towing it a couple hundred miles, will probably pony up and get the double axle trailer. Thx for all the input.
-
Towing a 240z
Its a manual trans. I didnt check the price on full trailer where a 4 wheels on the trailer, but the dolly was on $40 so that is appealing.

Towing a 240z
I am planning on using a dolly that will leave the rear wheels spinning in neutral on the road. Will I screw the transmission? Thanks.
