is $499 a good price for tokico illumnia struts & springs?
Hey Julio - I have the same setup as Steve, I agree, they will lower nicely from stock and handles very well. Not the setup if you want a comfortable ride on a rough road though.

Tricks to get the windshield trim back in
Hmmm... it is very important to lubricate the rubber befor insertion, spread the lips, then you have to slide the tool in slowly at just the right angle. Go slowly to start. If you deviate it could get kinky. It sounds familiar somehow.

I can hardly see my 240K
Quite a project. Most of our Zs looked quite different when started than what they are now, so I wouldn't worry about appearance too much. Good luck.

Tricks to get the windshield trim back in
I took mine to a glass shop (Speedy auto Glass) - they told me it was simple and then proceeded to bend/crease the trim (one) and tore the rubber lip in several places. I was quite pissed + $40 charge.

Bob Sharp GT KIt
Hey Enrique - It's ok to say you had one like it or maybe wanted one. You don't have to dance around it (in platforms), just spit it out. I can hear Donna Summers climaxing now in quadraphonic sound from that "awesome" sideshow - She feels love. While I'm kinda pickin up what your layin down - I got to say though this one is over the top - even by 70s standards. I did the 70's thing in a stock 71 Z (which drew sufficient attention for me) and saw some interesting Z mods - flairs and wide tires, no bumpers and a few odd colours - but this is more roller derby than disco. I think this would have been considered ugly even then. Austin Powers would have given this a double take. Now to say something nice: rear suspension looks very clean.

Looks like it came out a Barnum Baily parade. Might be history, but it's not one of Z's proudest moments. Kinda like platform shoes.

EFI - periodic rough idle and shut down
You are right Ron - Spent a half hour last night reading the manual, prodding and jiggling wires. Seems that my EFI harness is a little on the brittle side with some repairs evident from the past. It looks like the water temperature sensor connector is the same type as for the injector. I am thinking new connections might do the trick, but thinking I will end up doing all connections as the injectors all need to be done as well. My harness has some splices in it already - wondering if it is more practical to replace the entire harness.

You're makin me blush Ron. Where are you located? (don't say Toronto - you have to narrow it down) - I have family in Hagarsville.

The price of gas is a lead foot deterent for most. He'll figure it out the first time he puts gas in it.

Cool Things about this Club!
Although boobs is an impressive drawing card I have to say that the administration of the site is great and the membership's international flavour appeals most to me. The fact that there are guys here that will take the time out of their day to advise me and even go as far as to go veiw potential purchases for their Z peers in remote areas (such as me - thanks again by the way) impresses me as well.

16 yesterday , learners permit today !
I can speak of a child driving a Z because I was about 18 when I bought my 71 (in Victoria BC). I am amazed today still by the fact that I survived. I was definately overwhelmed by the car, but managed to get a way with only a couple of relatively minor accidents (<$2000 - the car only cost $3000). I did get some tickets, but the devil/car made me do it. Although I was inclined to behave poorly in the car I have to say I truely loved it - so I believe that your boy will enjoy it. Would have been pretty neat if my Dad had ponyed up for a Z when I was that age. My kids - I have four: two oldest girls did driver training, youngest girl is doing driver training now and one boy who is 14 - couple of years to go for him yet, but he seems to have very little interest. I had to talk the girls into getting their licences - none of them were interested and neither has had an accident either (yet - fingers crossed). A big truck (4x4) is a safer choice IMO. Good luck

Mpg....
Definately porportional to the weight of your right foot, I am getting similar numbers (taking into account the gallon unit). I know I could do better, but due to the fact that it is a toy, I sometimes can't help hammering the s--t out of it and consequently have to accept the higher fuel consumption. It is cheaper for me to drive my 5.4 (327 cu"?) litre F150 (18" wheels, HD rear end for towing) most of the time. BTW fuel here is $1.35 a litre. Not much sympathy for 3.80 a gallon.

bumpers...
Carefull with that decision. I have seen it both ways but recently pushed my car into the shed and couldn't stop her rolling in time to avoid a bump. I believe that low speed bumper saved me some cash then and a couple of other times. I like the period gear anyway, but it does have a practical reason for being there.

EFI - periodic rough idle and shut down
Thanks guys for the excellent tips - I think am going to have to look at the tank anyway (after trying a few of the tips) - it is the original and to my knowledge has never beeen cleaned. It may take a while (as I am back at work right now), but I will advise you if and when I find the problem. I may start a new thread on gunk found inside a gas tank.

EFI - periodic rough idle and shut down
I have been getting a periodic hesitation when under load for the past year or so. From time to time it will provoke a roadside stall. It is grossly inconsistant and once done, all symptoms disappear for several hundred miles. Since I removed her from storage I have had the problem severely on two occasions. Symptoms: sputtering over three grand that works it's way back down to idle speed - leaving me on the side of the road billowing dark smoke from the exhaust while missing like a son of a bitch. The smoke has a very strong smell of gas (according to the guy following me). She will konk out after a while and eventually starts and may even run fine. The manual places me checking voltages pretty quick. I am thinking it may be a dirty fuel issue, as befor I had the worst episode I inadvertantly ran the tank quite low - next day - trouble. Any thoughts - similar experiences?

First drive of the year!
Put another ninety on her today , lots of turning heads and a few thumbs up. Even saw a mother of two prim herself for my datsun - saw her pull up beside me at a corner store when I was leaving the gas pumps, she sized up the car and gave me a look. I turned around to head back to the house - moving around her stern and passing up the opposite side. I had to take one tiny glimpse on the way around to see what she looked like - she was looking straight at me - hair primmed, glasses off and a big smile. A lovely looking woman - shoulder length dark hair. The power of the Datzun Z. I love this car. I was pretty lucky otherwise as well - saw several people pulled over for speeding. I really had to talk myself down, even with the new 5 spd tranny she still pulls great, I have a speeding ticket coming - no fortune teller required for that one. Won't be tommorow though - rain again. Chin up Bigoak - you'll one of them out. I'm gonna clock what ever I can get on her this year, befor a mortgage is required to purchase a tank of gas. Spring has sprung the flowers has ris, I wonder where all the birdies is. Newfoundland poetry - unknown author.

First drive of the year!
Three foot of snow in the back yard - moved it away from the shed over the past several days with the snowblower. The roads have seen many days of rain and the temperature hit 8 degrees. It's time. Finally got the first run in for this year and it was excellent. I put 70 miles on her befor I ran out of things to do/excuses for bombing around. In the first five minutes I noticed a front end wobble - checked the lugs and found I had one stripped and two loose - go figure. It seemed fine when stowed for the winter. Anyway the stud was good enough to thread an older lug onto it. Other than that she ran like a champion - perfect. Forecast is good for tomorrow again so I'm getting up early and dropping the woman off and Zoom zoom (mazda is three Zooms). I'll burn a tank of gas doing nothing in particular other than driving and listening to tunes. Can't wait! Hope the rest of you northerners are getting some action too.:classic:

I found #1678 with 2400 OHC Valve Cover
Hey Ron - thats an interesting perspective. It creates a real time contrast to the lost beauties and the survivors. Kinda like a picture of a beautiful woman in advanced years - if you have a love for the object/person you will still see it's/her beauty. Very artsi fartsi, but real as well. I like it. You impressed me today.
