  1. The 280Z is a great car - what can you find today for six grand that is better. If she is what she appears to be, it's a great deal. "BUT" For me, I would not bid 10 cents till I saw the undercarriage, floors, framerails, battery tray, hatch closure ...... . No matter how it looks, it's an east coast car.
  2. You guys probably have it solved, but I have to mention I was using original wheels and wheel covers first when I got the 77 - balanced wheels, all new front end gear, wheel alignment - went for a drive - same as you described. Took a while to see it, but tried without wheel covers - perfect. Ended up buying wheels.

One sweet young thing and a bunch of old farts. This a self portrait of the "old fart and the sea" - I have the camera precariously balanced on top of a fan, while the ship rolls around mid Atlantic. Taken at 2 30 pm today sent to you via satilite.

I'm with you Gregg - for comedy "Super Bad" is the film of the year so far. Only thing was, I didn't realize how raunchy it would be and I took my son and his freinds. I had a few moments of uncertainty, but the laugh factor was too compelling to leave. My favorite character was definately Mclovin.

Thats a good point that Red Dog makes - you will broaden the feild quite a bit if you look at the later Zs. The 260 and 280 are still Zs and with a fuel injected version the reliability seems to improve. Prices are generally better on the later versions as well.

I'ld say for 10K + 2k (delivery) + 1k overhaul you would have very nice car. The engines are very tough and reliable (once tuned) so I would focus on getting a "good body" with a running engine (under 100K MILES). Look in California for the largest numbers - that seems to be where the premium units are (Arizona good, but not so much). Once you have it 1k should have you on the road. Check Zhome.com for tips I am constantly looking and they are out there under 10K ready for the road. If I resided in California my yard would be a Z showroom.
  9. I think they are off the batmobile.

  11. I'ld say it's going to be an expensive parts car.

Interesting to note that the early 240s also had that elevated suspension. I have heard it refered to as a 280 thing - guess not. Looks like she spotted a mouse. Great post.
  13. The painted rockers and wheel well lip could be an indication of trouble.

They are the single biggest road hazard around here (other than crappy drivers), every year there are dozens of car/moose accidents. It would be a disaster to hit one in a Z, as you can imagine. These are relatively small. Still - nice to look at.

Hey thanks Dan, she has flaws but they are not too noticable in the shot. I can get pretty flukey with a camera every now and then.

Definately not cars - they are back again tonight. I had to scare them off ten minutes ago, they are eating the tips off my birch trees:ermm: It's not very scary at first, but when you get closer (20 feet) trying to drive them, time slows down some, it's a little un-nerving.

If I lived down there I would have a yard full of cars. Occasionally I forget how plentiful older Zs are down there. Saving the originality of the car is less relevent to you when it is so easy to get another. I paid over 3K just to get one shipped up here. I would have been/be very excited to have a #s matching 71. Good luck

Hey Guys and Gals - Just a few minutes ago looked out the window and what did I see by my garage? A cow and calf moose eating my trees. Happens several times a year. Check it out. Actually I think they were here for the purple flowers

All that being said, why not just keep it in the backyard under a tarp - there's not much cash to be made from it. If you sell your car someday it will add some value (if only to broaden the base of potential buyers). Most people interested in an older car to restore like matching numbers or at least to have the option.
  21. Sorry - misunderstood the issue, as you can tell. Thats a whole different ball of wax, gets a too technical for me.
  22. I don't think I would switch from FI, it is very reliable.
