Advice on potential 280z purchase
Hey KD, there's alot of stuff you have to accept with any older cars or for that matter second hand cars. For Zs It's very likely that the shifter bushings will be toast or showing wear - its not a big deal, but may make a nube uncertain as to the state of the tranny, crappy tires (what you mention is true) occasionally mean the seller hasn't ever rotated them or replaced a blowout with junk to have four full of air. Hoses, belts, brakes and clutches are all wear parts that can be easily replaced and can be used as bargaining tools to reduce price. I am stuck with the classic car perspective on these babies - a solid car with good running gear and potential would do it for me, if I liked the car - getting a solid body with a good interior, engine is not worn out, electrical gear works, no signs of abuse - if all the other items you mentioned are good to - hell I want this car.

Let's see some wheels!
I have been putting off buying some wheels as a matter of financial priority. Getting anything up here was going to be $1K. I recently lucked out - when visiting an old family friend who was parting out a 71 I virtually tripped over these wheels in the yard (well hidden in the grass). They are Appliance wheels, mid 70s vintage. A fair amount of time was put into cleaning and repainting, but I think they are worth the time and $100 cost to buy.:classic: I am going to mount them this week - waiting on lugs (Massey's) I painted the centers black as well after I took these pics. Anyone else got these or similar? Pics show stages of repair - the fine/finish is not posted.

Newfoundland (Canada) is a one plate province as well - when I got my car in California it had two. I prefer the one plate look.

Advice on potential 280z purchase
I just mean if it's been treated harshly it is more likely to have issues, although these cars are built to rev high - I don't think drifting was considered in the design. Poor use of a nice car.

Advice on potential 280z purchase
Parts are tricky for me because I live in eastern Canada where there hasn't been a Z for many (many) moons. You on the otherhand are in the middle of Z mecca - lots of scrapyards with cars that are not rusted out, Motorsport is down that way and many drivable Zs on the raod so lots of enthusiasts to speak to or even help you out. I think you're safe, but you know what you're comfortable with. My biggest concern would be the talk of drifting maybe just talk - a good look and a drive will sort that out. He says 2600 offer 2k, Worst case scenrio - sell it again. These cars are valuable in parts as well.

I have a sanyco unit that I got a couple of years ago - no L or R - it looks as if it is suitable for either side.

Advice on potential 280z purchase
Well your eyes will tell alot, up on a ramp and have a look underneath check: Internet Z Car Club, it offers tips for older Zs that identifiy trouble spots - if they look ok your laughing. A compression test and a drive will help as well. I hope you are not expecting a maintenance free ride - they are older cars and will require some attention. You stated you're a tinkerer.... Good luck

If I was down that way I'ld definately take a look - milage? These cars handle alot of miles. You can run a check for accident history - check ebay - the system is commonly advertised there. Good luck

Look like money to me - lots of money.

Which Spring/Strut setup?
The bigger tires help to preserve the ride - I think if the wheels were much bigger the handling would be even better but the ride would be hard on the old spine.

How Much Should I be Spending on a Paint Job for 240z
I checked with a local shop: total strip, remove/reinstall all parts, inside and outside to look brand new $10000 (not doing that), completely strip exterior $5000 (not doing that either) - I decided she's not that hard looking. I like the car but reality has to be part of the equation, there's alot of stuff you can do with 5k. What is the car worth when it is finished? Does it matter? No doubt a personal issue - you know what your ok with. Good luck.

Thanks Randy They have an online shop (ebay) with over 1000 items, a very large variety of caps, lugs and other assorted gear. Too much to take in in one look - shop personnel (Bob) was extremely helpful. Great tip!! The ebay shop is "massey1946"
