At a chain called "Princess Auto", that sells low cost Chinese (mostly) manufactured goods - I found 6" X 9" cases as Tomohawk is making and 240zgraham73 shows, but felt covered, prewired c/w rear connectors, glued and batten stuffed for $8 cdn. I installed a set of Pioneer demos $20 in them and hooked up to a middle of the road Sony radio (c/w input for Ipod) - grand total $140 cdn. Very pleased. I think without cutting up your Z these boxes work great even if they look a little dated. Their low cost makes them look better to me.

My battery tray and adjacent sheet metal looked very similar (no holes ) - I gave the old clean up (wire brush and removed any loose rust) and a coat of POR 15. Worked perfect. Good luck.

  4. One other thing - Mine didn't sit right until I had driven her for a couple of days - she was high in the rear.

That's a steal - can't have too many! Especially at that price.
  6. I think it's strange that a car (350z) seeking an advantage in the north american market place has so little headroom. I'm 6'2" and it was a waste of time for me to even bother. The early Zs were/are perfect in that respect (and many others). As to the looks - I think it looks like a Mitubishi. Rather the Solstice for looks - don't know about headroom. .02

  8. Hey Deadflo Sorry to hear you have to disassemble - bit of a pain:disappoin . My problem was all around like your front end and new Eibach springs solved it very nicely. I just added a few shots to my photo gallery that show the current set up.

Wax first - lawn later. The Maguires carnuba wax worked really well on 30 yr old paint. It is very impressive.

I picked up a couple of Maguires products today for a try, they are a three part system (as stated on the container), one to remove damaged paint, one polish to enrich the finish and finally the wax (carnuba). I skipped the first product as I have already done a fine compound (which brought a whole new life to my paint - very impressive) and proceeded to step two - to deepen and enrich, it works, I was impressed again - not bowled over, but happy - it actually did clean the surface up and deepened the colour noticably. Tomorrow (after I lime my lawn) I will try the wax (as recommended by a fellow member of this site) and report on the results. Fingers crossed.
  16. With the milage these things get and the high octane fuel that must be an expensive fill up? Mine runs great on the cheap stuff - that "cheap" is a relative term of course. I'ld say our cheap price is higher than your good stuff at $1.19 9/10 a litre.
  17. Ya, I'm surprised with the feedback on that, I read a thread with some info from Carl and it seemed to indicate a performance tradeoff for fuel economy by doing the 5 spd upgrade. I don't know the actual numbers though.
  18. Hey Darrel The one horse power rig is cheaper to operate but has terrible exhuast in the cockpit problems!
  19. Gord I think my worst offence in that relm is starting warmup. Being a thirty year old car I usually give it some time befor it even moves - probably three or four minutes. I work on a ship so I don't do the daily commute, but I can certainly see that it is a problem for the daily driver.
  20. The inefficient right foot - a Z related disorder. :nervous:
  21. I'ld say if the compression rod is controlling how far forward your wheel is - if that is installed properly there's some other serious problem!
  22. Just made a post in another thread about fuel economy and didn't want to highjack it, so I thought it was a valid discussion to ask what others may be doing or thinking (Z wise) of to overcome the gas price issue. I can't stop driving my Z so I'm looking at controling the cost of using it. To date I have started using fourth gear , but seriously - I bought an 83 5 spd tranny last year which I am thinking I'll install on my next hitch off the ship. Has anyone got anything else?
  23. This is an interesting thread for the prevailing fuel costs, here in Canada I'm paying $1.19 a litre/that's getting up around $5 a gallon (imperial). To put it in context - I just filled up last night and it cost $57. That hurt! But what hurts most is I figure I'm only getting about 16-18 mpg combined. Four speed, 77 with emission gear and maybe a heavyer than average foot.

Got any suggestions for thirty year old paint?
  25. That's a hard lesson.
