Should I Get a 280z?
I had good success with my 280, but you will need to be a little handy with a wrench from time to time. Fuel injection is generally very reliable, but some parts are hard to find and wiring that is thirty three years old is subject to issues. Good luck.

Definately a couple of threads on this issue. Might be differing points of view on what is top an what is bottom though.
- I Just got ANOTHER 240Z, she's gonna kill me!!

Collectors Alert - could be worth checking out
I wrote him a note requesting additional pictures - taken with good light. He claims that he has kept the car stowed inside for many years and is concerned that it could attract undesirable attention if taken outside for photos.... who knows. It doesn't really matter since I found out the price anyway - too rich for me.

What to expect for under $3000. . . in Georgia
They are out there for less than 3K - gotto be patient and look. You will still have to spend some money to get her sweetened up but there are some real good buys out there, esp in the 280 vintage.

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.
Go rust free - there is no doubt that you will be better off in every sense.

Hagerty's pick for under $5000
Interesting and acurate. The 280 is a bargain car - I think people are going to figure that out and they will become harder to find <5K.

New Z in the yard
Thanks for the positive words guys. I know you would all enjoy sitting behind the wheel of this car - it is a beast but fairly comfortable at the same time - weird. That is a fact - the engines note is soooo V8 and the power matches the sound. I love the sound of my 280 and 240 as well, but this is something different entirely. Here's a good one - the car sat in a garage since 02 (eight years). I bought from a guy that was on his way to Africa yesterday so I had to get it befor he left. I can't get it into a garage till Monday - So the first day is has been in my possesion it will be buried under two feet of snow. Blizzard here today . S--t happens.

New Z in the yard
Well it's not a classic Z in the sense we speak of here, but it is certainly a Z. Stowed in a garage since 2002 and for this part of the planet, it is in very nice condition. Goes like stink (TT). Also found a turbo L6 for my 73. More on that later.

My trip across Canada in a 240z.
Tom Don't want to bore everyone with the details of my trip, but I did a similar one in 1977 with a 71 240. I had much better luck, but many similar experiences. The switchbacks will always stay in my mind - seeing those bloody huge logging trucks managing the corners... scary. Biggest problems I encountered was overheating as I went up the west side of the mountains and later doing the Alberta 120 mile an hour test - held it a bit too long and the tranny overheated and locked - scary as well. I went from Victoria (actually Esquimalt) to St. John's Nfld, and I was too young to really get the best of it. I would like to do it again and take my time - might yet - who knows. Anyway it's a great yarn. Rick

Engine rebuild kit
Well - I've never rebuilt an engine, I generaly look for cars in better condition (Typically new). In this case I got it wrong, so I am stuck with spending the additional funds to get her where she should be. If I take it to the local shop and simply hand it over to them they will rebuild it with the parts they procure at cost plus - I have doubts about that as well - more money can be made from a less expensive part. If you would offer recommendations I would appreciate the guidance. I am going to remove the engine when I get home (after I paint the hall).

Engine rebuild kit
Looking for a kit to do the engine in the 73. I am thinking of getting a cam kit from MS. Already have a gasket kit, header, exhaust and rebuilt SUs. Not a cheap process. Anyway I found a spot called "rpm rons" that seems to have everything a fella could want. Sells a complete kit including timing kit and cam for about $650 or a lesser kit with out those goodies for about $400. Anybody here used that supplier? If so, how was your experience with them? Also, is there a better place to get a kit?

Whats your Z plan for 2010?
For the 77 I have to get a temp switch to get her back in operation and the 73 is getting an engine overhaul this spring (maybe a cam kit as well). Both will get new seals (already bought sitting in boxes, in the shed). I have other thoughts but talking takes the place of doing - so I will stop there.
